Computer users in China found themselves unable to log onto the New York Times web site this week. The site has been blocked by the Chinese Communist government for politically unacceptable content.
While we are hesitant to take such action against a publication that has been of inestimable assistance to the Chinese Peoples Republic, we are ashamed to say that the editorial content has become dangerous, said Dung Chiao Mein, Minister of Electronic Communications for the Chinese government.
The dangerous content is purported to be the papers rabid animus against commerce. The Times has become depressingly and appallingly left wing in its antipathy to the market in America, Dung explained. While this is all well and good for stirring up revolutionary turmoil in the United States, we dont need these attitudes spread around in China. The Chinese government is striving to stimulate the commerce and investment that will enable us to dominate global trade. At this point, the Times rants against capitalism are counterproductive in our country.

No big loss, nothing worth reading in the New York Times anyhow.
Pretty amusing...the Times is even too far left-wing for China....I could believe that.
I hope pro-freedom people can find ways around Chicom site blocking.
Is Free Republic blocked?
old story
Might be old, but it’s good :)
LOL!
KellyM37,regale freepers on how good it is
That part is satire. Hard news articles don’t mention what China’s reason was.
I started smirking, then laughed out hard upon discovery of the satire.
Maybe their lies are to much to stomach for even a communist!
And here I thought the part about the False Messiah being the President-elect was the satire (it damn well ought to be... I’m still waiting for the punchline).
Whew, this is like when Stalin got mad at Trotsky. There will be blood. Watch out for the ice pick, NYT.
Something tells me Russia and China do not like Obama.
It’s probably because the NYTimes rediculous praising of Obama.
I’m sure there is Chinese proverb about giving credit to a man who has done absolutely nothing.
Not only that, but Obama makes Putin look like a man among men.
Obama is a man among sheep and the sheep are scared.
It is conceivable, however, that China will soon be more capitalistic and the U.S. more communistic. Who knows, maybe someday we'll have to go over there if we want to start a business or read the truth about Chairman Obama.
Maybe it’s Obama’s lack of a symbol.
Mao had the Little Red Book.
Clinton had his Little Black Book.
Zero, now: can’t use Blue because it’s associated with car values. Yellow belongs to communication interests. White’s associated with the Bible and he can’t go there. He can’t go Green as he’s about to backstab those suckers.
I say he should go with Grey. It defines “not being” and “vagueness” like himself. Not a citizen, not a Senator, not a patriot, not a contributor, not a Christian, not a veteran, not of any race, not of any history, not having any backing from the real citizens of this nation.
And definitely not my President.
Must be part of a new anti-littering law.
Very well put, indeed.
The Chinese are no fools. They know the power of arrogant and willful deceit. The NYT is a disease of the soul, something which ancient Chinese regarded highly. They will not let its influence spread the cancer that has doomed this country to theirs.
There once was a paper named the new york times
A paper quite guilty of those journalistic crimes
All soon knew its word
Was a big stinking turd
Soon the paper went the way of the most famous mimes
As good a definition of NYT editorial policy as any I could point to! As practiced capitalists, the Chinese are well beyond the reasoned expectations of a healthy society and on their way to a healthy economy. The USA on the other hand....continuous education on proper "rabid animus against commerce is well on its way to the trashheap of communist sloth that Mao introduced to the Chinese decades ago.
I censor myself from reading the NYT! No Big Deal! Nothing in it anyway!
I have used FR and Drudge from Shanghai and Zhanjiang, Guangdong Province. Since Shanghai has a lot of foreigners I was not surprised. However, when it worked in Zhanjiang I was. I have spent a month there spread over 2 trips and I never saw a western person other than in the mirror.
One odd thing is that my cell phone does not work in Zhanjiang. It works every were I’ve been except in Zhanjiang. There is a navy base there. I wonder if they block foreign cells there.
Strange. My computer also blocks access to the New York Times.
