Washington, D.C.With the price of gas topping above $4 per gallon, Americans say that drilling is the top priority above all else. Consumers have signaled Congress to open the outer continental shelf now.
According to the new Zogby Poll, taken June 29-July 4, 88% of Americans think drilling here, and drilling now is more important than anything else. That compares to 45% just two short years ago. The poll result show that Americans want growth, noting to Congress, Screw the environment. Drill here. Drill now!

Now yer tawlkin/writin some good (bleep!) Funny thing is... The sensitive, politically correct, litigation avoi
dance drilling will never come close to "Screwing The Environment!!!"
They just showed me a program on PBS promoting the neat things one can see and do hiking and biking around in Lost Angeles. A dramatic before and after of a site with wall-to-wall drilling rigs from the 1940's, followed by the same site today as a hugely attractive tourism site with beautiful canals, etc.
Reclamation can be a beautiful thing, even when strip-mining for coal/oil/whatever!!!
Google for "Earth Share" who gets Public Service Announcements instead of paying for advertising to promote their massive work-site fund raising activity, nationwide!!!

Of course, if these pollsters worded things differently, then you might see a larger percentage for drilling. You mean questions like:
"Do you mind paying a little more to commute to work to avoid destroying the planet, killing off all the wildlife, polluting the atmosphere, heating the earth until the Oceans boil and everything on land is burned to a cinder? Or...
(deep breath)
"... do you think YOU should save pennies a day and slaughter all the beautiful creatures, kill the fishies and little birdies, obliterate the forrests, heat the globe and turn the WORLD into a horrible, poisoned, and uninhabitable wasteland?"
(pause)
"Well, Gaia is waiting for you to answer...."
/sarc>
Don't see how that would cause any poll bias...nosir, not me...

Ive always believed that everything on earth is here for humans to use to their best advantage, minerals, plants/trees, and animals. You are correct and because you are correct those who seek to gain power over you must turn good into bad, up into down, morals into demagoguery, etc. Evolution has become fact, except for one small revision - humans aren't part of the equation. They are the spoilers of the equation when they want to declare their rightful place in the hierarchy of the food chain. It is then that the atheist abandon their positions.

WHats not spoken of is the already drilled wells on the north slope that are CAPPED... CAPPED?.. Many wells CAPPED.. And already known legal licensed leased fields with fairly shallow oil available NOW.. So you think the owners of the wells just sort of randomly cap them despite the fact that they are profitable?
Wells have decline curves, at a certain point, it is no longer productive to produce them, even if there is oil still in them. Contrary to popular opinion, oil doesn't just sit in a pool waiting to be sucked out. It sits in complicated geological formations that are often difficult to get at in a cost effective manner.

Oilfield operators have to obey environmental rules same as everyone else.
Critters live out in oil fields, unmolested. The occasional pickup rolling by, the occasional work-over rig doing its thing doesn’t bother them a bit.

ah, we Americans. Why does it always seem to take a crisis for people to wake UP and come to their senses? much like 9/11. and yet, what short memories we have - when that particular crisis is past (whichever one it is), people soon forget, relax and revert to the same pre-crisis thinking.

Oh, tell me about it - and tonight they reran Larry King with the CEO of Chevron on, trying to talk sense to LK and callers, but...not a prayer. Know how LK ended the show? With a segment of Ed Begley, Jr. interviewed, on all the “practical, important” things everyone can do to make a difference - reminded me of Jimmy Carter’s famous “wear a sweater” speech.
