Congress gave itself a $93,000 raise to "stimulate" the economy(video)

If this doesn't make you want to fly to Washington and slap your legislator, nothing ever will. Congress gives itself a $93,000 raise to stimulate the economy. It must be nice to have that kind of extra petty cash cash laying around. Instead of tightening your belt in this recession, wouldn't you like an extra $90,000? Never mind the record deficits. Never mind that ordinary Americans are struggling to pay their bills. Our Congress thinks it is far more important to be able to dole out perks to itself

To help their constituents? Cool. I’m contacting Corker and asking for $15K to pay off all our bills.

I'll settle for the same $93,000 that they're getting. Spread the wealth, you bunch of thieves.

This needs to be broadcast far and wide.

This is a deal-killer, and displays, even to those impaired by Kool-Aid consumption, the incredible arrogance of Reid, Pelosi, et al.

It's way past time for pitchforks. This is in your face, we could care less about what you think politicians.

They will rue the day.

But why isn’t this getting more press? Do a google search - it doesn’t come up.

All the out of work people should march on DC, and move into the Capitol and White House, just make themselves at home. Let their representatives feed them.

I’d like to see better documentation of this claim, but if its true (and it likely is) then I’ll be calling my reps to DEMAND a petty cash payment of 93,000 dollars.

Congress is my enemy.

This started smelling funny to me.

I started thinking about this and wondered, "Even Pelosi and Reid couldn't be THIS stupid."

So I've started digging:

I'm finding information about a $4,700.00 raise in December of 2008.

I'm looking around on Thomas (thomas.loc.gov) now.

They are giving themselves the money as petty cash. It won’t show up as a raise. The fishy thing is the way they are doing it. I am assuming Bulls and Bears has the correct information.

I agree, this needs to be verified.

I don’t really want to quote “The Intellectual Redneck” as authoritative.

I'm calling [PRELIMINARY] BS on this one as it doesn't make sense for them to give themselves a raise right after they already did so.

Also, when you think about it, the amount is ludicrous.

Okay, here's the link to H.R. 1.

Anybody care to help look? It's a BIG bill...

The video of Fox News’ Bulls and Bears is at the link for the blog. It is not a personal raise, but a raise in stipend money for use through their office. According to the Fox pundits 93,000 triples it from the prior amount.

I agree with them it’s pretty nervy of them to do this after blasting Wall St and the auto execs for their spending.

I am so sick of politicians.

Well after reading it closer, I see it’s not actually a pay raise, it’s an increase to their office’s petty cash account. Whether they spend that money on legitimate office needs or not, who knows. Hopefully the GAO audits that.

This is BS.Just because we elect these Congressional clowns into office does not mean they are authorised to raid the piggy bank whenever they want to.There needs to be a lwa passed that would make a Federal officials pay subject to the vote of the citizenry.

These characters are bankrupting us every which way they can and we can’t do anything about it.

I know several people who say are going to intentionally make minor errors on their income tax this year as an act of civil disobedience. The hope is to tie up the IRS in red tape. Does anybody have an opinion on this strategy?

It costs MONEY to buy Chopin vodka, a few slabs of Wagyu, and a few packs of Davidoff Magnum Supreme Virginia smokes.

Just pray that they don't change their deal with us any further...

I'm just going to guess without checking. They usually do these things one of two ways:

1. Voice vote

2. Automatically goes into effect WITHOUT a vote
