The People Cry Out for Domestic Oil Drilling, But Democrats are Deaf
North Star Writers Group ^ | June 30, 2008 | Herman Cain

A recent Consumer Reports survey as reported on the Fox News Channel indicated that 77 percent of Americans blame Congress for our oil price crisis. This implies that the Democrats’ attempt to shift the blame to oil executives, OPEC and oil speculators did not work.

Seventy-four percent of likely voters, according to a recent Zogby poll, support oil drilling in U.S. coastal waters. And yet the Democrats blocked legislation in the Senate and the House several times within the last few weeks.

Congressman Lynn Westmoreland has gotten 183 of his congressional colleagues to sign a simple petition that says, “I will vote to increase U.S. oil production to lower gas prices”, and as of June 28, 2008, not a single Democrat had signed the petition.

One has to say that the Democrats have shown incredible unity on ignoring public opinion, online petitions, congressional petitions, thousands of e-mails and phone calls for the sake of increasing their chokehold on power in the United States Congress.

This will be the issue for the 2008 elections at ALL levels of Government. If the Dems hold their NO DRILL stance, then they will be soundly defeated in November in the Fed, State, and Local elections. Anyone associated with the Greens will have to answer for the high fuel prices, double digit inflation, high unemployment, and Stagflation that will be realized this fall.

The automakers are already reeling. Next will be the airline industry. After Labor Day, they will begin their RIF Reduction in Force) to up to 50% of the industry by November. Lots of pain headed this way.

The joke will be on everybody when after a year or two when drilling does happen their is no change in the price of gas.

I could care less about drilling, some people will make their money on it from the reality TV shows to the tool pushers, heck I live in Alaska and in some remote way I may benefit from drilling in ANWR but I doubt it, and I would never no way want to work there, too darn cold!!!

Facing reality can be tough especially for those too pig headed to look at facts and technology, there is alternatives.

Personally myself if I was POTUS I would go on a blitzkrieg and make the Middle East realize the world has had enough of this, first off I would blockade ALL oil coming out of that area to everyone for at least two weeks and play it from there.

Neighbor, I have been saying this all along in the posts I maintain here-- this is the issue, handed to those blasted "R's" on a silver platter.

Everyone in my little Southern city is raising Hell over $4 a gallon gas and $5 a gallon diesel.

And their air conditioning power bills.

The carpet store (!) down the street is selling motor scooters and mopeds as fast as they can get them.

And everybody I talk to wonders, "why the Hell aren't we drilling offshore, and onshore, and using our own coal?"

And yes, the talk about Plant Hatch, two cities to the west of here, nuclear, and running safe and cheap for 30 years is "why haven't we been building more like that?"

I just hope The Stupid Party doesn't blow this opportunity like they have so many others.

Because the phrase “alternative energy” means the DemocRATS’ favored alternatives not anything possible with exiting technologies involving oil and gas on federally owned land or on the continental shelf offshore. It’s like “choice” only means the right to eliminate a growth of “cells” in a woman’s uterus. Altertatives like putting a child up for adoption are not “choice”. Parents sending children to innovative schools not controlled by NEA union thugs is also not “choice”.

I am so afraid your right. There is so much more to this than what we pay at the pump. Many of us have jobs that will be severely impacted by the rising cost of fuel. I certainly do, being in the airline industry. Sad thing is, the Dems are standing in the way of anything that will help the economy prior to the election. A bad economy is good for them and they know it. They keep attacking the speculators, but the Dems are the ones that through their media keep the speculators in the buying mode, with these well timed expect oil to reach (fill in the blank) press releases.

Barack Obama says that if we approve drilling now, we won’t get the oil for another 10 years, so let’s not bother.

Gas prices have doubled in less than 2 years since the Democrats regained control of Congress. If they double every two years for the next 10 years, the price of gas will be $128 a gallon by the end of 10 years.

But Obama does not want to approve drilling because he won’t be around to get the credit when the gasoline finally makes it to the pump.

We can all apply that logic to, disease treatment, physical therapy, savings accounts, etc....since the payoff is down the road, why bother?

What a putz!

Yeah, those oil companies love spraying oil everywhere and coating square miles of pristine land and coastline with oil. They laugh with glee every time it happens.

and the Dhimmirats’ “solution” is to tax the oil companies and invest the money in “alternative energy”.

How long before “alternative energy” is a viable and widely used source?

How can I put some “alternative energy” in my gas tank?

First off, clear the chalkboard, and write in big letters:

then,

BY CONTROLLING YOUR ENERGY USAGE

Then, we can discuss why they’re doing what they are doing.

The Dems’ solution is the “failed policies of the past.” They’ve been blocking oil drilling for 35 years, relying solely on conservation and subsidies of alternative energy, and what has it gotten us? Nothing, except $4 gasoline.

McCain is the candidate of change on this issue. The mistake that McCain is making is that his proposal is so narrow that he’s left an opening for Obama to flip flop successfully. Obama could come out tomorrow and embrace development of oil shale or ANWR, and steal the issue from McCain.

You live in Alaska? Ever heard of the Alaska Permanent Fund? So i would say the “remote” way you benefit from oil is to the tune of about $600 to $1500 a year for every Alaskan citizen.

And just what alternatives are you referring to? Wind? Solar? Because i don’t remember seeing any wind or solar powered vehicles at the lot last time i was there.

DRILL! DRILL NOW!

When the oil industry is not able to adequately provide their product, oil, the lifeblood of the economy those responsible, the Democrat Congress will announce that the oil industry must be taken over and controlled by the federal government for the good of the people and the sake of the nation.

It’s a socialist set up!

I'd like to learn how to start a 527. I'd call it Americans for Energy Independence. Then run ads showing all the times the dems have prevented drilling here. Show the gas lines of the 70's.

Show various dems saying it would take 10 years to get the gas with the date they said it. Show how if we had started 35 years ago, we wouldn't have this problem. Show Obama saying he didn't want gas prices to go up this quickly. Have Al Gore and other dems calling for a fifty cent gas tax. I'd love to hit the American people over the head with the fact that the dems have caused this. And cause "environmentalist" to become a bad word.

Does any one know how long it takes to get something like this up and running. It would be great if the Republicans would hit them hard, but we all know that won't happen.

The rats say we can't drill our way out of the oil crisis we should promote “We can vote our way out of the oil problem”
The rats are the ones that stopped the drilling and building refinery's.We can thank the rats for our oil problems. All they can say is Big Oil . Do investors want to invest in a industry that is about to be taken over by Obama and the Gov.I don't think so.

Most of the people who vote Democrat live in cities and NEVER buy gas. Democrats representing suburbs and rural areas are the only ones at risk, and as bad as a lot of the Republicans are, this will probably not even be an issue since neither one will want to drill.

Where can I get a bumper sticker that says ....

At your house. You have a computer, and probably a printer. Make your own! Just use a word processor to compose, preview and print your "sticker". You don't need special paper, just plain paper. After printing, spray some clear acrylic spray paint on the printout to make your "sticker" waterproof. Cut your "sticker" from the page. Spread some rubber contact cement on the back of it for adhesive. I've seen those supplies available at the dollar store for a buck each.

The current strict environmental standeards now on the books are not intended to protect the environment, they are intended to contribute to the defeat of Capitalism.

These environmentalists are nothing but socialist in not very good disguise. They’ve simply put down the red flag and picked up the green flag.

A rose by any other name is still a rose.

A socialist who calls himself an environmentalist is still a socialist.

I heard an oil guy on the radio and he said w/o the environmental licenses and BS they could be drilling in SIX MONTHS. not 10 years! SIX MONTHS .

Those scum who say it will take 10 years said that 13 years ago and I hated it then but we would be 3 years into US energy if we had drilled then.

< How can I put some “alternative energy” in my gas tank? >

Exactly.

When someone mentions ‘alternative energy’, they should be stopped right there and REQUIRED to NAME THEM. If they say Hydrogen, Solar, Wind, Geothermal, etc.; they might as well say Magic Pixie Dust.

There are very good reasons we use petroleum, natural gas, coal, and uranium to satisfy the vast majority of our our energy needs. These are the closest things we have to ‘perfect fuels’. When you also consider the infrastructure we already have in place for gasoline, natural gas and electricity, there’s simply nothing else that can take their place in any practical sense.

To be practical, a fuel must be plentiful, easily distributed, and (for want of a better word) ‘concentrated’.

Example:
The gasoline that I fill my tank with was recently pumped up from a huge resevoir of oil, stripped of impurities and components too light/heavy, and sent to thousands of gas stations. A single tank of gasoline will move my 3+ ton SUV (loaded with people and stuff) 450-500 miles at 75 mph. I can pull over at virtually any freeway exit and fill-up in 15 minutes. A year ago, that fillup cost $80, in spite of the federal/state taxes imposed on gasoline. Nothing else will ever do this for the 300 million U.S. vehicles at anywhere near that price.

Example:
Can you imagine anything easier than digging rocks out of the ground? You then clean, size, and ship them in bulk. At the power plant these rocks are easily turned into massive amounts of electric power (rocks that burn!). Remember that ‘concentrated’ comment? A single coal-burning power plant provides electric power for 100,000s of homes. Can it get any easier than this? Actually, it can, see next example.

Example:
More rocks, but this time we do much more processing. But once that uranium is mined, enriched, and loaded into a nuclear power plant, that very same fuel will provide electricity for 20-25 YEARS. About 100 of these nuclear power plants produce 20% of the electicity consumed in the U.S. Oh, btw, these power plants have already been wired to our houses - we need only plug in and/or flip a switch to use it.

I could go on but you get the idea...

cheee
