We Got It Right About the Rosenbergs

I was surprised to see a major FoxNews report on the Rosenberg trial the other day. Every once in a while, the treasons committed by notorius leftists such as Alger Hiss and the Rosenbergs are exhumed, and some present-day leftists try to cast doubt on their guilt. One of the witnesses, who himself was a spy for the Soviets, recently recanted his 55 year old testimony against the Rosenbergs; and their sons, who spent their lifetimes arguing the innocence of their parents, have gone in the other direction. We should always remember that all communists, socialists and modern liberals lie whenever it suits them in order to advance their cause of collectivism.

So then why didn’t we fry the Walkers and Jonathan Pollard?
To: PurpleMountains
McCarthy was right.
And we need another McCarthy. But first, we need to revive real patriotism and contempt for the evil that is communism.

I'm not knowledgeable enough about Pollard to say, but I would definitely have hanged Walker. At the time of the Walker case the government's preferred mode of capitol punishment was still the electric chair.
What bothers me about the Rosenbergs is not that they fried but that they were the only ones. I'd prefer that the do it in all cases.

Well, we are talking about Communists here. This is much more than a “witch hunt.” Let’s recall that witches aren’t real. Communists and their threat to freedom are. Kill them all...

It wasn't a witch hunt. McCarthy said there was a list of people who's clearances should be investigated b/c their loyalties weren't clear.
His words were later twisted to say he knew the names of communists and was on a witch hunt. However, most of the original names were on the Reid list, which had previously been addressed to Congress. Some of the people on said list merely left one gov't position and got another
That said every last name McCarthy had turned out to be a communist or fellow traveler holding a government position.
Try reading "Black Listed by History," the other went to great lengths to provide copies of the charts and FBI files... its a lot more accurate than the "McCarthy=Bad" regurgitation..... furthermore the Venona files confirmed that McCarthy was right and so did Russia after the dissolution of the USSR.
Personally, I'm for limited gov't, but we have the FBI for a reason; to protect against domestic threat. And if our do-nothings in Congress actually listenend to them and allowed them to do their job, maybe we would read shocking stories about Hamas operatives that worked at the FBI and CIA BEFORE they did significant damage to the country, or before communists use their position to insure China goes red.
McCarthy had no authority, but to bring information he received to light.... which included people (working in signals intelligence and the Code room at the Pentagon) actively providing info to the reds.
Just because a lie is repeated often by sympathizing-hack "authors" and NEA troops (read public school teachers) doesn't make it true.

He was correct in identifying communists, and his goal was to prevent them from destroying the country.
Here we sit around, afraid to insult anyone by ‘questioning their patriotism’ while they put a communist in the White House.

Oh, that's was all it was? I thought it was a kangaroo court designed to parade regular citizens in front of the country and to destroy their careers because someone was forced to give up names of accused "communists." And the mere accusation got you blacklisted and a lot of non-communists had to live with that label as well.
I hate communism. One of the aspects of communism I hate the most is that competing political philosophy is banned by law and those who don't believe in communism are punished or killed. If you're asking me to support doing something similar here in America, no thanks.

Not all spies and traitors get fried ~ never have. Some who commit particularly egregious crimes, e.g. steal atom bomb secrets, get fried.
Personally I think that the ones who don't get fried should be given up for public torture every third year for at least one day.

As to killing communists, that is what our Constitution calls for (indirectly, via Treason), so I certainly support that.

You are confusing two totally different things. It is one thing for people to be free to believe in whatever ideology they want, and to do so openly. That is the freedom we have here, and the Communist Party existed before, during and after the McCarthy days, without any interference from the government (although I'm sure they were being watched at some point by the FBI). It is quite another thing to be an agent of a hostile foreign power and hide your own belief system in order to achieve positions in government that allow you to advance that foreign power's agenda in direct contrast to your own country's agenda. That is what McCarthy warned against, and those types of people were the ones he sought (and found).
I think you also may be confusing Senator McCarthy with the House Un-American Activities Committee, of which McCarthy had no part. MCarthy sought Soviet moles in the US government, and found them. HUAC went a little further and called out some non-governmental people, such as Hollywood types. As far as I know, though, none of those actors were actually arrested. Their careers were merely hurt because the Hollywood bigshots feared that no American would go to a movie with a known communist in it.
A country has to be able to defend itself from hostile people. Period. That includes spies and saboteurs. To suggest otherwise is asinine. To suggest that the concept of "freedom" prohibits the ability to act in your own defense and self interest is ridiculous.

Read her books and understand that people who defend Joe McCarthy are not crazy. It is the grasp of the extent of leftist activity in the United States that makes people shrill.

But many people were labeled "communists" and ruined. People were encouraged to turn in suspected communists. That's too much collateral damage. And the end result is that the public got so angry about it that now it's almost chic to be a communist. So the witch hunt was a complete failure and ended up having the opposite of the desired effect.

Once again, I think that was HUAC and not McCarthy. Also, I don't think that "the public" got so angry at the communist labels being thrown around, as much as Hollywood types, who were communists, got angry, and set about a propaganda campaign that continues even to this day that depicts the anti-communists as knuckle-dragging, old, white, racists while depicting the accused as innocent, freedom-loving citizens. Women and children hardest hit, you know. Hollywood made communism chic, just as they have made gangsterism, rampant promiscuity, and homosexuality chic.
The fact is that there was, has been and perhaps still is a concerted effort by communists, funded and organized initially by the Soviets, to undermine the American system from within and replace it with the Soviet-style communism. Back in the 50s and 60s, when the Soviets were still a world power and the Cold War was in full swing, such an undermining was life-threatening. Soviet spies, for instance, were responsible for stealing much of the US's nuclear technology. There is no greater direct threat than that.

I don't think it's intellectually honest to cast the two as completely independent entities. Seems more accurate that they enjoyed a symbiotic relationship.

Well, they picked the wrong tactic. Seems like our current government has done a much better job accomplishing that goal using an economic crisis as impetus.
