On Glenn Beck’s radio show last week, I quipped, in response to our wayward federal government, “I may run for president of Texas.”

That need may be a reality sooner than we think. If not I, someone someday may again be running for president of the Lone Star State, if the state of the union continues to turn into the enemy of the state.

From the East Coast to the “Left Coast,” America seems to be moving farther and farther from its Founders’ vision and government.

George Washington advised, “The great rule of conduct for us, in regard to foreign nations, is, in extending our commercial relations, to have with them as little political connection as possible.” Yet the Obama administration just pledged $900 million in U.S. taxpayer-funded aid to Hamas-controlled Gaza and Mahmoud Abbas’ Palestinian Authority.

Thomas Jefferson counseled us, “We must not let our rulers load us with perpetual debt.” Yet the feds have skyrocketed our national debt by trillions of dollars, and they plan much more fiscal expansion, with few expectations of resistance. George Washington admonished, “To contract new debts is not the way to pay for old ones.” But we keep borrowing and bailing out, and we watch the stock market plunge further every time we do.

Patrick Henry taught, “(Our Constitution) is an instrument for the people to restrain the government.” Yet our Congress and president stampede that founding document, overlook its explicitness and manipulate its words to abandon a balance of power and accommodate their own desires, partisan politics and runaway spending.

I lost my rear twice in the eighties Texas oil fields and vowwed never to go back. It looks like I might have to break that vow if things get much worse; North Carolina will stand with the communists!

I do think he has valid points.
But I think he is acting out of self promotion and doesnt speak for the State of Tx.

For all his babbling about the constitution he seems to be willing to be the first to turn his back on it to runaway and secede.

Trivial historical fact: Texas Can divide into separate states. This was part of the agreement signed with the independent Texas in 1846. Abolitionists in the North, at the time, prevented this from ever occuring. But the possibility (legally) does exist.
When (if) they do, I’ll move there !

My worst case scenario is that Baraq Hussein will maintain a coalition based on racial politics, wealth transfers, illegals, and voter fraud which allows him to remain in power as long as he desires.

Alaska will undoubtedly secede, but it’s awfully cold and far away.
Texas might be a decent alternative but the proximity to Mexico makes me nervous.

I think he is frustrated, like so many of us. I don’t take this so much as turning his back on the US as him gently reminding Washington that we can and will, if necessary.

You couldn't name them all 'Texas'. Which group of native sons would you first advise they no longer live in Texas, or can claim to be Texans?

Tx is one of the most influential states in the union.
Turning and running from a fight while abandoning or brothers in the rest of the nation at a difficult time is NOT the Tx way.

We dont turn from a fight. Especially a fight to preserve the very foundations of our nation.

Norris whats to run from all that at the drop of a hat and declare himself presidente.

I do not subcribe to his halfbaked editorial ABOUT himself.

I think you are acting slightly foolish here. You have to understand the predicament that is Texas. They have a border crisis which the Federal government ignores. Much to the chagrin of the people. In fact in my opinion one of the few things the Federal government MUST do is defend the people of ALL our states. For us not opening fire on the illegal aliens invading the country is a damn crime, and one the Fed are allowing to perpetuate.

The lovely people of Texas are a free spirited, independent bunch. Remember a principle of Conservatism is “Personal Responsibility” I think to this point Texas does many things correctly. Why you think Chuck would act to self promote is beyond me, I mean have you asked yourself this question? “Why would a wealthy conservative need to self promote, what would be in it for him?” I can’t figure it out, maybe you are wiser than I. Or maybe you just think worse of good people.

Your last point... Babbling?
What else can a State do? Maybe if we use harsh words and stern looks the Federal government will listen? The fact is this: The Federal government has put us on a crash course for some hard choices in the very near future. What does it mean to be a Free independent people? What does it mean to be a Free and independent state in the union? I thought the constitution put the power into the states hands, and only gave specific powers to the Federal government... is this what you think is happening now? We are going to have some very hard choices to make, but a state that is willing to keep all options on the table in order to defend the constitution is NOT running away, it’s running TOWARDS. Texas in my opinion is running towards the only document that separates us from the scourge of other failed countries, and to the document that we all should be intimate with, (other than the good book) our constitution is what grants “We the People” the inalienable rights that we as conservatives should demand, and be willing to die for.

Whether or not you believe things can ever get to the boiling point is irrelevant, we all should be hoping for the best, but hopefully we all prepare for the worst.

I guess I don’t have a reason to believe that Chuck isn’t a stand-up guy. Obviously you believe that he is less than he seems. Please share if you have data that points him as being a self-serving, blowhard.

Otherwise... the interviews I’ve seen point him to being a true conservative.

Secession is not the answer. Our Founding Fathers understood the dangers of America being composed of several independent states.

We are the United States of America. We will stand or fall together.

Talk of secession or separation is defeatist talk. It is alarmist and excessive.

I am proud of my nation. I am proud of our heritage and our history. America is the greatest force for good in history. We have faced tough times before, but we have never quit. We are Americans. We don't quit, we fight for what we believe in.

I don't want President Obama's vision for America, but also I don't want Chuck Norris's vision.

It may be trite, but "Quitters never win and winners never quit." Why should we who believe in the Constitution be the ones who say, "Oh well, It's been a great run, but its over now. The Leftist win and I'm going to take my dollies and go home. Why shouldn't it be those who seek to destroy everything for which this nation has stood who quit.

Norris and those who think like him are a bunch of pansies who can't stand the heat.

I keep my ammo in sealed ammo cans with desiccant packs tossed in. I train once a week and shoot competitively at times. I pray daily for Nation and having spent most of my youth in the Boy Scouts... I stay prepared. I love GOD, America, Capitalism and Conservatism.

Have you ever known anyone you liked that is wrong about something?

Its not beyond the realm of everyday occurrence you know.

I find Mr Norris to be incongruent in his editorial about himself.
I find Mr Norris incongruent in espousing how great our constitution is and than turning around and proposing Tx turn its back on it.
