My mother is a feminist. A die-hard, take no prisoners, true-blue feminist. Armed with a hard-won PhD., she has made her life's work the counselling of the transgendered, the gay and the sexually confused. Honest work in which she is passionately invested. The only fly in the ointment is me, her conservative daughter.
I am as passionate a conservative as my mother is a feminist. It's hard to imagine two more diametrically opposing viewpoints. I view the current state of feminism as doing more harm than good. As undermining the traditional and family values that I consider the backbone of our country. On the other hand, my mother considers conservative values as outdated, invalid, and as having absolutely no intrinsic value.

How is urging men to reject the divesity of female life-companionship for a sex-and-more relationship with other men “feminist”?
And does her counselling of sexually confused men and women ever consist of urging them to approach with caution and not to make any mistakes they might regret? Experimentation is not always positive. And does “curiosity” automatically mean that someone IS homosexual or bi (even the hardcore homosexual crowd denies that anyone is bi, only a slut or someone afraid to fully come out of the closet would “be” bi they insist)?
Dear Nancy:
Avoid your mother at any cost.
Once the regime of She Who Must Not Be Named begins, your mother will willingly turn your name into the HillaryStaatpolezei, and you will be “reeducated”.
Either that, or you will be the non-consenting subject of a post-partum abortion.
Good read for the day before Thanksgiving as many of us prepare to spend the day with relatives who may disagree with us politically. I generally keep quiet about my views but it’s hard when my sister in law starts in on her Bush bashing. I’m proud that the photo magnet of President Bush haS been on my refrigerator since 1999. I left it up there when all the Iraq war news was bad and I still admire and respect the man. No, I don’t always agree with his policies but I believe that they come from an honorable place. Anyway, we’ll see what she pops up with tomorrow.
The radical left has fomented themselves into such a frenzy they might riot if they lose the election. I am not kidding, these people have become nuts.
I just hope we can watch the rioting on TV when, um IF, they lose.
I almost wish this next election would drive the left to seek a violent retribution - that way everyone else can see who they are and what they want to do.
And, as a side effect, the authorities get to bust some heads.
My mother was a left-wing, pro-abortion feminist, embittered at my father with good reason. Somehow they raised up a daughter who went Catholic and conservative with adulthood. (And I am a feminist, of the conservative, pro-life, traditional family values variety.)
My mother and I never let our differences come between us. She’s becoming more conservative too - much more traditional values now, limits on abortion - and turning into the lone hawk at her Unitarian church. She is supportive of my faith although she doesn’t share it.
Morgan is right; family is too precious to lose for politics’ sake. Keep the politics out of it, and yes, it does take effort on both sides.
The Left terrorized Republican voters in the 2004 election cycle. I don’t see why 2008 wouldn’t be bigger for them. It was a non-story in 2004 as they fired upon GOP offices, painted swastikas on signs and homes, slashed tires on dozens of “get out the vote” vehicles, cut power to GOP offices on election day, made Craigslist offers to “kick your ass” if you voted for Bush, school children beat up because their parents voted for Bush...
The Left is full blown psycho.
“Dear Nancy:
Avoid your mother at any cost.”
Sage advice, Sarge!
She ended up with a PhD. and a worldview that understandably included a resentment of men.
And I'd bet my hands that she still supported Bill Clinton.
My mother and I don't communicate anymore.
Wanna take a swing at who cut off the communications? Anybody.........anybody.......
On this coming Thanksgiving holiday, get down on your knees and thank the good Lord that your mother did not decide to abort you.
You dodged a bullet.
Not you, but the author.
Not likely. The CBS footage of the 1968 DNC riots is among the most expensive tv footage you can buy for inclusion in something (or at least it was when a filmmaker who looked into it talked to me of such things around 15 years ago).
The broadcast of the rioting will be kept to a minimum. As the footage of the 9-11 attacks disappeared from the public consciousness.
Well I commend you about your Dubya loyalty.
We’ve all gnashed our teeth in frustration but I truly believe Dubya will go down in history as a good president.
When I get impatient with Dubya I think of Willie J, his smirking smile, boxers or briefs, Monica, this country’s sacred oval office....
...there’s no comparison.
But they're nuts that advocate gun control and, most of them abhor guns.
Bring em on............
Naaa, just write them off as the nutburgers they are.
Frankly, I don’t see anything wrong with a woman being feminist. There are certainly lots of issues that feminists need to address, from workplace discriminations to Islam’s shameless abuse and torture of women. But your mom doesn’t seem to be all that interested in real feminist causes. Instead, she is devoting her efforts to the “transgendered, the gay and the sexually confused.” Maybe she is not a feminist at all. Maybe she is just one of the many 60’s refugees who “find themselves” in anti-societal anger and in a hopeless faith in “activism,” as if it were an end in itself.
So’s my mother in law. She currently has a book on her coffee table describinbg how 9-11 was a plot by Bush to send women back into the stone ages. It cites polls that say that more women have opted to be “at home moms” since 9-11, and that’s the basis for this author’s theory. I forget who wrote the book, but I remember it was some woman from San Francisco.
I would set ground rules first thing. You lover her and will not even listen to or discuss any broad social issues that could bring disharmony.
I think Nancy Morgan is right. I am much less likely to accept anyone's opinion that differs from mine.
Abortion wasn't available - if it had been, we probably would not be reading this article.
I had a number of interesting dinners with my late grandparents and my aunt. 3 liberals vs. me. It was like one of those politically unbalanced TV shows, like Deface the Nation. At one of these dinners, I actually called my aunt a socialist to her face. That didn’t help, and I apologized afterward.
I do appreciate ground rules. If I say anything to her though she runs to her mother (92) and they tell my husband and it’s a huge cf. I’m better off in the family (38 years) if I just smile and go into the other room. I remember once at Easter dinner my mother started in on me about me being a Catholic and how it would ruin her grandchildren. Happy Easter!! Well, I choose not to live in that pain.
Liberals color with many crayons. 'Feminism' is just one color. . .our of the Liberal crayon box.
My family is either all conservative or a few stupid
“mother in law” NOT “mother.”
NMy mother is a feminist too. She pationately believed in staying home, and taking care of her children. My wife is a feminist as well. These new age “feminists” are insane, nothing more.
Just a Susan B. Anthony kinda gal. :-)
A Class III weapon should take care of that.
I'll just stuff a few extra mags in my BOB, grab a couple of my M4's and my H&K USP Tactical and wait for the action to start.
They're going to start open civil war in 2008. We're going to finish it. With extreme prejudice.
What a terrible shame. Politics shouldn't split families like that.
But only in the MSM. There are now too many other outlets for the distribution of information.
Or a #9 loon mallet ;)

“CW2” is not just the rank of a junior Army warrant officer.
It’s common code for “Second Civil War”.
But what shall I take to the inaugural uproar and ruckus?
My bolt-action scoped 30-06 (classified by Rebecca Peters of the U.N. as a “medium range sniper weapon”)?
Or my ancient M1911A1 for close-in work?
Anyway, let the games begin. I abhor boredom.
;^)
Not to mention that we might get a chance to defend ourselves. That might be fun.
NO more calls, please.
We have a winner!
Remington 870 works for me.
Geez, I forgot my Remington 870.
Normally with walnut trap stock, extended fore-end & Cutts barrel. But easily converted to Pachmayr pistol grip & short legal barrel.
I then call it my “870 Python”. Good for serious social work.
;^)
So very true!
Amen.
I wonder how Nancy came to her conservative views. I would like her to write more about how she evaluated the values her mother obviously tried to instil in her and came to her own (opposite) conclusions.
I expect that there’ll be plenty of ‘opportunities’ for medium range sniper weapons.” No one can maintain a 300 yard perimeter forever.
For close-in, I’ll use the good old Benelli M1 Super 90 with slugs and 00 buck.
And the Rebecca Peters bit is telling. They want ‘em all.
Molon labe.
MOLON LABE!
Hey, wasn’t there a online pic of a good-looking gal taking dead aim, with that caption?
Kind of Greek lookin herself as I recall.
;^)
