Peter Hudler FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
WASHINGTON- In an "off-the-record" conversation with reporters, President Barack Obama unveiled a plan to distribute traffic cameras in moderately populated residential and commercial areas in order to 'monitor' the people who live and work there.
The conversation was leaked to the media this afternoon. "People drive fast, people drive poorly, and people die," the President said in the discussion. "We now have cameras at traffic lights to prevent this and catch those who break the law. But we could do so much more.
"Think about the possibilities if we expand the traffic cameras. At every light, we could monitor bad drivers and at every light we can lower crime. The benefits are large."
The President then paused. "But even those possibilities are short-sighted. If we are able to improve the technology behind these surveillance devices, we can observe anyone. Anyone who breaks the law and everyone on the street can be viewed. The drop in crime will be astounding."

Please tell me this is satire.
let’s s start with black neighhoods, shall we? No loss of privacy there?
or is the messiah proposing to focus on right wing extremist suburbanites with their ACORN-marked GPS homes
New Jersey had cameras on the Turnpike until they proved that African-Americans were disproportionally “bad drivers”. The cameras came down and the study buried.
Yes sureee that’s what we need Big Brother ... more surveillance of innocent people. Wouldn’t want the peasants to get testy with what is being planned for them
Obama and his administration are marxist ideologs who are only true to that ideology which has them drunk on what they perceive as their path to more and more power, and who twist their interpretation of everything else to that end.

I think that it is but it’s hard to tell.
Zero wants control over the masses and this is part of the technology to do it.
Paging Mr. Orwell.
Since most street criminals are would-be democrat voters, any effort to punish that constituency would be curtailed. Instead, the cameras would be used to enforce civil penalties (fines) against normal, honest citizens who present no danger, but who can finance government spending (on favored democrat constituencies).
Fortunately, my glorious state of Texas has not only told the feds to back the fu*k off, but has recently outlawed traffic cameras.
The Onion is going to go out of business because what was once satire is now reality.
Surely this is a joke
GO where the criminals are ... But I bet that isn’t what he means. How about we put cameras on the drug dealer corners?
Yeah, but it’s plausible.

well under keywords it does say satire
Next, EVERY government employee needs to have a drug and alcohol urine test.
Next, EVERY government employee needs to have a full criminal and credit background check.
SCREW THIS OUT OF CONTROL GOVERNMENT!!! BRING THE FIGHT!!! YOUR"E GONNA LOSE!!!
What’s the problem? If you have nothing to hide, and are not doing anything illegal, you should welcome this.
If you don’t approve of this, you are quite possibly an anarchist. Us conservatives simply love an overreaching law enforcement machine. Don’t agree?... go to the DU.
/end sarcasm

Remember, NEVER drive your car near the cameras when you do this. Too many cameras watching the cameras.

Spring - Turkey Season
Summer - Camera Season
Hey, I can keep busy all year long now! Thanks Big O!
I bet the Cameras are made by a Business with its Headquarters in Chicago ? Another HUGE Govt. contract ?
Sorry BHOle.....state rights 10th Amendment says this ain’t gonna happen.
as a NRA member might BRAG “ Can pick that Comera off that Pole at 200 yds” .....
Yes, but my post 23 isn’t. ;)
Someone a while back posted a link to a site that shows how the Brits deal with traffic cameras. It had many pics of tires thrown around the top and lit off with gasoline. lol
I believe they use diesel. And yes, you can find lots of them on youtube.
I believe they lose over 400 cameras a year.
Oooh. I like that solution, send one over immediately.
As is the case with all good satire. :)
Late 2001 through 2004, such sentiments would not have been far off the mark (with but a twist - for TEH TERRISTS!!1). Even last year, I am sure many bots would be trumpeting this sort of thing if it McRino v 1.911 pushing it.
I am glad the GOP is regaining its sanity and is again trying to be a party warm to individual liberty and small government.
1984
Can this be confirmed by a reputable source?
I realize this is a baseless, stupid story trying to be funny...
But if you want to eliminate half the crime in this country, you only need one camera, aimed at the desk in the Oval Office.
>>Oooh. I like that solution, send one over immediately.<<
OK, but the gun’s gonna cost extra.
Orwell was prophetic...who knew?
Satire indeed. But the inspiration for this piece is deadly serious and well worth reading.

Personally, I have no problem with the proliferation of security cameras in public areas, though I prefer to see them owned and operated by private parties (as most of them are — when crimes are caught on camera, it’s nearly always a camera operated by a private business). But per the WT article, the arguments against traffic cameras used as automated ticket-issuing systems is more powerful and well-researched than I would have imagined. Traffic cameras may a good idea in some areas for the purpose of providing evidence to convict people who cause major property damage, serious injury, and death via their criminal driving acts, and may also be useful in identifying and locating cars used in abductions or other escapes from crime scenes. But not for issuing tickets in situations where there has been no harm.
Rand as well!
>>Orwell was prophetic...who knew?<<
Speaking of Orwell, Back in the day I thought the idea of a television watching YOU was absurd. I knew enough about the data transmission nightmare this would produce to KNOW it would not be technically feasable.
My how technology surprises us. :)
Or Barry is getting worried that the masses are growing aware of his power grabbing thus, is resorting to the use of technology to domestically watch his arse from the masses.
That’s cute, but only temporary. I like this stuff: http://www.speedcam.co.uk/gatso2a.htm
I don’t really need that. LOL
There’s yer sign!
That is the stuff I was talking about. You gotta be pretty serious to paintball ‘em, even more serious to take ‘em out completely.
On a side note, I can get the traffic light cameras to flash me every time: If the light is already red, I simply approach at a relatively high rate of speed and slam on the brakes at the last second, being careful to 1) not bark my tires and 2) stop before the stop line.
For some reason, it’s kinda fun, and I hope I am doing my small part to force the cops to waste time physically analyzing yet one more picture to determine if a ticket is warranted.
You disgust me!
No, not really. ;)
Coming to our neighborhoods if we do nothing ...
As always it catches the law abiding in some minor questionable circumstance ......
the criminals that do harm, work under cover of darkness, or by painting the cameras ...
I dislike traffic cameras intensely.
Google didn’t bring up a similar article from another source; it had better be satire.
