As I listen to the debate, my eyes glaze over.
Look at the big picture:
1) Rhetoric doesn't count, promises don't count, and words are cheap, so the whole point of having a debate is senseless.
2) Record does count. Obama's record sucks ...what little record he does have. As someone else said, he's walked down a lot of hallways but hasn't left many footprints. McCain's record sucks, but for a different reason. It's nearly impossible for a conservative position to have any voice in a congress dominated by free-spending greedy selfish assholes with zero integrity, who care only about lining their pockets, and don't give a rat's ass about America.
3) The President doesn't have near the authority to make sustantial changes that most people think he / she does. Congress has that authority. The only real way the President can bring about sustantial change is via threats of military action ...like Bush's threats of military action if Congress didn't pass Paulson's bail-out-his-Wall-Street-buddies bill.

I think you have overrated Congress.
A couple things.
1). The format is horrible. It isn’t a debate. The candidates can’t really engage each other. This is dueling soundbites.
2). I am really disappointed that McCain has been so soft on Obama after all the talk of attack, attack, attack. He is really pulling some punches. Obama has given him a ton of ammo and he refuses to take a lot of the bait.
I am enjoying hearing Obama lie. I suspect if he is elected, Google will be outlawed

Too true. What we need is more patriotic teaching in schools, youth groups, even adult groups. I have decided this is something the state legislatures would get behind.
When they said that the questioners were “chosen” I knew it would be a waste. Canned questions that meet the approval of the mediatards. Woopie.

If he loses to a radical empty suit it’ll be his own fault. He has not run a good campaign. And he is letting BHO off the hook. Whatever happened to the pre-debate talk of coming out swinging?

What a crock of crap. These questions were not submitted. Brokaw made them up from bits and pieces and you cannot tell me that Obama did not know them before the debate. He was too greased. Sad day.
Agreed. This format is the worst. You can’t blow off a question and go on the attack. This debate won’t change a thing. Obama will be declared the winner by the MSM. The MSM will declare race over.

Congress just does what is necessary to get re-elected. Almost all that they do is designed to maximize their individual re-election chances. If they actually DID anything they would risk all that.
I pray that the coming tribulation will be quick and our suffering short. My sadness is over the loss of life, liberty and the pursuet of happyness. The media and liberals are all too stupid to realize they are signing their own death warrant with this candidate.
I have had several weird experiences over the last few days. They were subtle come to your Lord events. Too many to be coincidence. I am starting to understand. It doesn't stop me from mourning the loss of our nation.
A whole lot of nothing, McCaine socialized the real estate market in the first five minutes of the debate.
I had to turn off the TV before I puked!

John McCain quoted Obama: Senator Obama, YOU have SAID in the past that if the economy is bad, you will withdraw your call for tax cuts. (Looking directly at Obama) Well, Senator Obama, let me tell you... the news is NOT good.
That hit hard, and really hard, and Obama NEVER responded to it.
I hope this gets played and played and played all over again!

Obama talked a lot more tonight, too much, but he was allowed to keep rambling and dominating the time.
No interesting questions asked. It was mostly a nightmare.
Come now. There are 4 long weeks to go. I am just telling you what the MSM will say. Don’t give up. We need to go down swinging.

Your exactly right, Mccains record means nothing, if it did mean anything we would be hearing about Obamas zero experience. Obama is worm tongue himself, everything he says are lies and Mccain just sits there and spouts off about his record, your record doesn’t mean CRAP! Mccain blew it big time tonight, if i didnt know any better id say that Mccain is going to vote for Obama!!!
The only hope here is for Mc Cain to educate the American moronic public as to what Obama really is , an ultra left wing Socialist with DIRECT ties to domestic terrorist . He won’t go for the glory though .
PS tonight was the first time I watched them on TV. Mc Cain looks terrible , old , broken somewhat slow on his responses. That alone will kill his chances. We picked the wrong guy for sure .God help us all.

Yeah, I know. That was one horrible debate. McCain has been a senator too long and acts like one instead of a candidate.
The questions in this debate were boring and Mccain would have had to work harder to get anything in about Obama.
All in all, I think tonight was his last hurrah.

I agree. If style is more than substance, Obama won. If substance is paramount, McCain won. I’d like to know how much time each had the floor. It seemed that Obama just rambled and rambled. He couldn’t define verbose in less than 10,000 words. He’s got the worst diarrhea of the mouth of any living politician, save Joe Biden, possibly. It was a really bad format and Brokaw was just horrible.
Uggh, McCaine states he wants to buy up the mortgages of people in trouble and lower their principal and we want to point fingers at the democrats?
Note to all poor choosers, you can stop making your house payments now because it doesn’t matter who wins, Uncle Sam is going to fix it for you.
I was one of those who said I would hold my nose and vote McCaine back when everyone was saying they were going to sit the election out. It it weren’t for Palin, I might sit this one out for the first time in my life.
I wish you were right about exposing Obama as a left-wing socialist. I just don’t know though. Obama is certainly as liberal as Mondale or McGovern, even more so, perhaps. I think the electorate has changed. Mondale carried one state and D.C. A country is in trouble when fully one half of its wage earners pay no taxes. They have no vested interest in the country save being parasites. Obama knows this and is playing to it. Frankly, I’m astounded that we Republicans ever win on a national level. There’s no way we can out promise a Democrat. No way in hell. People simply no longer care about personal responsibility. This nation is going left, perhaps irretrievably so.
I suppose it doesn’t do much good now to say I knew before this debate that the questions would be fashioned to favor Obama. Mostly stuff we already knew, safe for Obama, was about all that was covered. I did see a chance to slip something in about Ayers and his anti American buddies but Mccain probably wouldn’t have done it. It would have been tough anyway.
We need a miracle to keep Obama out of the WH. Obama’s miracle was that his gray hair disappeared tonight.
You need to explain.
I know where you are coming from. Parts have already happened over time. I find it hard to believe the time has come to place the cherry on the top.
