Palin Supports Bill to Combat High Energy Costs
KTVA ^ | 3/10/2009 | Office Of The Governor

March 10, 2009, Juneau, Alaska - Governor Sarah Palin pledged her support today for Senator Bettye Davis' bill to extend Alaska's suspension of the motor fuel tax. Senate Bill 14 extends a portion of the governor's multi-phase statewide energy plan she introduced last year to help Alaskans combat the high cost of energy.

"Alaskans are unique among Americans in the contiguous states in terms of transportation costs," Palin said. "In rural Alaska, particularly, many people are still paying outrageous fuel costs. Heating and fuel bills are double and triple what others pay in the Lower 48. I support any sound measure that relieves the burden Alaskans feel in their pocketbook; in this case, it's continued support for eliminating a tax at the pump."

According to the AAA Daily Fuel Gauge Report, Alaskans pay on average $2.519 per gallon of regular gasoline, which is more than 30 cents higher than California, which has the highest price per gallon in the contiguous states. Even Hawaii, another remote state, pays seven cents per gallon less than Alaska. National comparisons can be viewed at fuelgaugereport.com.

Don’t they get oil money from the state each year?

That’s right, IIRC they get dough from ExxonMobil.

It’s never a bad time to cut taxes though. And Palin’s remark about Government having to make do with less is just magical.

“combat the high cost of energy.”

YES! Now someone is talking sense.
Every single one of us, I don't care what party you are in or how liberal or conservative you are, can relate to the high cost of our monthly gas and electric bill. We ALL would like to reduce that bill, which is why we insulate, get new windows, go with CFL lighting where we are able, and are constantly yelling at the kids for leaving the light on in their room. If we can focus on those real life situations when developing energy policies I could get behind it with enthusiasm. But, when the liberals and even many of our moderate Republicans talk about saving the planet it make my skin crawl.
