Freeper drzz has seen Indiana Jones 4 - AWFUL
le blog drzz ^ | 05 21 2008 | drzz

Today, at one past midnight, I have seen the latest Indiana Jones movie.

Like many among you, I presume, I was a fan of that American raider travelling all over the world to look for treasures.

A BIG warning : the latest Indy is absolutely AWFUL. This is the worst thing you can imagine. Actors are nuts, there are so many special effects even when Spielberg said he wouldn't use them, the screeplay is ridiculous.

This is a nightmare, and I really encourage fans to boycott it. This is a shame, far away from the original Indiana Jones trilogy.

Even Ford seems to not believe in the crap he is playing in. Not to say the ghost Shia Lebeouf, whose performance is pathetic.

The first 30 minutes are great. But when Jones begins to look for the Krystal Skull, all the movie collapses.

Beware, big failure ahead.

Mainstream media is supporting it only to support a failing industry like Hollywood. But this... thing should deserve below zero star.

Indiana Jones will be forever a trilogy, and this thing will be forgotten. Shame on Spielberg and Lucas to have produced such horror.

I watched a thing on one of the science channels the other night about "The Mystery of the Crystal Skulls" and caught myself laughing out loud at several points. The lengths the people went to to attribute some paranormal, spiritual qualities to the glass skulls was pathetically humourous.

Because of this, it's no surprise the movie is so bad. It's hard to make a blockbuster on such a flimsy premise. Even The DaVinci Code was better, and it was all trumpery.

The McGuffin is only terrible.

How Lucas (author of the Phantom Menace) and Koepp (author of the Lost World) are treating it is just unbelievable.

In the middle of the movie, you just think it is so awful you guess it is a parody.

I hope the die-hard fans will stand up and ask that this horror won’t be added to the original and brilliant trilogy.

Spell check is our friend.

It seems every two-bit screed behind a keyboard wants their 15 seconds of notoriety writing vapid reviews of potential blockbuster movies. Why do anonymous losers try to get their thrill in life by making others miserable? It is a loathsome trait. It wasn't meant to be the Second Coming. It's only a movie. We already went through this tripe with Star Wars fans acting like spoiled children who didn't get their candy cane for the day when they didn't like the prequels. If you want to wallow in your miserable viewing experience, fine. But leave the rest of us alone.

Sorry, that’s just your opinion of it. Point in fact, the vast majority of critics have hailed it and screening reception has so far been great.

Check out this thread on IMDB: http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0367882/board/flat/106432963

It has a near complete list of all reviews for Indy IV so far, plus ratings on RottenTomatoes (the top critics so far have given it 83% rating). So far 80 reviews are positive, 32 are negative for a total rating of 79% and a “Certified Fresh” on Rotten Tomatoes.

Also, from what I’ve read the film was given a 5-minute standing ovation at Cannes at the end of the movie.

So all of this so far negates your opinion of the film. I personally have no doubt it will be a good film. It won’t be Raiders of the Lost Ark or a masterpiece, but how many movies these days are masterpieces anyway?

Oh good. I wasn't the only one who saw that weird piece of crap on Sci-Fi. I had to turn it off after 30 minutes! The stupidity was overwhelming. Even the History channel at their best UFO craziness wasn't this insulting to your intelligence.
I was appalled, and it didn't bode well for the movie they were coat-tailing on. I was ashamed for the NBC reporter guy-Hester Whathizname- who was hosting this load of moonbattery pseudoscience.

I’ll probably see it but certainly not because of lefty critics. Why do they like it? Is it because the Soviets are not really portrayed as bad guys and there is a McCarthyism bogeyman in it? I guess I’ll find out later.

I watched a thing on one of the science channels the other night about "The Mystery of the Crystal Skulls"...

If it was the same one I watched, it was about Archeology and the influence the Indiana Jones series had on attracting young people to carriers in Archeology. That was the first part. Then, it went into these glass skulls and really trumped up a bunch of wackos who believed in their qualities. That's when I changed channels. It ruined the entire program.

When the premise ( “MacGuffin”) really sucks, I have trouble getting past that as well. Despite the critics, I got a feelin’ my reaction to it would be about the same as yours.

Harrison Ford is getting a little long in tooth to play an action hero.

Why do you have to try and spoil it for the rest of us? I should boycott the first Indiana Jones movie in 19 years because you said it was awful?

Take a hike.

I also have a hard time believing that you saw it at 12:01am today, since its being released at 12:01am tonight.

If you DID see it, it would have to have been an advanced screening of some sort which would not have the time requirements constituting a 12:01 showing.

And another thing, it also has a nearly 80% Rotten Tomatoes score. When the critics give 4 out of 5 good reviews to a big budget summer action movie (most of which they hate), its usually an indicator that it's at least enjoyable. Call me suspicious of your "review".

I'll be there at 12:01 tonight for the real first release showing.

Brilliant trilogy!?!

The first film was brilliant. The second was unwatchable and the third a self-referential walk-through.

Plot quality over time and it sounds like the fourth film follows the curve pretty well.

This Indiana Jones is full of Jar Jar Binks humor.

CGI are everywhere. The jokes are really bad and George Lucas put in the movie a lot of pets to sell puppets and LEGOs.

The stunts are done with CGI - no realism.

Believe me, it’s a nightmare. And I am a big Indiana Jones fan.

The French fans of Indy are mad. This is worse than you may think.

Leboeuf and Allen are awful. The script stops being interesting after the first half-hour and the final is just depressing.

Believe me, don’t hope a good movie, you will be disappointed. And I’m a huge fan of Indy.

Far worse. Some stunts are made for children, in the same way Lucas did in the 1st movie of the Star Wars trilogy.

There are good ideas at the beginning, but the 2/3 of the movie are awful.

Not bad, just awful.

I still don’t realize I have been waiting 19 years for this. So don’t take this as a man who hates blockbuster. I just love them. I love Indiana Jones and have seen the movies thousand times. But this latest has nothing to do with Jones. It is more a bad mix between the Mummy and Benjamin Gates, without a real screenplay.

I’m trying to warn people around me, especially Indy fans. They will go see it anyway but they will be prepared and not as shocked as I was.

No, believe me.

YOU just expect the minimum of an Indy movie, as I did.

You don’t expect what you gonna see. There are fans crying in the forums of France, and other are asking wether it would be necessary to collect signatures in order to avoid the “Kingdom of the Crystal Skull” to be part of the Indiana Jones saga.

I won’t spoil, so just remember these words.

Here is the Google translation of the comments French fans left on my blog : http://chfr.babelfish.yahoo.com/translate_url?doit=done&url=http%3A%2F%2Fleblogdrzz.over-blog.com%2Farticle-19752752.html&lp=fr_en&fr=avbbf-ch_fr

You didn't simply warn, you said "boycott" the movie...there's a big difference. That's an agenda.

You don't have any sympathy from me if you stay at midnight to watch a movie and you ended up not liking it. That's the risk you took.

You expected a lot? What did you expect? To have that childhood thrill you had 27 years ago with Raiders? Sounds to me like the problem is with your unrealistic expectations. It is only a popcorn movie, not Francis Truffaut. It is entertainment for a couple of hours. Even George Lucas said to just sit back and enjoy it for what it is. I expect to see a homage to the old serials of the 1930's, like Gene Autry's 'The Phantom Empire', have some fun, and a few laughs. That's it. I don't expect to have the deep philosophical enlightenment of Stanley Kubrick 's "2001" or the greatest action movie ever made.

Like I said previously, this is the same banshee cries the Star Wars fans laid out for all the prequels. It was nauseating then, as it is now. As Bill Shatner once said, "Get a life, will ya people." It's only a movie.

Well, I won’t argue with a fan. You believe I’m wrong, go ahead. Good luck. You have been warned.

The big thing between you and me is that I already saw it and I never thought I would like to get out of the theatre before the end of an Indiana Jones movie.

Let’s wait until tomorrow, when you will probably reach the same conclusion.

Mehanwhile, I’m gonna watch “the Raiders of the Lost Ark” to be reminded how Indy was pure fun, ONCE.

LMAO. Your credibility ends when you have to use the words "French press" to bolster your argument.

Rotten Tomatoes, which is an average of major reviewers from all over the country, is at 77%. And Box Office Mojo, pretty tough crowd, gave it an A-. Pretty high marks for the suckfest you claim it to be.

There are ALWAYS fans whining about the latest version, that’s part of having a successful franchise. The day you stop having people say it was the worst installment ever is the day no one actually went to see the thing. The question isn’t IF some people are going to say it’s the worst ever, it’s what percentage and do they actually have a clue. All the reliable sources say this Indy is at least OK, better than 2 and at least no worse than 3, clearly not as good as the first but that was never an option really.
