The storm is still brewing about OW's announcement. Her website has been bombarded with angry letters from fans of the show who say they now see her true colors.
Welcome to my world, ladies. Nice of you to finally join me. But now give Oprah a break.
It's not fair to say that O is showing favoritism because Barack and Michelle have appeared on her show. Technically they were on her show before he officially announced his candidacy. Once Oprah decided to publicly endorse him, it seems to make sense that she would therefore not have him or any other candidate make any appearances during the campaign, as her statement about this whole matter said.
Because you have to admit that it would be very difficult for her to appear impartial. I don't blame her for not wanting to open herself, and the reputation of her show, to the scrutiny that would most certainly ensue.
While other talk show hosts may tilt their hand about who they are favoring -- you just know who Ellen Degeneres and Joy Behar are going to vote for -- few, if any, make speeches out in public on his behalf. And, of course, they aren't Oprah. So they can easily get away with having the other guy on the show, being respectful (in Joy's case, while he's there, at least) and usually managing to have a bit of fun.
But this is where O is making her mistake: The unique circumstance of the Sarah Palin selection transcends the usual political scenarios. And we know O loves all things transcendental. Having Sarah make an appearance would not be political. It would be enlightening -- another of Oprah's Favorite Things.
I think if O made a few calls, she would find that the McCain team would agree to have Sarah talk as little about politics as possible. Just have it be a light-hearted meet-Oprah's-world conversation. And that it would only be fair if Senator Biden then did the same -- even though he's not new to the scene, he might be just as unknown, to O's viewers anyway.
And Senator McCain could also gracefully decline to appear, despite BO's previous appearances, because he recognizes that all this kerfuffle is not about him. Shrewd woman that she is, I think O will reconsider and come up with a plan not too unlike what I've suggested here.
If she doesn't, my opinion about her won't change. I've lovehated her from the start, and I will continue to do so. I don't think it will be the beginning of the end for her, by any stretch, but it does bring her down a notch.
And ultimately I think that it will jeopardize support for all the causes she endorses -- the reasons that I love her. And I really hate that.
She went to B0s church of 20 years. She knew that they practise Black Liberation Theology, which is anti-Judeo-Christian. She still supported B0.
I dunno about Oprah, but I have the same kinda' thing goin' on about White Castle Hamburgers...
Funny thing is her viewers seem to realize that. It's other people that are having the problem seeing that.
Excerpt from a fundraiser story. Good to see Barry's not an elitist.
Stevie Wonder performed for guests, who included Sidney Poitier, Forest Whitaker, Chris Rock, Cindy Crawford, Jimmy Connors, Linda Evans, Dennis Haysbert and many others. Will Smith, Jamie Foxx and Halle Berry also were expected, though it was unclear if they were in attendance. The media were barred from the fundraiser.
Visitors were bused to Winfrey's secluded home from an equestrian center about 10 miles away. A solid line of limousines, BMWs, Bentleys and a few hybrid Priuses disgorged well-dressed guests. Some sported stiletto heels despite official instructions to wear flat shoes for walking on Winfrey's meadow.
I found a link to the comments on her site with her announcement, read only one page of them, and her fans were irate. I'm surprised she doesn't get her shrills out there, scrub the board, and get it more balanced. That surprises me because our local forum which is probably um 70-30 mouthy libs, they are badmouthing the Republican candidates and past candidates nonstop. Which brings me to that Reverend Ma????? link, will have to check my bookmarks, the black minister who rants against Obama. He is saying that the only way to beat Obama is not by debating issues, not by exposing his background (because his adoring masses don't care, I could have told you that, and a couple other points, is to boycott first and foremost, CNN, then ABC, CBS, NBS, then all the liberal newspapers, mainly the NYT. What am I supposed to watch anyway? CNN I had to use to watch the convention because I don't have cable. I think I could have turned on the TV and used PBS.
I'm not that into boycotts because they tend to be self-defeating for me, but wow, that pastor was full of fire, ire, and brimstone bigtime.
It's late or I'd clean it up better, pls 'scuse my run-on sentences and whatever.
The point isn’t about the politics. Oprah, as an Arugula McTeleprompter supporter, can’t allow Sarah on her show in any way, shape or form.
Why? Because even with all politics aside, that would bring Sarah into view of all the Oprah fans...millions of women. Mothers, professionals, professional mothers...ones who don’t care about Oprah’s politics, ones who don’t care for politics, etc.
Those viewers got to see the Obama’s hang out on a talk show and have a conversation. So all of Barry’s horrendous politics aside, they saw him acting like a person. Likewise, that US Weekly advertisement for the Obama’s didn’t need any politics to have a political slant. The cover picture of Obama hugging his wife plus the caption “Why He LOVES Her” throws all of her resentment and elitist euro-worship out the window, replacing it with the image of a loving wife and mother.
So even without mentioning politics, Sarah’s presence for an extended amount of time (ie more than a sound bite in an ad) would be 100x the exposure many of Oprah’s audience would otherwise have, and her personality would evoke 100x the response of the awkward Barry and angry Michelle. (Add her actual views to the mix, and it’s a done deal.)
That’s why Oprah can’t afford to give her viewers exposure to Sarah, regardless of topic or context.
* Obamas, not Obama’s...must be late for me to commit such a cringe-inducing typo...twice
LOL! Odd as it may seem, I have had much the same experience... What a strange and unsettling coincidence! :D
It makes sense because everyone already knew who she endorsed — which was a big deal — because she is *Oprah* — and she is always trying to be open and unbiased on her show — it would just be too hard after she made such an effusive, public endorsement. (Or it could have been because of the backlash that she saw after ridiculing Hillary supporters during that endorsement, and she decided to pull out of the fray.)
If you're watching CNN, then you have cable -- it's not broadcast over the airwaves as NBC/CBS/ABC/PBS are. I knew there was something off about Oprah; the revelation of her association with Rev. Wrong brings that into perspective.
Oprah is a zerO. And the couch potatoes that sit and watch her on the boob tube need to get a life. Sitting for 1/2 hr or one hour hanging on to ‘her words/thoughts’ are the sheep that enjoy being led. They are truly being take for a ride - while she ranks in the bucks. There is no doubt in my mind she must have many a belly laughs when she thinks how she made her money.
Let’s see - what has she done for America? What she set out to do - indoctrinate those who have no direction.
Oprah, has “outed” herself as a Black Supremacist.
It’s that simple.
Cute story, CMoran325 - and welcome to Free Republic!
From http://www.lovehateoprah.com
“My husband, James Pethokoukis, business editor at US News (endearingly referred to as “Jimmy P.” by Larry Kudlow) was driving from St. Paul to Chicago to see family before returning to D.C.
He was stopped for speeding (80 in a 65 zone) and as he was chatting it up with the trooper, he mentioned where he was coming from, and of course it led to talking about Sarah Palin. Jim told the trooper that he came up with Larry’s favorite new name for the vp nom — Sarah America!
Well, I don’t want to get anyone in trouble but... the trooper smiled and said, “Hey, just slow it down.” And sent him on his way.
Sarah Palin has already helped keep money in my family’s pocket!”

I get the Hate part. The love thing has just never happened for me.
Okra is racist and out to make money. She has a winning package that appeals to many women. That doesn’t change who she really is.
Reformedliberal has some brilliant insight on the psychologically cultish and marketing aspects of the Oprah phenomenon. http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/news/2076121/posts?page=70#68
I wonder if Oprah will have Obama return after he loses the election.
Let Oprah stew in her own political problems, the free publicity certainly is not hurting Gov Pallin.
Pallin has already made a good impression.
If Sarah Palin was a “Person of Color”, she would have been on the OW show within days, if not hours!
one episode of her show, she had all the white members of the audience stand up and apologize to all the black members of the audience for enslaving them.
I have never seen her show, Only read about it. That alone turned away from ever watching it. Not all white people were slave owners or traders.
Occasionally a local broadcast station will pick it up for, say, a Saturday morning newscast. I’m not sure that one would (or even could) for the convention though....(Usually the indy stations clean up during the conventions by attracting viewers who don’t watch political oonventions.)
No I watched CNN streaming video on my computer, the only way I can get it.
My dad would have called that stuff Grade A tripe, all those afternoon shows and a lot else lol. But not Oprah specifically. I don't know if she'd caught on when he died.
Then I just plain got bored with it plus something deep inside told me she was drifting away from my values, can't remember what triggered it. I wouldn't have called it liberal then, but that's what it was. My only issue is that one daughter is a great fan of hers and never learned to think for herself. It's our schools, even though she got a masters degree and I never did. I racked up a lot of college credits, but had to learn how to learn to be fully challenged and go beyond what was spoon fed us in classes. You have to do that in real life in a professional job or you will never get past entry level unless you have someone higher up pulling for you. I had some of that, too, but it didn't take me where I wanted to be.
My apology; I didn't think about that. Most of the webcasts I've seen are in tiny (to me) windows that can't be enlarged, and choppy or broken up to follow clearly.
My ex used to watch Oprah, but even she got sick of her preachy attitude and self-serving promotions. She told me the real break came after she found that all those cars that Oprah "gave away" -- weren't hers to give, but were from GM itself. Good for the folks that got them, but proved that Oprah doesn't tell the truth if the lie will serve her aims.
I rarely watch TV, and threw cable out back in '94 when they wouldn't allow me to block some of the trash channels on their basic service. I've got nine or ten over-the-air, so I don't need their trash and ever-increasing prices. Now I've got Verizon pushing FiOS instead of my DSL -- at twice the price. Must be Democrats -- think we're just made of money!
