President George Bush has repeated his belief all religions, "whether they be Muslim, Christian, or any other religion, prays to the same God" an assertion that caused outrage among evangelical leaders when he said it in November 2003.
Bush made the statement Friday in an interview with Al Arabiya reporter Elie Nakouzi.
Al Arabiya is Al Jazeerah's top competitor in the Mideast.
As the president and Nakouzi walked from the Oval Office to the Map Room in the White House residence, Nazouki asked, "But I want to tell you and I hope this doesn't bother you at all that in the Islamic world they think that President Bush is an enemy of Islam that he wants to destroy their religion, what they believe in. Is that in any way true, Mr. President?"
"No, it's not," said Bush. "I've heard that, and it just shows [sic] to show a couple of things: One, that the radicals have done a good job of propagandizing. In other words, they've spread the word that this really isn't peaceful people versus radical people or terrorists, this is really about the America not liking Islam.
"Well, first of all, I believe in an Almighty God, and I believe that all the world, whether they be Muslim, Christian, or any other religion, prays to the same God. That's what I believe. I believe that Islam is a great religion that preaches peace. And I believe people who murder the innocent to achieve political objectives aren't religious people, whether they be a Christian who does that we had a person blow up our blow up a federal building in Oklahoma City who professed to be a Christian, but that's not a Christian act to kill innocent people.

This is SO very sad. I was willing to give him the benefit of the doubt on some things, but this clearly shows a man of NO faith in the Christian sense.
Is this freaking guy for real?
What little respect I had left for junior is now completely gone. What a disgrace.
How can a guy be so right on the war on terror and be so wrong about this?Allah is Satan Mr.President, try to understand that one simple truth.
How can a guy be so right on the war on terror and be so wrong about this?Allah is Satan Mr.President, try to understand that one simple truth.
I am very glad we got Bush instead of Kerry, but dang. Bush can be a real idiot at times.....this is one of them.
Allah commands his minions to kill and die, to enslave and plunder, and to wreak vengeance and havoc for him.
Yahweh God came to Earth as Yahshua to die for us.
NOT the same God.
No they don’t!
The Islamic god is a god of blood and death.
The Jewish god is a god of revenge.
My God is a god of foregiveness and being non judgemental.
The President is a dangerous man...He is a danger to Christians...
SO a just God completely ignores the prayers of a billion people in the world because their understanding of just who and what he is, is completely messed up? I am not a Muslim but I am just asking is that what Scripture says and this is your God?
Bush is becoming a key component to ushering in the one world order. Once everyone believes all religions worship the same god, get prepared for seven years of hell on earth.
Dobson made the comment that Fred isn’t a christian without ever meeting or talking to him. What will he say about Bush’s comment? I’ll say it, Bush is not a Christian. He is a disgrace to the christian community.
The only way to the Father is through the Son. That is GOD.
What a moron.
Methinks Bush was just uttering what the audience wanted to hear... the audience being the Arab public.
Well, I'm halfway with you there. When Christ returns, there definitely will be some judgement going on:
It's been nicknamed "Scary Jesus." It's a colossal mosaic, 3,600 square feet, titled "Christ in Majesty" that dominates the space above the altar of the great upper church at the Basilica of the National Shrine of the Immaculate Conception in Washington, D.C. The Jesus in the National Shrine mosaic is a huge enthroned figure with muscular bare arms and fierce, frightening blue eyes. It's the Last Judgment, the "Day of Wrath," in mosaic form.
Remainder of article: Jesus: Scary Judge or Gentle Lamb?
You surely can’t be serious. The office is worthy of respect, even if you dislike the man. Even the Apostle Paul retracted his statements about a man who struck him when he found out it was the Sanhedrin.
Everyone’s so focused on Bush’s flaws that they fail to see that some genuinely flawed people are coming to the White House in 2009.
I ignore the statement; it’s true in the very broadest sense, in that there is only one God, and that people think they’re praying to Him. As an evangelical Lutheran, I know there is only one way to salvation. However, we elected Bush as President, not Pastor-in-Chief.
It is incumbent upon the President on the united States to serve and protect people of all faiths, and to enjoin the unity guaranteed by our Constitution. We pray for him and all our leaders, and give him the benefit of the doubt just as we would our neighbors. But we need not accept his notion that all major religions "pray to the same God."
It is one thing to claim exclusivity when it comes to addressing God. It is another to do so by threats and violence. Remember what befell John the Baptist who merely spoke the truth. The same thing may happen to those who speak truly of God today.
Fortunately this world is passing, and we look for the life of the world to come through Christ Jesus, Who is risen from the dead and lives and rules to all eternity on behalf of all who belive in His Name.
The piece uses a disgraced Christian leader to make an argument.
The media is getting so transparently propagandized, one can’t believe anything journalists say or write.
The only prayer he *hears* ( responds to) is from the christian that asks rightly or the unbeliver that asks for salvation, in repentence.
It is no surprise that he believes this way. Bush is proving to be a deist just as many of our founding fathers.
This deist theology is prominent in organizations such as the Freemasons. Praying to (Gaotu) Great Architect of the Universe.
Bush, as well as Clinton belonged to skull and bones in college....a secret society very similar to Freemasonry.
Way to many of his remarks seem aimed to please all that are watching. It would be nice to have a President again that could and would “shoot from the hip” once in a while (”The bombing begins in 5 minutes”). This “I’ve got to make sure I’m inclusive at all times” makes him sound moronic.
Bush needs to step down and turn the presidency over to Cheney. He favors Mexicans over Americans (besides his amnesty proposals for the millions of illegals, he is siding with Mexico on the Medillin case in Texas, where an illegal from Mexico - Medillin - and his gang-banging buds gang-raped and murdered two young teenage girls, a crime for which he was convicted and sentenced to execution. Mexico, of course, opposes the execution, and complained, and Bush is agreeing with Mexico and wants the perv’s execution stopped and maybe even have him granted a new trial!). That, and his stubborn insistence that islam means “peace” (it does not, it means “submission”) and that the god of islam is the same God as Christianity and Judaism just shows that he has lost all contact with reality and thus has forfeited his privilege to serve as our president. I like the guy, personally, and I’m sure he’d be fun to chat with and bike with, but he has blown it as president.
>>What little respect I had left for junior is now completely gone.”
Welcome home.
If that's the case, then why is it that those praying to Allah want to exterminate the chosen people of Yahweh?
Is God schizophrenic?
Bush jumped the shark. Moderate Muslims lay low because they know Jihadists keep a little black book, and the more we give in to Islam, the less likely that moderate Muslims will ever speak up. (We may believe in the dubious merits of multiculturalism, but they don’t.) “Me? Moderate? Never. Gimme that suicide vest. I’ll help strap it on my daughter.”
Thanks.
Just seems to me that the messages he repeated over and over were “Forgive” and “Judge not...”
This is “Moderate” talk, and it is exactly what
you get from “Moderates.” This is where Bush goes
completely wrong in his stance. It is the stance of
the Methodist church to which he belongs.
WE KEEP FISHIN FROM THE SAME OL POND, WERE GONNA KEEP CATCHIN THE SAME OL BIG MOUTH BASS.
Vote Conservative.....not the lesser of two evils!
Now is the time to make a difference. Pick the MOST CONSERVATIVE candidate and get behind him.
The hell with electability, this is a made up entity to weed out candidates that rock the two party system.
DUNCAN HUNTER 08
This is a repeat of a previous statement. “W” was without oxygen for longer than we were told when he choked on the pretzel while on vacation in Crawford.
He must have lost a massive amount of brain cells to have made such an uninformed statement and to have conducted himself the way he has since the incident.
I have never believed the man was saved, this proves it.
He is a phony that played the Conservative Christians for fools.
> SO a just God completely ignores the prayers of a billion
> people in the world because their understanding of just
> who and what he is, is completely messed up?
Most of the people in the world do not pray to Yahweh God, the God of the Bible; the Creator, the Sacrifice, the Resurrection, and the Life.
They pray to some demon, like “allah”, that commands them to perform acts of unspeakable evil.
Others pray to images made of wood and stone by the hands of men; images that cannot hear, or see, or speak, or think.
Those prayers are not directed to the God of the Bible.
“The President is a dangerous man...He is a danger to Christians...”
Indeed he is! Just ask the few remaining Christians in the Middle East and North Africa.
Not all that surprising considering the direction of the GOP these days. Looks like it’s going to get worse since so many are willing to vote for name recognition over right and wrong.
I’m dismayed that those here in FR can’t distinguish between “religion” and what “man does in the name of religion.”
Bush is right. There is only one God.
If some want to believe that God is asking them to kill people in his name, they are going to have to answer to those of us who will fight back followed by anwering to God who will surely set them straight.
He is either Biblically ignorant or he just is not a Christian.
And I would say that comment proves both are true.
It is however, an islamic act. Even if the Oklahoma city bomber was "Christian" that's one "Christian bombing" against thousands of Islamic bombings, shooting, shelling, and rocketing. There is no comparison except for propaganda purposes, Mr. President. Let's try a new track, Mr. President, speaking the truth. Let's try it for a month and see what happens.
Bush is a clueless dolt. The guy doesn't have any principles. If he read the Koran, he'd know that it preaches "peace" as a stalling tactic for only so long as it takes to build up your forces and acquire superior weapons.
Bush has been a great let-down. I'm glad I did not vote for him in 2004. If it had not been for the Swift Boat Vets, there would have been a Kerry victory.
I'm not sure Bush is "right" on the war on terror. I think maybe that Bush is giving his rabid "kill em all" supporters what they want in order to distract them from him giving his Mexican masters the control they want over the United States.
This isn't the first time he's displayed his ignorance when it comes to understanding global norms, customs and soevereignty. His vision for a "new America" began years ago.
| We are now one of the largest Spanish-speaking nations in the world. We're a major source of Latin music, journalism and culture. Just go to Miami, or San Antonio, Los Angeles, Chicago or West New York, New Jersey ... and close your eyes and listen. You could just as easily be in Santo Domingo or Santiago, or San Miguel de Allende. For years our nation has debated this change -- some have praised it and others have resented it. By nominating me, my party has made a choice to welcome the new America. As I speak, we are celebrating the success of democracy in Mexico. George Bush from a campaign speech in Miami, August 2000. |
Here is an excerpt of a good critique of that speech:
In equating our intimate historic bonds to our mother country and to Canada with our ties to Mexico, W. shows a staggering ignorance of the civilizational facts of life. The reason we are so close to Britain and Canada is that we share with them a common historical culture, language, literature, and legal system, as well as similar standards of behavior, expectations of public officials, and so on. My Bush Epiphany By Lawrence Auster
He is a secular globalist, like his dear old dad.
I don't believe we will ever again see anything but a secular globalist in the White House.
You couldn't get a strong pro-American Christian elected.
Reagan was the last.
There will be no more.
You can flame away, but it's the truth.
But doesn't God honor people's free will? Doesn't he let people experience the consequences of their mistakes? If God answered their prayers, they would have no incentive to abandon their "completely messed up" understanding of God. God ignores their prayers out of respect for their freedom and for their own good, as correction. Furthermore, God mostly ignores prayers anyway, so they're really no worse off than the rest of us. Thankfully God has equipped us all to make our way in this world without needing a lot of supernatural intervention. At the end of the day, we all get by.
Well, I know you have a pic of Bush over your bed, but.... I DID intend it for this thread. It show a pattern that was hidden from us: Bush's staggering ignorance of the true base of the conservative party and its desires.
Mr. President, how many people did Jesus Christ kill and rape during his time on earth? How many times did Jesus Christ CONTRADICT himself or the Old Testament? Jesus dies for all men and Mohammad kills all men who will not kneel to his version of the truth and YOU think these serve the same God?
BTW, if this IS a bush bashing thread why do you think it is?
Islam is not a religion in the accepted sense of the word. It is a geopolitical ideology posing as a religion in order to be covered by consitutional protections here in the US while it seeks to undermine and defeat us.
uumm, I'm not going to say anything that will get me zotted but...
I think President Bush is misinformed.
This is a kind of a "the Earth is flat" statement. And it does, in a Liberal sense, "equate". That is, all religions are equal, all people are equal, all countries and cultures are equal, everything everywhere is equal. All religions are equal. It is all about 'equality' and moral equivilancy.
GW has flipped. In some areas he is more of a classic 'Liberal' than Hillary or Pelosi.
I ignore the statement; its true in the very broadest sense, in that there is only one God, and that people think theyre praying to Him. As an evangelical Lutheran, I know there is only one way to salvation. However, we elected Bush as President, not Pastor-in-Chief.Very well said, and very very true.
And as Commander-in-Chief he is also Diplomat-in-Chief, since diplomacy is fundamentally an aspect of national defense, every bit as important as building tanks and stealth aircraft.
Diplomacy is part of deciding which battles to fight and when to fight them.
I know that there are some people here in FR who feel we should take on all 1.2 billion muzzies right now, but no responsible CIC would see it that way and Bush is right to say the things he says about the muzzies, even if some of them are patently untrue, such as Islam being a Religion of Peace.
WE are free to openly scoff at the concept of "Islam is a Religion of Peace". Our CIC is not.
Because people that never voted for him in the first place need affirmation? LOL
It also shows his lack of political savvy. He puts more emphasis in PR towards muslims countries than he gave to talking and selling the war to Americans. Same can be said for the economy.
