Humans are thoughtless and cruel. I know Im preaching to the choir here, but did you know their thoughtlessness goes back many, many years? Check out this invention by some innovator type from back in the thirties. I like how this article from the June, 1936 issue of Popular Mechanics starts out

I personally love the kitty carrier I saw from a few years back. Can’t find a picture, but it involved a battery carrier-like device (pick up on the handle, it applies pressure to both ends). On one end was a muzzle, the other had a screw to tighten it...

I really, really wish I had a pic of my dog with his head out the window...right about 40 mph, his lower lip turns inside out and wraps under his chin...he (obviously) doesn’t mind at all, and looks hilarious...

Did you, by any chance, happen to read the original story for that movie in National Lampoon?
The movie was merciful compared to the written description.

Sick and cruel pictures that intend on hurting cat lovers and promote cruelty will be reported and hopefully deleted.

John Hughes wrote some incredibly funny stuff for the old NatLamp. P.J. O'Rourke, too.

I’m pretty sure that NL had a [bad] influence on me in my “formative” teen years.
My mother would’ve stroked out if she’d known what I was reading.
Some of it was laugh-til-you’re-sick funny...:))
A weird line from one of O’Rourke’s loon-fests is still part of my vocabulary, almost 30 years later.
Occasionally, someone will ask “What time is it?” and I’ll answer “Time has no meaning...and a narrow, purple beak.”
Then I giggle and they look at me like I’m insane.
That article was hysterical....I guess ya had to be there...:)

Had to go look:
“The screenplay was written by John Hughes, based on his short-story in National Lampoon magazine, “Vacation ‘58” (the screenplay changes the year to 1983). The original story is (reportedly) a fictionalized account of his own family’s ill-fated trip to Disneyland (changed to “Wally World” for the film) when Hughes was a boy. The success of the movie helped launch his screenwriting career.”
