SEN. VOINOVICH STATEMENT ON LIFTING OF OFFSHORE DRILLING EXECUTIVE BAN
July 14, 2008
WASHINGTON, D.C. U.S. Senator George V. Voinovich (R-OH), a member of the Senate Environment and Public Works Committee, released the following statement after it was announced that President Bush will lift an executive ban on offshore drilling that has been in place since 1990:
"Todays action by President Bush is an important step forward, but it must be matched by Congress lifting its moratorium as soon as possible. Ohio families are being hit hard by sky-high gasoline and diesel prices and we cannot afford to wait any longer to tap the resources we have available here at home. Thats why I fought to prevent a 53-cent gas tax hike that had been included in the Lieberman-Warner climate bill. And it is why I proposed a new Manhattan Project that will put us on a path toward energy independence. In addition to increasing our domestic energy supply by exploring the Outer Continental Shelf and ANWR, we must use tar sands and oil shale and we must expand our refining capacity. We need to find more and use less. Unfortunately, environmental groups have convinced some of my colleagues to block anything that would increase supply and bring down prices at the pump. Ive been voting for increased domestic exploration for a decade. If we had started exploring ANWR 10 years ago when President Clinton vetoed it, and coupled it with a comprehensive energy plan, we wouldnt be in this predicament today. But now the chickens have come home to roost. We can afford to wait no longer."

Oh DAMN!....We can't afford to wait no longer."
what! no proof-readers?.....(damn) spell-checker or Freudian slip?
Voinovich actually responds to letters and emails? News to me - I have never gotten a reply from him, not even an automated one.
Beavercreek, OH
I got an honest, real, not computer generated response. Stunned. Like you I have contacted him in the past and been ignored.
There are several pieces of energy legislation he is working on. One is posted above, the other has been stalled in committee. The other is the Gas and Petroleum Refiners Act S. 1503.
This chokes me up.
If recent studies show that only 1% of the oil spills come from drilling and over 30% of the spills occur in transporting the oil.It is enviromentally sound to do more drilling at home.
I can’t stand Voinovich. Barely even a RINO. But with this one issue, he’s locked my vote for him in the future.
The man seems to have regained his senses, or is he up for re-election?
LOL.
Did Voinovich work up some tears when he released this?
I still can't get over Voinovich crying over John Bolton.
There are so many issues that would sink the dems this fall. But if this is an issue that the gop can unify around, then fine. It alone will crush, destroy the liberals. Make drilling and exploring for oil the central them at the gop convention. Let the people know that it’s the democrats in congress hurting the middle class and working poor. McCain and the gop would come out of the convention with a 20 point bounce.
This falls into the ‘stopped clock is right twice a day’ bucket.
When it’s voting time for ‘Stupidest Senator’ Voinovich can only say, ‘Thank the Lord for Sen. Boxer.’
I was either dreaming or heard this morning that the congressional ban on drilling ends on 09/30.
If you think the energy issue is “not much,” then yeah, I guess.
There are only 4 issues that matter to me: Energy (which means drilling now), 2nd Amendment, illegal immigration, and national security. Abortion is close to being on the list, but without the others it is a moot issue because the nation will fall, as is SCOTUS appointments as far as they will impact the other 5.
and lest we forget....w/full prisons (filled w/their political foes.)
“I have never gotten a reply from him, not even an automated one.”
Me, either.
We’re basically on the same page.
National security trumps all.
A rational and common sense approach to national security will encompass a sane energy policy as well, which roughly translated means we will drill the living Hell out of ANY acreage within the Continental United States that has oil, and we will build nuclear reactors to supplement our energy needs, and the environmental wackos can go pound sand.
And any national security policy MUST include the RKBA by the American citizen-soldier. An armed populace is the last line of defense against foreign AND domestic enemies no matter where they originate from, be it some Islamofascist sh*t hole somewhere in the Middle East, or in the inner sanctums of elected officials seeking to betray our Country.
And the only abortions that should be taking place are retroactive abortions for the traitors selling us out.
Illegal immigration? It ends the day after U.S. troops begin enforcing a “shoot to kill” order for anyone illegally crossing into the United States across our southern border with our undeclared enemy Mexico, or “shoot to stop” with our good neighbors to the north, i.e. Canada.
It’s our damn Nation, if someone wants to visit, come in the front door. Try to sneak in the back door, and you get a load o’ buckshot for your troubles.
Either of "We can afford to wait no longer" and "We can't afford to wait any longer" works. "We can't afford to wait no longer" would be double negation.
Drilling and Pipelines are still the smallest source.

How Does Oil Impact The Environment?

LOL! *grin*
yes, yes, yes....the (proper :) Official English Grammar Police, have "scolded / chastised" me already!
A few tears he shed? You misrepresent the episode. He cried like a toddler. He flailed his arms, stomped his feet and wailed that the Bolton appointment would be the worst thing for the country that he loved that he was going to bequeath to his children and his grandchildren. If you’re going to tell it, tell it like it is.
Voinovich must be up for election this year. Following his comportment on the appointment of John Bolton, he cannot redeem himself in my eyes. He comported himself like a Democrap.
You are in error. He said it correctly.
Ummmmmm.......would that be because you tried to be the grammar police and blew it?
“I was either dreaming or heard this morning that the congressional ban on drilling ends on 09/30.”
I think that it does, and also that Congress has to renew it by then. Think GW can veto, too. Someone know for sure?
I don’t think they could pass it again that close to an election, would be fun to watch the dems...
Never mind, as long as you support drilling, all this is really secondary! :-D
Earlier today I sent my anti-drill senator Rockefeller a little note politely asking why he has his head up his @#$%!
That's an irony in itself. I wonder if he realizes that he would be an absolute nobody if it hadn't been for his ancestors--who made their fortune by ... DRILLING FOR OIL!
I got an actual response from Sherrod Brown. It went like this:
“Let’s take care of the amnesty issue first, then we can decide how high to build the fence and how many border patrol agents we need.”
He didn’t reply to my reply...
http://news.yahoo.com/s/nm/20080714/pl_nm/usa_energy_dc
It is in the middle of this article, the congressional ban on offshore drilling DOES EXPIRE on 09/30/2008... it could be extended........ lolol... that will be FUN to watch.

Ohio Ping!
To be added to the Ohio Ping List, please freepmail (works best) both TonyRo76 and LasVegasDave.
Save the environment.
Drill and relieve the pressure to cut down on the seepage.
LOL!!! That is exactly why I taught math and NOT grammar. Can't keep all those crazy rules in my head! Course the kids would have loved having me for grammar......
Me neither.
Urbana, OH
What the hell are you talking about?
He’ll prolly start crying about how he has worked this over andover in his mind .... so he got a right deicision for the first time in along time. He’s still a worthless stinking RINO that we would be better off without
Have a hard time arguing with that...
See #23, he gets it.
