Michael Steele Should Not Have Apologized [Don't Worry, the mods won't - ZOT!]
Crimson Politics ^ | 3/28/09 | Brian Kane

Posted on 03/28/2009 7:18:23 PM PDT by Crimson Politics

Early this month, Michael Steele said that Rush Limbaugh was "an entertainer" and that his comments were usually "incendiary" and "ugly" on the Hughley Show. As a Republican politician is expected to, he must convince people and compromise on ideas when necessary. Michael Steele was right to emphasize that he is the Republican Party leader not Rush Limbaugh. Later however, he apologized to Rush Limbaugh about those comments, confirming Hughley's fear that Rush Limbaugh was the "De facto leader" of the Republicans.

I don't believe that Steele should have apologized, Rush is not the leader of this party, he's just one voice out of many.

I agree with the author on this. I think we need to stop letting Rush be our straw man. If you don't agree, obviously, you aren't thinking about winning elections or earning the votes of average citizens, you're thinking about how much you love Rush's opinions.

Michael Steele is the leader of the party, but he apologized for the disparaging remarks he made about Rush, and he should have.

When almost no one else will stand up and speak about limited government, what choice is there. Hardly anyone in Washington as the first clue and only a small handful of governors do.

Sorry, but he is the leader of conservatism today and may be the best representative we have had since 1988. He is not the leader of the GOP nor does he claim to be. The GOP is lost in the wilderness, and only if some decent leadership appears will it matter who leads the GOP.

Apparently you don’t understand that voters won’t vote for Republicans who act like Democrat wannabes—that includes those who are soft and squishy and try to be sooo nice to Democrats. Rush tells it like it is.

Michael Steele did not have to apologize at all. Rush being the provocateur that he is, attacked him and criticized him as well. This was disrespectful of Rush. I think Rush should have apologized to Michael Steele. The reality is Rush Limbaugh has sacrificed the party for his own benefit.

What a load!

I think we've come to a point where we think we know more about politics than our own politicians.

Hell, yeah!

No one is acting like Democrat wanna-bes... What are you talking about? There’s only like 3-4 Republicans who have acted that way. And if they had constituents that wanted them to act that way, then that’s their job.

Politicians act the way their constituents want them to.

If there are a lot of Republican politicians acting too much like Democrats, that means Democratic ideologies are spreading into Republican territory as PROVEN by this last election, and it shows that in order for Republicans to win elections they NEED to act like Democrats.

The people dictate the Republican party, not Rush Limbaugh or certain ideas. You have to understand that politics is a game, and you need to let your politicians play that game or we all lose.

I don't believe that Steele should have apologized,

Michael Steele should not have apologized, he should have resigned and gone over to the Democrats whose bidding he does. He should make it official. We don't need more liberal douche bag lite democrats in the Republican party. If it is EVER to beat the Democrats it will not do it by letting the Democrats manipulate the strings of the republican "leaders" (to use the word "leaders" advisedly). An example of what we don't need is McCain's moron daughter excreting out of her mouth about Coulter who has more intelligence in one of her bleached hairs that McCain's daughter has in her whole 220 pounds.

Were you the author of the article?

You have been here such a long time—a little over two months.

And you have already said, that if one does not agree with the author, well, then, you aren’t thinking about winning elections.

Rush is no one’s straw man. And if the GOP really wanted to win elections in 2006 and 2008, it would have listened to Rush. And we certainly would never have had Juan McLoser as a candidate if we really wanted to win the White House—MCLooney has been a grenade thrower at the GOP for the last eight years.

Rush had the guts to talk back to President Obama when Obama took on a private citizen and tried to tell Republicans not to listen to his show. I guess you have faced down a President who tried to take away your livelihood.

Our wonderful GOP leaders were speechleess and spineless as usual, but not Rush.

So take your Rush bashing elsewhere—it doesn’t sell here.

The GOP is flirting with going the way of the Whigs in one or two more election cycles. Conservatives have had it with being the red-headed step children of the GOP.

We helped the GOP win all three branches of the White House, and then we and our principles were kicked to the curb.

And for all of their hot air about loving America, the GOP, through their ineptitude, stupidity and spinelessness gave us Obama and a Democrat controlled Congress.

And the last line of the article was among the stupidest things I have ever read.

Your ridiculous assertion that we either love Rush’s opinions or we want the average citzens’s votes is a real straw man argument.

You need to understand that most people would not agree with you. I’m not saying most republicans or most democrats. Most average people will simply not agree. Most average people think the worst things about Ann Coulter, and now because of media focus they think the most horrible things about Rush Limbaugh.

As an intelligent politician, one should distance him/herself from Ann Coulter and Rush Limbaugh. Even if it means insulting them, that’s fine, whatever it takes to win. In the end, they’ll both have same ideas, so it’s a victory for Republicans.

You need to think differently. You need to think about what you would do as a politician to win. Participating in partisan politics leads to defeat. Obama did his best to keep his distance from any figure on the left. Obama kept himself away from calling the opponent names etc. In the end it helped him. He used surrogates a lot more to attack his opponent.

“liberal lite Democrats” are not the problem. In fact, I have barely seen any. Your standard of “liberal” and “conservative” is so strict that whenever a Republican party even considers compromising on an issue, he is automatically an outcast. This only leads to defeat.

He reaches out because he's a 'rat at heart. He is determined to destroy conservatism by purging all but liberals like himself from the GOP. He needs to go.

If we keep the idiot, expect more candidates like McLame.

I`m sick and tired of the Republicratic party knuckling under to the rats and compromising their principles! If its as simple as being liberal lite then why not simply go all the way?Because it`s the principles, stupid! If you believe that there is no right or wrong and principles don`t matter then maybe you`re on the wrong forum?Thats the kind of thinking that took the party of J.F.K. to the party of Barky the ass-clown wonder mutt. Why don`t you consider posting on DUmmy underground because you sure sound like a troll.

No..
You can disagree with the author, but we have been throwing everyone including McCain under the bus as “weak”, “not good enough” and putting blame on our leaders when there were so many other factors to put blame on.

Rush is a straw man. Maybe you should tune into Fox News, CNN, or any news media. It’s always Democrats attacking Rush, and it’s helping them. Rush is not doing a good job of defending himself. He’s actually making it worse, by looking more aggressive and saying more outrageous things than ever, he makes people confirm what these Democrats were saying about him.

Perhaps, if you hadn’t listened to Rush so much you wouldn’t be whining about George Bush getting elected as you are now.

GOP did not cause Obama’s win. Obama caused Obama’s win. Your analysis is so naive it’s ridiculous. The economy caused Obama’s win. The incendiary attacks by McCain on Obama’s associations caused Obama’s win. Sarah Palin’s interviews which became a laughing stock in the news media caused Obama’s win. You have to face the facts. You can’t just blame Republicans as being weak... That’s such a bad excuse and has no merit.

If you actually for once, talked to a person who voted for Obama, as to why they didn’t want to vote for McCain, you’d figure out the facts. Not all of them are rabid liberals. Some of them are sensible people who voted for Obama because of an arsenal of reasons which were used by the Democratic campaign. The Republicans could not defend themselves because their reasons were valid, not because they couldn’t defend themselves.

No one is “determined to destroy conservatism” where do you get this ridiculous line of thought? If he was determined as such why would he run for Republican chairman? If he was so determined to attack conservatism ? Why is he spending all his time defending it? Why did people vote for him? You’re being ridiculous.

I’m telling you, if there was any other candidate instead of McCain, he would have probably had same results or similar results.

“This should BE the motto of this site.”

When you run this site, you choose the motto.

Here is the voice of the owner:

As a conservative site, Free Republic is pro-God, pro-life, pro-family, pro-Constitution, pro-Bill of Rights, pro-gun, pro-limited government, pro-private property rights, pro-limited taxes, pro-capitalism, pro-national defense, pro-freedom, and-pro America. We oppose all forms of liberalism, socialism, fascism, pacifism, totalitarianism, anarchism, government enforced atheism, abortionism, feminism, homosexualism, racism, wacko environmentalism, judicial activism, etc. We also oppose the United Nations or any other world government body that may attempt to impose its will or rule over our sovereign nation and sovereign people. We believe in defending our borders, our constitution and our national sovereignty.

Your analysis holds no water.

McCain was a weak candidate. He is a liberal, and libs vote for the real thing, not a poser. He knew full well what a danger Obama was, but he couldn’t even muster the gumption to criticize him when it counted.

Plus he was an old man and that doesn’t sell in Presidential politics. Shallow reason, but absolutely true.
This was Bob Dole 1996 redux. It failed then and it failed again. Imagine that?

Funny how Bobby Jindal was saying the same things Rush said two months ago, this week, to rave reviews. Guess Rush must be stupid.

Or prescient.

Rush is not making it worse. Mush headed thinkers like McConnell and Steele are doing that all by themselves.

Rush is leading. His goal is not to save the GOP. It is to save America. And the GOP better get on board, or we will hook up to a political organization that will fight these Communist SOBs in the Democrat Party that are destroying this country.

And Obama did NOT cause Obama to win. The media, and John McStupid’s idiotic stunts did that FOR Obama.

And Republicans are weak. They are only now standing up for conservative principles because of Rush speaking out and a very angry group of Conservatives that have closed their wallets to the RNC.

As far as talking to people who voted for Obama,I have and they have no reasons. They can’t name anything that Obama ever accomplished, nor can they get past the allure that “hope and change” trumps “Bush is bad”. And a weak GOP allowed themselves to be branded as bad by the incessant Dem bashing and the GOP not answering in kind. There is a lot of buyer’s remorse among Obama voters now, but it’s a little late for that.

Quite frankly, it is you who are naive, and your analysis shows it. Politics ain’t beanbag, kid.

And right now, we have a country to save. I could care less about the GOP.
