Obama Campaign Worker Allegedly Files False Report with U.S. Secret Service

This is not the only alleged misuse of law enforcement resources to intimidate Obama's opponents

    http://caselaw.lp.findlaw.com/cgi-bin/getcase.pl?navby=case&court=us&vol=466&invol=475&pageno=484

Respondent was indicted for making false statements to the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) and the United States Secret Service, in violation of 18 U.S.C. 1001, which makes it a crime knowingly and willfully to make a false statement "in any matter within the jurisdiction of any department or agency of the United States." Respondent admittedly had lied in telling the FBI that his wife had been kidnapped, when, in fact, as the FBI determined upon investigation, she had left him voluntarily, and in also telling the Secret Service that his wife was involved in a plot to assassinate the President, when, in fact, the Secret Service, after investigating the charge and upon locating the wife, was told by her that she had left home to get away from respondent.

This example shows that it is heap bad juju, heap bad medicine, to use the FBI or U.S. Secret Service as toys in little kiddie games to intimidate ex-spouses or political opponents. "Secret Service visits Lufkin woman after 'death threat' allegation from an Obama campaign volunteer" shows that Barack Obama's campaign may need to learn this lesson the hard way, as the respondent in the above case did. A violation of 18 U.S.C. 1001 is, incidentally, punishable by up to five years in prison, which makes it a felony.

Here are more details. A woman received a call from someone who identified herself only as an Obama campaign volunteer. She told the purported campaign volunteer, "I told the caller, ‘I don’t support him,” she said. “‘Your guy is a socialist who voted four times in the state Senate to let little babies die in hospital closets. I think you should find something better to do with your time.’” A while later, she received a visit from two U.S. Secret Service agents who told her that the campaign volunteer had reported her for saying “I will never support Obama and he will wind up dead on a hospital floor.”

We are not attorneys and cannot give legal advice but, if an Obama campaign volunteer did give the U.S. Secret Service false information as alleged here, she may well have committed a felony. Furthermore, the allegation is consistent with others that have been made against the Obama campaign:

Gov. Blunt Statement on Obama Campaign’s Abusive Use of Missouri Law Enforcement

JEFFERSON CITY - Gov. Matt Blunt today issued the following statement on news reports that have exposed plans by U.S. Senator Barack Obama to use Missouri law enforcement to threaten and intimidate his critics.

“St. Louis County Circuit Attorney Bob McCulloch, St. Louis City Circuit Attorney Jennifer Joyce, Jefferson County Sheriff Glenn Boyer, and Obama and the leader of his Missouri campaign Senator Claire McCaskill have attached the stench of police state tactics to the Obama-Biden campaign.

“What Senator Obama and his helpers are doing is scandalous beyond words, the party that claims to be the party of Thomas Jefferson is abusing the justice system and offices of public trust to silence political criticism with threats of prosecution and criminal punishment.

“This abuse of the law for intimidation insults the most sacred principles and ideals of Jefferson. I can think of nothing more offensive to Jefferson’s thinking than using the power of the state to deprive Americans of their civil rights. The only conceivable purpose of Messrs. McCulloch, Obama and the others is to frighten people away from expressing themselves, to chill free and open debate, to suppress support and donations to conservative organizations targeted by this anti-civil rights, to strangle criticism of Mr. Obama, to suppress ads about his support of higher taxes, and to choke out criticism on television, radio, the Internet, blogs, e-mail and daily conversation about the election.

“Barack Obama needs to grow up. Leftist blogs and others in the press constantly say false things about me and my family. Usually, we ignore false and scurrilous accusations because the purveyors have no credibility. When necessary, we refute them. Enlisting Missouri law enforcement to intimidate people and kill free debate is reminiscent of the Sedition Acts - not a free society.”

It is also a Federal crime to conspire to deprive people of their civil rights, so Governor Blunt's allegations are very serious indeed--and consistent with this latest allegation of false reports to Federal law enforcement agencies.

Noting also that a false accusation of a crime is automatically libel--you don't even have to show that you have been damaged--we encourage the subject of the Secret Service visit to talk to a personal injury lawyer about the possibility of filing a lawsuit against the individual who reported her to the Secret Service. (The individual almost certainly had to provide the USSS with her identity when she filed the report.)

These are the same supporters who allegedly placed dead rabbits on the doorsteps of known Hillary supporters, and allegedly kept them awake at night by banging on pots & pans outside of their houses.

And they DARE to say the Republicans are bringing out the worst in people? They mastered the technique 6 months ago for if that were not the case, the PUMAs wouldn’t be in existence IMO.
