Rumor: McCain Has Chosen Romney As VP
CoEdMagazine.com ^ | July 3, 2008 | No author

Posted on 07/03/2008 2:58:43 PM PDT by TDCAnalyst

Sen. John McCain will choose businessman and former Massachusetts Governor, Mitt Romney as Vice President, in his bid for the White House this November, a source closely connected with the McCain campaign, who asked to remain anonymous, told us earlier this afternoon.

Though others were close in the running, the choice ultimately came down to the money–not the man. According to our source, the campaign narrowed their Vice Presidential options to Mike Huckabee and Mitt Romney, the two most successful opponents of McCain in the bid for the Republican nomination. But despite Huckabee’s sway with far Right conservatives and evangelical voters, Romney packs the deepest fund-raising pockets.

As a successful businessman and prominent member of the staggeringly wealthy Mormon community, Romney brings with him the potential to raise “upwards of $60 million in 30 to 60 days, whereas Huckabee could only raise $10 to $15 million,” says our source.

McCain needs those types of numbers to be competitive with the money-sponge that is the Obama campaign, which has 1.7 million individual donors–as well as the Hollywood machine–and is ringing-out advertising dollars across the country, saturating voters in his ‘50 State Strategy‘ to win the White House.

“How the hell did the publisher of the ‘Top 20 Side-Boobs of All Time‘ get this scoop,” you must be asking yourself, right now. (We were asking ourselves the same question.) And here’s the answer: It’s all part of the McCain campaign’s plan to directly target college-age voters, in an attempt to sway them away from Sen. Obama, says our source.

Mitt Romney is a good choice in theory, but that doesn’t mean he’ll be an asset on the ticket. In fact, he has enormous credibility problems with many conservatives.

Romney is barely more popular than McCain with conservatives and neither is particularly inspiring as a candidate.

I was hoping that McCain would pick a conservative (or even somewhat conservative) female, thereby further cementing the wedge between those women still smarting over Hillary’s defeat and the DNC.

If true, that will set Romney up well for 2012, since McCain will probably not seek reelection due to his age. This of course is assuming ‘President McCain’ doesn’t totally screw things up in the four years he’s in.

Those that know are not talking. McCain has the advantage of picking after Obama and won’t say anything until then.

Doesn’t matter. I am not a Romney fan (FDT was my candidate) but McCain/Romney has a good chance against Obama/? more so than McCain/Palin McCain/Pawlenty and the rest.

Normally I would wholeheartedly agree. I just have this feeling that the McCain campaign is so stagnant he really needs to do something to get in the game. And he needs someone to get out there and articulate policy positions. Every time McCain speaks I feel people cringe.

There are so many more to choose from that would have helped our Country.

I say he at least names two VP’s and then changes his mind before he get the nominee that runs with him in November. McCain is a modern Hamlet, he cannot make up his mind, take a positon, or make a decision, without reversing it in a short period of time.

What exactly is the advantage? Obama is going to lose in November, no matter who he has as his VP.

Exactly. Romney adds nothing to the ticket. I will be very disappointed if we don’t have a conservative on the ticket.

. . . , a source closely connected with the McCain campaign, who asked to remain anonymous, told us earlier this afternoon.

I'm not saying it can't happen, nor am I saying it won't happen, I'm just saying that this kind of wording indicates the rumor is baseless.

McCain has an enormous ego and there is no reason to show his hand before the Democrat convention.

So, you don’t like whites, older people, or men?

Maybe an 18 year old, black, female would be better?

And he has a strong on the ground organization ready to roll. I really think if the primaries weren't front-loaded this year Romney would have been a real contender.

I know this is a long way from being a done deal, but just the rumor gets me so fired up.

Hillary voters want masculinity. If you think Romney is masculine, then that will actually help would-be Hillary voters. After all, their original candidate (Hillary) is about as manly as a woman can be.
