Two women are filing a discrimination lawsuit against a Michigan McDonald’s that they claim refused to hire them because they wear the hijab, a Muslim headscarf.
“These unbelievers insult our religion by insisting that we expose ourselves in order to get a job at their restaurant,” charged litigant Toi Whitfield of Detroit. “We will not submit to decadence.”
“Our virtue should not bar us from employment,” fellow litigant, Quiana Pugh of Dearborn added.
“We have a dress code at the restaurant,” explained Bud Bland, manager of the targeted McDonalds. “Everyone who works here wears a standard uniform—pants, shirt and hat. If you won’t wear it, you can’t work here. It’s not discriminatory. It’s just that simple.”
The suit is demanding $10 million in damages. “It’s not a question of restitution,” said Dawud Walid, head of the Council on American Islamic Relations in Michigan. “The issue is deterrence. By making an example of this one case we send a message to all employers that they must accommodate our beliefs or face bankruptcy.”
The suit also demands that the Dearborn McDonalds cease offering bacon as a burger add-on. “It is not halal,” Walid pointed out. “To serve it in a Muslim community mocks Islam.”
The Detroit-Dearborn area has the densest Muslim population in the United States.

The only thing that angers me about this is that you know the McDonalds corporation will completely buckle to the Muslims on this, in fear of being seen as “culturally insensitive”. They’ll rush with a huge settlement offer, demand that the restaurant hire the complainers, offer full scholarships for a local Muslim student in the city to attend the college of their choice, donate $100,000 to a Muslim organization... all in the total fear that they’ll be seen as “insensitive”. Yes, the local manager seems to “get it”, but- there’s people higher up than him.
I will not submit.
And by the way, I’ll have the bacon cheeseburger.

Will the strict Muslim employees at McDonalds -— use toilet paper or their left hand to wipe after defecating????
If they use their hand, who is going to monitor the care with which they clean up before serving food — since gloves are no longer used in most fast food places.
As NON Muslim customers - are we not permitted to insist our food handlers are in compliance with 21st century cleanliness standards?

Well, they have the University of Michigan there. Come to think of it...your right....nothing good comes out of Michigan.

I wouldn’t blame McDonalds if they get disgusted and move out of that area. I wonder if they have a good business there.
In this case I bet you one Big Mac that Mickie D wins. The employer, for both health and safety reasons, can prescribe a uniform. Everyone wears the uniform for their own safety and for food cleanliness reasons, so it is not discriminatory of any religion. If these girls wanted to be firefighters, it wouldn’t work either. That they are so brazen in threatening bankruptcy to those who do not genuflect before their demands is a good thing. Glad they are open about it. Islam, the religion of silly litigants.
I think it’s a concentrated effort to play ‘victim,’ just like the flying imams, who I believe wanted to be booted from their flight, then sue. I saw a muslim cashier at our locat Target (central NC) that asked a customer if he had alcohol in his cart. When he said he did, she directed him go to another cashier, as she “couldn’t ring him up.” Saw it with my own eyes, it has bugged me since - they want to force US to accomodate THEIR beliefs.
I imagine McD’s will eventually cave in, and create a halal menu and new McDonaldland characters, like Mehmet McCheese
