The Real Huckabee
Salt Lake City Tribune ^ | 1-27-2008 | Dennis O Dorrity Sr.

Posted on 01/29/2008 12:21:24 PM PST by unspun

I am disappointed in the tactics and statements of almost all the presidential candidates, both Democrats and Republicans. My grandmother used to say that you can tell just as big a lie with a half-truth and sometimes a bigger one.

Take the half-truths said about Mike Huckabee and taxes. I lived in Arkansas when he was the governor. He did away with the marriage tax penalty and the capital gains tax on the sale homes. He doubled Arkansas' standard deduction and the child care tax credit. He slashed the capital gains tax for both individuals and businesses.

In 2001, Mike took a lot of flak for refusing to raise taxes even with a looming budget shortfall. In response, he formed the "Tax Me More Fund" for people who felt that the government was not taking enough from their paychecks.

I like Mike and encourage everyone to reject half-truths and accept the real Mike Huckabee.

State Coordinator for Mike Huckabee

I haven’t chosen to support him but I would probably vote for him if he wins the nomination.

STOP, STOP, We don’t want to hear it. We at Free Republic are content to swallow what ever Rush Limbaugh puts on the end of his shovel, even if he’s feeding it to us from the pasture! We’re still pissed because Thompson was a coward and we got burned! It’s even harder to take because Huckabee killed Thompson in every debate and delegates. We just can’t take your optimism. Stop it now and let us soak in our misery!

Wow!

This thread has not already been destroyed with hyperbole and lies about Mike Huckabee— amazing.

At some point, the reactionary spirit of FR is going to meet a painful end. I think the ugly reality about this attitude is beginning to dawn.

All this logistical chatter about how issues determine legitimacy ignores the fundamental but disturbing reality of how style can dominate substance.

Obama’s style is attractive. Huckabee’s style is attractive. Apple’s style is attractive.

Its time to deal with this and stop pretending that the 10% of policy wonks in America really decide elections.

Huckabee deserved more of a shot from conservatives— because he is a conservative— flame away.

No thanks. Huck is joined at the hip with his good friend John McCain on supporting colonization by illegal aliens and forcing taxpayers to contribute to the church of global warming.

Here are the Senators who voted against the Cornyn amendment , which would have established a permanent bar for gang members, terrorists, and other criminals looking to snag a shamnesty visa. Republicans underlined:

Never forget McCain not only pushed the amnesty bill, he refused to allow exclusions for the worst of the lot. And he unloaded his infamous temper on his mild-mannered senate colleague for having the audacity to introduce this amendment.

While I regret some of you may be annoyed by what you feel is spamming this message on campaign threads, it is an important message on a key vote which needs to get out. Therefore, I've got to go with the overwhelming majority who is supportive.

Rush Limbaugh is so afraid that the FAIR-TAX would pass and make him look stupid that he is willing to lose this election to stop the Fair-Tax. Limbaugh is as much a lobbyist as anyone on Capital Hill. He has a vested interest in seeing the current tax code, as complicated and inefficient as it is, remain in place. It’s what he built his radio career on. Tax code reform and the abolishment of the IRS is the Third-Rail for Limbaugh.

LOL...

I knew it, it boils down to the Fairy tax. Tax evasion (oh I’m sorry it’s tax avoidance)sponsored by the federal Government...

It’s like dealing with a group of Amway members...

I would ask you to explain how the Fair-Tax is a "tax avoidance" measure but I'm afraid that the very insinuation and your use of the word "fairy" disqualifies you from the possibility of being allowed to discuss the issue with an intellectual such as myself. Your trite comments and grossly apparent ignorance of the subject is downright disturbing considering your presence on this board would lead one to assume your a conservative.

Yeah, didn’t start raising taxes for months after he got into office. Then, he turned into Tax Hike Mike.

Oh geez. You’ve moved from attacking anyone that is not a Thompson supporter to attacking anyone that is not a Romney supporter now? You just go with whoever is ahead in the Free Republic polls.

The “Tax Me More Fund” was brilliant. Huck’s a great politician.

Intellectual...

LOL...

Damn...

I have read the book twice son, as well as the comments of numerous of your FT sales team peers.

The comments they make alone expose why it is such a beloved scheme.

Get a grip, it will never happen. People are not going to let the cheap bastards of the world enjoy the same privileges and protections they do for nothing. Sorry you are stuck footing the bill just like the rest of us. If you're lucky the serious folks like me will get a flat tax done soon and maybe your share will be a tick less.

At this point, he likely has my vote. I do believe the race will come down to McCain and Romney, or I’ll have to vote for Romney to stop McCain.

Post of the Day.

Calvin Coolidge would not be elected in here in the early 3rd Millennium. Nor, Duncan Hunter, nor Fred Thompson. Abraham Lincoln, maybe. Theodore Roodevelt, maybe. Ronald Reagan, maybe. Mike Huckabee, maybe.

Huck did good last night.

The ill behavior of Romney at the last two debates has left Huck looking stable with self control even humor

Romney got in a tizzy with Mccain last night and even Ron Paul had to tell them to straighten out

Romney is not good on the spot but Huck seems to be

If Romney would just answer yes or no and then drop it

but his insistance at going after McCain made me lose interst and I just looked at the other 2 for entertainment

Huck was sitting there trying to act as though Romney wasnt having one of his embarrasing meltdowns

And Rom Paul was indignant Paul broke them up

Both Paul and Huck look presidential and Romney looked like a fool

Mccain kept his cool and I could tell he was use to Romneys outbursts

Huck doesnt have to do anything but sit and watch at the rest of the debates

Romney will help him win the nomination
