The thrust of the article, however, is not to highlight the folly of the leftist policies of mandating the use of biofuels, it is of course, to bash the Bush Administration.
"The daily said the report was finished in April but was not published to avoid embarrassing the US government, which has claimed plant-derived fuels have pushed up prices by only three percent."
Last time I checked, Bush is not in the Enviro-kook camp, so its not like hes trying to cover for Barack Obama, Al Gore, and their minions, who want to use more biofuels as an alternative to oil.
It might be a good idea, in response to this report, to lower or eliminate biofuel requirements, and drill for some freakin' oil. Then maybe Americans and the rest of the world can afford to eat.

Boy, it’s a good thing that $143/bbl crude prices have *nothing to do* with the rise in prices of anything. Oh, wait...

Ethanol is the darling of the environazis. Let them suck on it.
The current mandates for ethanol use were created by the republican controlled house and senate in the Energy Policy Act of 2005. The bill was signed into law by Bush. The republicans are as much to blame for where we are right now as the democrats.
The most curious part of this entire biofuel mess...is that corn really isn’t the best choice for the fuel...but the congressmen from Iowa and the corn belt have set this entire episode into motion....based on two decades of the idea that corn will be “the crop”. Another curious thing....which you have to dig to find this statistic....there are 86 million acres of corn to be planted this year (2008)...which is 7.5 million less than last year, and at least 1.5 million less than the experts predicted. The logic explained so far is that corn planting requires a certain amount of fertilizer and ammonia, which requires natural gas usage, which has gone up dramatically over the past year or two....so some farmers just decided to shift over to another crop.
This business of agricultural....is more diverse than most people grasp.
