Obama Confidante Bill Ayers Confirms Role in Obama Circle

As might be expected, Ayers attempted to minimize his connection with Obama despite the extensive record and despite the fact that Obama himself told the media that they were in touch as recently as early 2007.

But the New Yorker notes something the Post glossed over:

Ayers says his contacts with "the Obama circle" continued until "his name became part of the campaign maelstrom."

Now the "maelstrom" really only began a few weeks ago when Vice Presidential candidate Sarah Palin accused Obama of "palling around with terrorists," which indeed was one focus of the interviews today.

So unlike the millions of people that Ayers compared himself to in the interview whom he said would want to get to know Obama better (hey, who can argue with that - we are all wondering who Obama is given his relationship with a former terrorist and lifelong authoritarian and neo-stalinists Bill Ayers and Bernardine Dohrn),

**we know now from both Obama and Ayers that their relationship existed and continued into the campaign period itself.

Nonetheless, the reporters avoided probing Ayers on what his role was with the Obama circle.

I have already reported that it was significant and that in fact Ayers is part of a select group that includes only himself and Bernardine Dohrn inside the inner circle, and that the couple advises Obama and his wife Michelle directly and personally.

To remind readers that reporting included a credible source stating, among other things, that Ayers and Dohrn speak regularly with either Obama or his wife and have been involved in "vetting" campaign advisors and potential appointees and that Ayers and Axelrod spoke regarding efforts to prevent access to the records of work Ayers and Obama did together on the Chicago Annenberg Challenge from 1995 until 2002.

Since neither Ayers nor Dohrn have formal roles in the campaign organization (beneath them no doubt) they can continue to use that as a means to convince people that they are not involved.

Ayers appears to confirm the structure of his relationship to the campaign when he told The New Yorker:

"I felt from the beginning that the Obama campaign had to run the Obama campaign and I have to run my life."

Now why would someone who was NOT very involved with Obama have to make such a decision? Thus it did not surprise me at all as it did The New Yorker that Ayers was "curiously calm and cheerful" about the way he has been treated in the campaign.

Ayers knew where he stood and knows where he stands now. And so now the battle for the soul of the next Presidency moves to another stage.

(The obsequious non-reporting coming from the Post and the New Yorker only serves to remind how far those two pillars of modern American journalism have fallen from the days when they spoke truth to power. The source has stated that Obama and Ayers have a direct personal relationship that extends back to the 1980s and that there are now close ties between both Michelle and Barack Obama and Ayers and his wife, Bernardine Dohrn, also a former leader of the Weather Underground. Global Labor believes the source to be highly credible but has not been able to confirm independently the comments made by the source.

The source has said that either Obama himself or his wife Michelle communicate with Ayers or Dohrn on a regular basis, up to “several times a week,” including discussions about the “vetting” of potential advisors to the campaign as well as potential appointments to staff positions in the new administration should Obama win the presidential race.

The source continues to support the Obama candidacy but has expressed serious concern about the influence of what is known in the campaign as the “Ayers camp” on the candidate.

I am not a conspiracy guy, and I am not a raging lunatic right now running around my house in a fit because of this election. I took it well, and despite frustration see opportunity in this outcome. I wanted to say that before making this statement....

This election is the closest thing we could see to a coup in our country. Between the mysterious funding sources, the inner circle of the candidate, and the 100% lockstep media for the past few years to take down this President, and then simultaneously dismissing the Clintons and taking back the White House.

Obama denied public funding over the summer, and then magically got $150 million in September when most sources would be tapped out in a tight economy. That’s more in one month than Kerry had in his whole campaign and that was a very heated election with high motivation on the left.

Additionally, this guy came to Washington clearly says on record he would not run for president because he was not prepared, and then made an about-face within six months.

Whoever organized this obviously approached him during that time and mapped out his road to be President in 3 years. He could not have realistically thought he could defeat Hillary by staying had left and then beat the GOP as a centrist a few months later as a newbie to national politics. I am sure he would have waited to get some experience before jumping in.

Conspiracy or not, there is no doubt some insidious people have access now to our national strategy.

I have to agree with you. I was never emotionally invested in having McCain as POTUS. A small part of me is actually glad he will not be president. So I know my funk is not because “my guy lost.” McCain was not, strictly speaking, my guy. Sarah was another matter. *SIGH*

There was no other rational choice but McCain. But look what we got anyway. We needed a Reagan, and we got a Castro; a Chavez; a Mussolini... mark my words (as dumBiden said).

I’m usually quite optimistic on any given topic so I can’t tell you how much I hate feeling this way. But I cannot shake the feeling of impending doom. I felt bad things were coming back in 1992 and I was right, but that was nothing compared to this. Now I feel there are very bad things in store. VERY bad.

I literally cried yesterday because I doubt we have a real Republic anymore. Not sure how long that’s even been true. The Founders, particularly Franklin and Washington, knew the dangers of losing a Republic to a more sinister form of government. How they knew this still amazes me.
