Oprah was not always bias. 2000 election she had both candidates on! I was there

Posted on 09/06/2008 8:20:25 AM PDT by IndianPrincessOK

I was on Oprah in 2000 when she had Bush running against Gore. She allowed both to come on and let her viewers decide who they would vote for. At that time Gore was ahead by, I believe, 10 pts. After her show Bush went up 8 pts. SHE knows that by having Palin on everyone will love her and the election could very well turn the tide. Her man Obama on 2 times this year and none for McCain or Palin speaks volumes. Maye Oprah used to be fair and unbiased but she has forgotten or doesn't care about her viewers. Sounds like propaganda to me!

Lucky for her that the Fairness Doctrine does not apply to this personal choice she has made.

Her man Obama on 2 times this year and none for McCain or Palin speaks volumes. First, I am no fan of Obama, I am fired up about McCain/Palin. However, are you sure Obama was on 2 times THIS YEAR? It is my understanding that he was on Oprah's show in 2005 and again in 2006 before he announced his candidacy for President. If this is the case, then I don't see where she has given him preferential treatment on her show. If she had him on AFTER he announced his candidacy, then yes she's being biased.

She had Obama on a long, long time ago before he even announced his candidacy. This is no big deal.

Just a couple of white guys...why would Oprah exclude one? Now if John Kerry had been BLACK...

Of course Obama was on the Tyra show too. You would have to pay me to watch the show but they showed clips on E! channel’s “The soup.”

I remember GWB being on Oprah, and talking about how scared he was when he and Laura were afraid she might miscarry with their twins. So Oprah certainly is not averse to having candidates on in an election year. If Palin is not on it just proves Oprah’s big bias.

Dare I say it - the candidates in 2000 weren't black.

I agree with you. Oprah’s afraid to have another woman on the show who might actually trump her.

I was never a regular watcher of Oprah..too much “aren’t I just amazing with all I have been and did you notice I am black” kind of vibe.
But I turned her off permanently when she said one day...
Come on white people you got to learn this dance,(talking about the electric slide)
Come on white people????? All those silly white Oprahbots in the audience applauded and cheered and nodded in absurd agreement.
Yep its ok for her to say things like that but she was outraged at Don Imus? Cut me a break.
Oprah is so far removed from regular people that she has no clue.

I remember in 2000 when Gore came on--and then Bush. Gore did OK--but when GW pecked Oprah on the cheek, a whole lotta women went "AAAWWW"--and it really helped Bush in the polls.

Just goes to show how God works in mysterious ways--and that's what Oprah is REALLY afraid of.

Of course--the perceived "unfairness" in denying Palin the opportunity to be on her show might be just the way she's "used" this time--tee hee!

.... Thank you OPRAH you just confirmed what I’ve always thought... REVERSE DISCRIMINATION IS ALIVE AND WELL!!! Who is the real RACIST now???

I knew Oprah was a racist by her statements and behaviors and expressions during and after the O.J. Simpson trials. Several other friends of mine picked up on it too. None of us has watched her since — can’t stand the woman and she gets more insufferable as time passes.

I remember hearing stories about Oprah taking steps to reduce her mother’s ownings down to nothing so she could go on the public dole in her elderly years for housing, medical care, etc.

McCain/Palin would be FAR better off NOT going on Oprah, even if the big O relented in the final week , and LET them on. NOTHING should be said by any surrogate working in the McC/P campaign sounding anything like whining or crying about how “Oprah won’t let us on, Oprah won’t let us on...... is that fair????”
Remind that David Letterman played that stupid inside-Showbiz joke for a year or two about Oprah not coming on HIS show, and she finally went on his show, and it was only a big deal to people who live their lives in this alternate reality called television.
SARAH PALIN DOES NOT NEED OPRAH, ANY MORE THAN SHE NEEDS, AS SHE PUT IT IN HER NEWS FLASH, the “good opinion” of a media who thinks it’s “all about them”. Oprah is not without her good qualities, but she ALSO thinks it’s “all about her”, and her beloved soon-to-be-loser candidate Obama. The MAIN reason she “could” be seen as being important to McCain/Palin is that all these Oprah-ites who form her huge adoring audience, are WOMEN, and some of these WOMEN may be seen as the “formerly-Hillary” swing vote that could gravitate to MCCAIN/PALIN.Oprah sees herself as “withholding” any extra woman votes from the McCain/Palin ticket. If things hold up the way they are , a FEW MILLION of them WILL go over to Palin, regardless of what Oprah or anyone else in the Media do or don’t do.

This is a big deal....to women! Fair and unbiased is just the American way. Let ME decide who I will vote for based on viewing the candidates...NOT Oprah by endorsing her man and NOT giving Palin/and/or McCain the same time. Obama has been on twice...to Republicans nada. Oprah used to be fair and balanced...I know, I was in the audience in 2000 when Bush was on her show after Gore the week before. THIS is a big deal to me, and other women, trust me!

Yes, this is true. Gore was known at the time of saying his favorite cereal was Wheaties..Breakfast of Champions. gag. Yes, Bush was remembered for kissing Oprah on the cheek AND for handling the big media blitz of his drinking at one time and DUI.

Gore on one week, Bush next. I was there...she WAS FAIR. Not now.

If you believe this is going to be a close race and women will be needed in votes....then, I disagree. Oprah has an incredible audience ...but she has lost a few after this. It’s one thing to promote fairness in broadcasting and another to downright show propaganda and bias. This election is too important...

Yes, you are right she had Obama on twice in 2 years. She has had McCain or Palin on none at all. HMMMMM you think MAYBE since she has endorsed and worked to get Obama elected...that she just might have purposely had him on her show to start introducing him to the public and women audience. She never had Hil on either so she is not only bias to Republican candidates she also slapped Hil. There goes a lot of women voters and last time I checked THAT’S Her (WAS) audience. This is a set up with promotions of Obama...a planned strategy. She just didn’t expect a woman Republican and society of Americans sick and tired of her using her show to promote HER black Chicago boy and not being fair and unbias. That’s all.

Converting VCR to something you can use is a real pain if you don’t have the correct setup.

Make a TECH (as the Keyword and Computers as the Topic) *ping* to Shadow Ace or Swordfish, that’ll get people here on GL who have the right setup and skill, to offer the help you’ll need.

In my opinion, Oprah like Rosie O'Donnell, kept her true self hidden. She's an entertainer. She appears to be a racist much like Jerimiah Wright and Obamassiah. After all, she attended that church which hates Whites, Catholics, and Jews... end of opinion...

McCain has already , like most politicos who’ve been around a long time, put in his obligatory Late Night appearances , most recently on Leno, a good while before he picked Sarah Palin. I think it would be refreshing if they stuck staunchly to the rhetorical point Sarah made, and simply GO TO THE PEOPLE AND THE PEOPLE ALONE. That would show the MSM once and for all, just who it is who is supposed to decide things in this country. They SHOULD DO IT INTENTIONALLY. It would be REVOLUTIONARY, and would anger the MSM to such a degree they would make FOOLS of themselves, and ruin their unearned influence for YEARS TO COME.
