Obama Salutes???
Posted on 11/17/2008 2:11:43 PM PST by pfflier
My wife and I were watching C-Span recap of Veteran's day wreath layings and saw an absolute travesty at Chicago.
The chosen one laid a wreath, at a Chicago memorial, with a female veteran who had prosthetic legs. After laying the wreath, she smartly saluted. The chosen on glanced her way then rendered the most half-a$$ed salute I have ever witnessed.

How would he have ever learned a proper salute. I learned it over thirty years ago in the Civil Air Patrol. I was never in the military but I remember to this day how to do it.

Obama doesn't know what a salute is........give his handlers a few weeks to get it right.......
In all fairness, clinton had the lamest salutes ever......

Nice salute butt-wipe. Liberals HATE the flag, and would prefer using a one-finger salute.

Let’s get real here. He is probably (looking at the situation, that looks like a mic in from of him, he is likely at a meeting, and he is giving one of those half-a$$ed salutes, the kind you give your friends or acquaintances.

CIC’s aren’t supposed to salute or return a salute....I believe the salute was a recent addition during W’s first term......At least he served.
Of course, Obama isn’t the CIC yet and has no business saluting anyone....

Another thing very disturbing about Obama’s salute.. It looks like his thumb is almost touching his nose in both pics.. The same lack of disrespect he did with his middle finger. I'm am getting more and more freaked out by this guy.

Not so. A salute is an exchange of courtesies. I'm going to give him one point for trying to return a salute, as protocol requires, and unlike BJ.
Mind you, as far as I'm concerned, he's still way into negative numbers. I also hope by the time he's inaugurated, he's learned how to do it properly. That would be the respectful thing to do.

My understanding of the salute is that it is reserved for those who have been in the military.
Does anyone know chapter and verse on this?

That is not the same event I saw. He was laying a wreath at the base of a monument in Chicago and was escorted by a woman in civilian clothes with prosthetic legs. She also relied heavily on a cane for mobility. It was raining as I recall.
He was reacting to her salute and did the same damn thumbs oben Bennie Hill salute like the one you see in the other pictures on this post.

Military traditions and protocol: ...it is an expression that recognizes each other as a member of the profession of arms; that they have made a personal commitment of self-sacrifice to preserve their way of life. The fact that the junior extends the greeting first is merely a point of etiquette; a salute extended or returned makes the same statement.

We need to settle on standard shorthand terminology for Obama, Biden & Michelle.
I had a Freepversation with a very smart Freeper and he suggested:
Barack Obama = DUH1
Joe Biden = DUH2
Michelle Obama = DUH1st
I like it!! Pass it around.

I also hope by the time he's inaugurated, he's learned how to do it properly. That would be the respectful thing to do. Obama should learn the USAF salute, follow the buttons up your shirt up to the outer edge of the eyebrow (or the right-side bill of the service cap), hand facing inward:

An enlisted woman or man should hold their salute until it's acknowledged by the officer.

Geez Obama, the US Armed Forces do not salute like Benny Hill! :-) Well, two points. Benny Hill's salute is only a little bit sloppy by Brit standards.
Secondly B. Hussein has never been in the armed forces of the United States.
