Palin draws students to Johnstown speech By Mandy Hofmockel Collegian Staff Writer
Several College Republicans are planning to see Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin in Johnstown Saturday.
Palin is scheduled to make a campaign stop in Johnstown on Saturday to speak at the Cambria County War Memorial Arena.
Samuel Settle (freshman-political science) said he is planning see Palin speak and the more people who attend, the better it will look.
Settle said he likes Palin a lot and she is the most interesting candidate in the national election.
"McCain's an old face. Obama's an empty suit," Settle said. "Biden is the liberal, windier version of McCain. She's the new face that actually has some substance behind her."
Anthony Attanasio, a regional field director for the McCain campaign, said there are no planned events for State College, but a new office will be opening on Allen Street Saturday.
Attanasio said the campaign would still be eager to have a local stop.
Tickets for the event at the War Memorial in Johnstown will be available at the office at suite 207 of 108 W. Beaver Ave., he said.
Smith also spoke about the logistics of going, including tickets, travel and arrival and departure times.
The doors open at 8 a.m., Smith said, adding the group should leave State College at about 6:30 a.m.
Brendon Campbell (freshman-security and risk analysis) said he is planning to go to Johnstown and doesn't mind getting up early.
"Not at all, to go see Sarah Palin, I would get up at any time of day," Campbell said.
Campbell said he hopes Palin addresses Democratic presidential candidate Barack Obama and the people he's been associated with.
"Honestly, I'm just expecting to hear a great speech from Sarah," he said.
Campbell said he was vaguely familiar with Palin before she was announced as the Republican vice presidential candidate.
"She brings a new life into the campaign," Campbell said. "She has a lot of the same values I have."
Any chance of Pa Joe coming out for McCain?
Pa Joe could probably win PA for them. Pa Joe is Joe Paterno, the coach of Penn State. The man is idolized in PA for good reason.
Would that be the Penn State Nitaly Lions. ;^)
LOL! I remember that.
