HEADS UP ON THE TEA PARTY MOVEMENT

To start off, this shouid be in the news/activism section, but because it links to a blog the autopilot forced me to post here.

In addition to the ill advised meeting with Obama it appears that the national leaders of the tea party effort are pushing for a constitutional convention. There can be no form of national suicide more painful than this!

I do not want to be associated with any effort to destroy The Constitution. I can't believe that most of the participants in the effort have been aware of this.

This is no time to lay The Constitution, naked and defenseless, on the table, to be picked apart by every leftwing nutjob who comes along.

The "tea party effort" is a purely grassroots thing. I dare say anyone deemed a "national leader" thereof by definition isn't.

Just got this from mark meckler: Please note that this invitation was from Mike Leahy who had to be removed from the leadership team of the Tea Party Patriots for making unilateral decisions like this that do not represent the grassroots of this movement. He has now formed an organization and appointed himself the leader, and says he speaks for you. I would greatly appreciate it if you could write a letter expressing your frustration that he pretends to speak for you and the rest of the national tea party movement. We're doing our best to keep him from doing destructive things, but he continues to act in ways that have nothing to do with the feelings and ideas of those he claims to represent. Additionally, please let all the members of the United American Tea Party in St. Augustine know that the Tea Party Patriots have nothing to do with the madness coming from Michael Leahy. There seems to be a very common misconception about what a constitutional convention is and what it can and cannot do.

In a convention, the constitution is most certainly not laid bare for anyone to change on a whim. The convention can only propose amendments, which then must be ratified by 3/4s of the states, just like any other amendment.

The purpose of a convention is to circumvent the congress, if it fails to act on something the people or the states feel should be addressed.... such as term limits. You know darn well the congresscritters will NEVER institute term limits on themselves. The only way that is ever going to happen is through a convention.

unfortunately a convention will be bullied and manhandled by the left and if you cant see that, you haven’t been paying attention to the 2008 elections.

to say that you would be opening a can of worms is mild in comparison to what ye will reap by sowing a CC.

Having spent 20 years testifying to committees of the state legislatures on behalf of the Balanced Budget Amendment to the US Constitution, I can recognize this rant as being from a right-wing nutjob. Thoughts like this begin with the notion that the original Convention was a runaway and that therefore any new Convention would be a runaway.

Both parts of that equation are false, as can be easily demonstrated if anyone wishes to have a serious conversation on the subject.

Plus there is the obvious point that nothing produced by a Convention has any force or meaning unless ratified by thre-forths of the states. If the ranter thinks that three-fourths of the states will go along with leftwing nutjob ideas, then the nation is already lost and cannot be saved by any means,

what we need for it is for it to be followed by the criminals that call themselves lawmakers.

How is that a last minute reprieve? That's how it was designed to work.

And, as Congressman Billybob just posted, if 3/4's of the states would ratify carp posited by left wing nutters, we are already lost. In fact, if that were the case, the Congress would already be pushing out such amendments on its own.

My intent was simply to put in a "heads up" on the activities of Mr. Leahy. I then learned that he had been removed, and had started his own thing, so I passed that on.

Mr. Leahy cannot be allowed to appear as the leader of the movement, he will drive off far more people than he will bring in.

Everyone needs to be made aware that Mr. Leahy DOES NOT represent the vast majority on this issue.

I have NO official position, I'm just involved as a citizen foot soldier.

Actually, we need widespread impeachments of judges, legislators, and those in the executive branch who do not respect the Constitution. States asserting their sovreignty is another first step. Then in 2010 vote out all those who ignore the Constitution. Then impeach Obama with the new Congress. Then start rescinding all these communist laws that they will have enacted. Ambitious, yes, as ambitious as the opposition’s plan.

The heck with “tea parties”! I am still waiting for a call to “Civil Disobedience”. Every opponent of the socialist takeover of our country needs to adjust their withholdings to give the bare minimum tax to the government starting immediately. I’ve already done mine(several years ago). Cutting off the pipeline will get the Nazis’ attention faster than brewing tea.

I spend a lot of time visiting places in Latin America with my wife, who works down there.

It is fascinating to me, when seeing this call for a constitutional convention, to remember that virtually every leftist leader in Latin America, including Chavez, Correa, Ortega, Morales...the list grows, has as one of his first tasks to REWRITE THEIR CONSTITUTION.

IMO: We need to be writing letters to local papers, responding on blogs, contacting other local news media, and ensure that they know that “national tea party leaders” do not represent us in any way.

What do you think?

Should we wait until the damage is done?

Am I over reacting?

The movement is a great idea, we just need to keep it on track. A healthy dose of skepticism never hurts.

Minimizing your tax load, or even not paying at all, is NOT going to hurt them, but standing out in open defiance will, even if it doesn't influence the administration, spread the word, and wake people up.

It is just a few "national leaders". They have been removed. The movement is still intact, so don't go jumping to conclusions.

Get involved, do your own digging and watching.

We need some sort of organizing and coordinating body, we just need to make sure we maintain control, and that the "leaders" stay on the same page with us.

changing it will not get the turds in congress, the white house and the judiciary from obeying it any more than they obey the original one.

Make them obey the law NOW or else.

No kidding!!!

They are not “national leaders” of the tea party movement.

How do we stop these infiltrators who are calling themselves “national leaders of the tea party” and trying to take over the movement?

They have no say in this.

They need to form their own movement and call it something else.

They are piggybacking on us.
