A Valentine for My Daughter
original | Feb. 14, 2009 AD | Dawn Elizabeth Slike

Posted on 02/17/2009 3:49:33 AM PST by Dawn Elizabeth Slike

You shared yourself with everyone

For only moments in eternity

You gave so freely and so well

Your love light glistened silently from deep

Behind the shadows

This Valentine's we struggle on

To share our thoughts without you here

To bring our love unto each other,

Trying in vain to darn across the hole you've

Left in the middle of us,

Wide, and dark, and scary-deep

Yet you speak in whispers to us from Heaven

Your perfect love drew you into eternal life

You now live freely, and so painlessly well

Your light shines ever brightly from our

Perceptions of beyond

A purer heart there never was

No greater gift than you to all who knew you

We've been blessed, now saints are blessed

To have yours among their joyful, grateful souls.

"What we see now is like a dim image in a mirror;

then we shall see face-to-face.

What I know now is only partial; then it will be

complete -

- as complete as God's knowledge of me.

Meanwhile these three remain: faith, hope and love;

and the greatest of these is love."

1 Corinthians 13:12-13 , Today's English Version

In memory of my beloved only daughter,

Sherrill Lynn Ashley

One day at a time, one hour at a time, one memory at a time, with Faith and with time, you will find the strength. May God send His angels to comfort you and watch over you during these, the dark hours of sorrow.

My most sincere condolences, blu

Touching.

Sorry to hear about your loss. I don’t know how a parent gets by after losing a child. You are strong and will continue to strengthen. And I hope you find peace in the faith that this is not our home, that we are all on our way home to be together with each other in His kingdom.

What a lovely tribute to your daughter. Thanks for sharing, and take heart - she heard every word.

I heard it said once that, - “as a Christian, the day I die will be the best day I’ve ever lived. But it won’t be the best I will ever live.”

The Heaven John wrote about in the Bible is so full of wonders and mysteries that in our wildest dreams we could not imagine how glorious it is. Certainly Heaven contains many surprises which we will never be able to comprehend in this life.
As a mortal, I can only relate to it in this way. Think back to the one single best day of your whole life. Maybe it was your wedding, the birth of your child, your first trip to Disneyland, the anniversary cruise with your spouse, whatever. Now imagine each day in Heaven being that multiplied 100-fold, and the number of those days will be endless. Is it no wonder that John also wrote about the multitudes he saw worshiping and praising the one who said he was going away to prepare a place for us, and then fulfilled that promise beyond our wildest imagination.

That is what I firmly believe Heaven will be like.
Your Daughter is now experiencing those wonders and is not looking back with sorrow, but instead she is anxious for the day when the rest of her family will join her. May God bless your family and lift you up.

Simply beautiful.

This is our first Valentine’s Day without our daughter, Faith (4/10/2004 - 5/30/2008), and your poem speaks comfort.

Thank you for sharing it, and may God bless you and comfort you.

I am so sorry to hear of your daughters passing. I know full well what you are going through right now and how it will progress for you in the months and years to come. I lost a son in 1984 and it is terrible beyond belief. If you ask our Lord God to help you he will be there at your side. You will feel his presence and with his help you will get through this, I did. God Bless you and your family in this most difficult time. Feel free to ask me anything.
