I'll be happy to link to the local story of a girl who contracted AIDS through supposedly clean equipment once I get to work, provided the Chronicle hasn't cleaned out their archives.
And what is silly is trusting your equipment. I was an industrial printer for 2 years. I never trusted that printer to work right. Currently, I'm a security guard. I never trust any of my equipment now to work right.

Actually, they do depend on critical equipment. Thanks for demeaning entire lines of work. If you want a different parallel, I like guns. A lot. I never have confidence in them, though.

You are welcome, but I wasn’t demeaning lines of work.
I like guns, too. I have had to trust in guns and other assorted life critical equipment.
If ya can’t trust your equipment then either get better equipment of get a new line of work!

It's not the equipment or the line of work. That's just the way I am, and I don't think I'm going to change that view any time soon, regardless of changes in my career. If anything, growing older has taught me just the opposite. I'm sure you have your reasons for your views, I have my reasons for mine. I think this is the part where we agree to disagree.
