Oh No, PUMA People! (Party Unity My A$$, the Anti-Obama Democrats)
Those Things We Say ^ | June 6, 2008

So there's an online movement calling itself Party Unity My A$$ that seeks to... I'm not sure what. It opposes Barack Obama and seems to oppose the Democratic party because "It is no longer the party of FDR and shared responsibility. Now, it is the party of wannabe rich libertarian Democrats."

I wonder what there problem is with libertarian Democrats. All we want is social freedom (the right to do mostly what we want so long as we aren't harming others), reproductive freedom (and in general the right to make private medical decisions) and equal treatment under the law (as with the right to same sex marriges). Why should any of that bother these people?

Given that Barack Obama and Hillary Clinton agree generally on the major issues, what are these PUMA people so worked up about?

And agreed that Obama won’t be elected regardless of what the old Clintonista hags do. ...and regardless of my reluctance to bother.

Huh? If Democrats were really “libertarians”, I’d be a Democrat. Oh well... As long as they screw up the Dali Bama, they’re OK with me.

“the right to make private medical decisions”

and force other people to pay for them and their consequences.

All we want is social freedom (the right to do mostly what we want so long as we aren't harming others), reproductive freedom (and in general the right to make private medical decisions)...

Add "social" to anything to make it mean the opposite of what it meant before. "Social justice" is theft. "Social freedom" is stricture, especially when it comes to dictating what others may do with their lives - carbon credits, anyone?

One notes that the "right to do mostly what we want so long as we aren't harming others" evidently doesn't extend to "private medical decisions" wherein one of those others ends up dead.

It's a perfect example of a liberal - not a libertarian - who claims allegiance to every nice-sounding ideal and resolutely ignores the fact that they do conflict. Only a child lives in a world without moral complexity.
