DUmmie FUnnies 05-20-07 (John Edwards Politicizes Memorial Day)
DUmmie FUnnies ^ | May 20, 2007 | John Edwards, HUffies, and PJ-Comix

It looks like the Breck Girl who amazingingly has declared that there is NO global war on terror has now stooped so low that he wants to politicize Memorial Day. Edwards has linked up with the Code Pink mindset and has now CALLED for demonstrations against the Iraq war on Memorial Day weekend. Even liberal Joe Conason has SLAMMED the Breck Girl for his blatant politicization of Memorial Day Weekend: "... it is neither kind nor smart to wave protest signs on Memorial Day." You can read Edwards' blatant self-promotion of his campaign by politicizing the Memorial Weekend in his HUffington Post BLOG titled, "A Deeper Purpose." A more accurate title would be "Ulterior Purpose," since he made this proposal in a pathetic atempt to appeal to the leftwing loons. So let us now watch John Edwards tastelessly politicize the Memorial Day Weekend in Bolshevik Red while the commentary of your humble correspondent, wondering if they soaked Edwards' brain in cucumber cream at the PINK SAPPHIRE Salon, is in the [brackets]:

A Deeper Purpose

[A Deeper Purpose: Pandering to the looney left.]

Memorial Day is a time of remembrance for those who paid the ultimate price for our freedom. My wife Elizabeth grew up on military bases around the world, as the daughter of an Navy pilot, and this holiday has always had special meaning for our family. This year, I am calling on all Americans to use their Memorial Day Weekend not only for celebration and time with family and friends, but also for a deeper purpose: to honor the memory of the fallen by acting, as patriots, to honor troops today -- to end the war and bring them home.

[First time a candidate has politicized Memorial Day in such a blatant way. Why not drop all pretenses and have us hold up Edwards '08 signs next weekend?]

This is a serious holiday and a serious time. The American people voted last fall to stand by our troops, end the war, and bring our soldiers home. The Congress has sent the president a bill that would fund the troops and bring them home. But President Bush has embarked on a stubborn path -- rejecting the will of the people and of Congress. He is not only continuing the disastrous war in Iraq, but is escalating our presence there and vetoing Congress's bill that would support the troops. It has become clear that the only way to support our troops and end the war is by direct action -- by democracy.

[A serious holiday which the Breck Girl is TRIVIALIZING by politicizing it.]

Some will say that this weekend is not the right time to ask Americans to stand together and tell the president and the Congress to end this war. They may say it is not patriotic, or that it does not honor the fallen.

[Some will say so much hairspray has seeped into your brain that you now join forces with the likes of Code Pink by politicizing Memorial Day Weekend for your own presidential ambitions.]

I strongly disagree. I believe that Memorial Day Weekend is exactly the right time to honor the memory of those who paid the ultimate price for our freedom, and to honor the troops serving us today.

[You believe Memorial Day Weekend is exactly the right time to grandstand for your campaign by politicizing it.]

It has been said that dissent is the highest form of patriotism. Mark Twain once wrote that the government must not "decide who is a patriot and who isn't." President Theodore Roosevelt went even farther. He said that to say there should be no criticism of a president is not only "unpatriotic and servile, but is morally treasonable to the American public."

[What did Teddy Roosevelt say about politicizing Memorial Day?]

As these wise words make so clear, democracy is a wonderful gift. But it is not free. On the contrary, democracy is also a responsibility. Brave Americans have fought for it again and again, and this holiday honors their sacrifice. There comes a time when citizens, acting together in a democracy, can truly force change. That time is today. And I do not want Americans to stand up and be heard because of any political campaign or ideology, or because they were told to. You should instead reclaim your patriotism for one important reason: it was yours to begin with.

[Believe me the ONLY reason you are calling for this is because of a political campaign: yours.]

This Memorial Day weekend, this means more than just getting in your car, driving to the beach, a parade, or a picnic and saying the words, "We support our troops." This weekend should honor the memory of the fallen through democracy itself. That's why I am asking the American people this weekend to give something in return for the sacrifice of the fallen -- to honor and remember all those who have gone before in service to our country, and to let our government know we want to honor our troops by ending the war and bringing them home.

[Will they get a Breck Girl fundraising request e-mail if they do so?]

I have offered Americans 10 suggested actions that will support our troops and end the war. These actions include sending our troops a care package, gathering in public to make your voice heard (taking a moment of silence beforehand to honor the fallen), organizing a prayer vigil, sending a letter to President Bush, and sending a thank-you note to our troops. In the days leading up to Memorial Day, we should take action to support our troops, end the war, and bring them home to the heroes' welcome they deserve. And on Memorial Day, we should honor and remember all those who have paid the ultimate sacrifice for our freedom.

[Suggestions from a moron who claims that there is NO global war on terror.]

It was only four decades ago that we found ourselves in a similar place to today. We were embroiled in an unpopular war, plagued by disparities and inequalities here at home, and looking for leadership in Washington, D.C. Reverend Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. called us to action with three simple worlds. As he put it then, there comes a time when "silence is a betrayal" -- not only a betrayal of one's personal convictions, or even of one's country alone, but also a betrayal of our deeper obligations to one another and to the brotherhood of man.

[In this case, John, "silence is golden," since you are sliming yourself with your pathetic call to politicize Memorial Day weekend.]

Martin Luther King's demands were not to the government of the United States. He issued a direct appeal to the people of the United States, calling on us to break our own silence and to not sit idly by and wait for others to right the wrongs of the world. Today, I'm again calling on our nation to break its silence -- speak out to end this war and bring our troops home.

[Politicize Memorial Day weekend.]

At Riverside Church in Harlem in 1967, Dr. King made another attempt to reclaim patriotism. He told his audience they had to move beyond "the prophesying of smooth patriotism" toward "a firm dissent based upon the mandates of conscience and the reading of history."

[So why don't you read some history and get a clue as to what Memorial Day is really about. Hint: It's not to promote your political ambitions.]

This Memorial Day Weekend, we should all take up Dr. King's call to action. It is time to take back patriotism from a president who has misused it to justify policies that have exacted such terrible costs -- from Guantanamo Bay to domestic spying to the War in Iraq itself. Let us reclaim patriotism for all of us who love our country, support our troops, and are ready to end the war -- and to bring these brave servicemen and women home to the heroes' welcome they deserve.

[It's time for you to take a hike, John. And now to hear from the HUffington Post HUffies...]

Please, please, please....be our next president. We need you soooooo bad.

[Glad you recognize this for what it REALLY is. Political grandstanding.]

How about a two pronged message, 'get out of Iraq' and 'no war with Iran'.

[And don't forget 'Edwards '08'.]

The quickest possible way to end this vile disaster the Bush clan started is to impeach Bush and Cheney and to ask the world community for help in cleaning up the mess these criminals created. As long as Bush/Cheney/Rice are in power the rest of the world is perfectly content to watch us twist in the wind. If we show the world that we are, indeed, a nation of laws and that we do indeed live by the values we profess to uphold they will be more than willing to help us out.

[This HUffie will be wearing his V For Vendetta mask this Memorial Day weekend.]

PAY FOR SOME AD TIME ON PRIMETIME TV EXPLAINING THE DEMS POSITION AND COMMITMENT. ALSO REMIND THE DEMS IN CONGRESS THAT THEY WERE PUT INTO OFFICE FOR ONE THING AND ONE THING ONLY TO END THIS WAR.

[A Memorial Day TV commercial proposal.]

The only argument anyone on Capitol Hill would respond to is one of violence, one of anarchy and even then, it's tough to tell. They don't listen to pretty speeches and they don't care about protests - all they know is that they're in power, and there is nothing we can do about it.

[Another V For Vendetta HUffie.]

Memorial Day is the perfect time for all of us to speak out. We should honor the soldiers by bringing them home. Edwards is showing leadership on this issue and because of his passion he just got my vote.

[This HUffie is so enamored of Edwards' politicization of Memorial Day that he plans to vote for him...and this was Edwards' REAL purpose.]

I will be handing out flyers on Memorial Day weekend urging people to call their representatives to tell them to stand firm on bringing our troops out of Iraq.

[Why not go all the way and hand out Edwards campaign flyers?]

You're a very well spoken lawyer.

[You're a very well spoken ambulance chaser.]

I am one of those servicemembers. Do not use the troops for your politcal campaign. The holiday is for those who have given their lives for this nation not you.

[It sounds like our troops are somewhat LESS than enthusiastic for Edwards' Memorial Day Politicization Plan.]

How do we take steps to end the war when there are so many liars and powerful voices against the people of the United States? Carl Levin, subtle and duplicitous, says he's against the war, but he's not. He's for a secret campaign to benefit Israel over our troops. People like me are seen as crazy, not partiotic.

[Yup. You're definitely seen as crazy.]

One would think that the people would be completely outraged and DEMAND that the BushCo criminals be removed from office and receive due justice.

[Don't forget to also wave your Chimpeachment sign on Memorial Day.]

This sounds like one of your tricks when you purported to represent NC. You came out of the woodwork every now and again, particularly at symbolic times and with spoon feedable symbols. You had perhaps the poorest voting record in the Senate, not showing up or abstaining. You worked behind the scenes to move forward the war. Now this?

[Bob Shrum has stated that Edwards was going to vote against the Iraq War Resolution in the Senate but then was talked into voting for it because the Breck Girl was convinced by Shrum that it would help him more POLITICALLY if he did.]

It has been said that dissent is the highest form of patriotism.

Actually it HASN'T, silky pony.
That leftist canard was proved FALSE when Ted Kennedy (IIRC) starting mouthing it.

In fact it ranks right up there with the 'Separation of Church and State' as urban legend numero uno.

WOW! I just had a big scare. I thought I lost my DUmmie FUnnies blog forever. What happened is that I went into the Blogger preferences and asked for the "Blogspot" URL to be taken off since I already have DUmmieFUnnies.Com registered at NameCheap where I have forwarding. Anyway. I took off the forwarding service at NameCheap after making the changes at Blogger and then...nothing. I hit the PANIC button bigtime and undid my new Blogger URL preference and then went back to NameCheap and set up my forwarding preference. I breathed a HUGE sigh of relief when it worked out okay in the end although I still have the same Blogger URL with BlogSpot in it. I guess it is the same result if you type in "DUmmieFUnnies.Com" and you go to BlogSpot anyways.

Believe me it is FRIGHTENING when you think you can lose your blog!

On a similar topic, I hope you all know that I have given Charles H. permission to take over my DUFU blog in the event of my demise. However, since there are LOOOOONG lifespans on both sides of my family (one great grandfather died at 92 from a fall he took while ice skating) that likelihood is in the far off future unless there is an unfortunate accident.

WOW! What was I thinking when I did that URL change (which I quickly changed back). Apparently the old link to BlogSpot editions become DEAD with the new URL. Better to KEEP the old URL and have URL forwarding to BlogSpot when someone types in DUmmieFUnnies.com. DOH! I should have checked out this info first. Bottom line. Don’t screw with your BlogSpot URL settings if you had your blog there a long time. Too bad they didn’t have this option when I first started there but the URL forwarding service via NameCheap sort of solves that problem. You can still access my blog by typing “DUmmieFUnnies.Com” in the URL address box.

This Memorial Day weekend, this means more than just getting in your car, driving to the beach, a parade, or a picnic and saying the words, "We support our troops."

"This Memorial Day weekend means getting in your car, driving to the protest rally with your fellow travelers, hoisting the campaign sign and shouting 'Edwards in '08! "

Let us reclaim patriotism for all of us who love our country

I think they need to find what the definition is first.

Definitions of patriotism on the Web

love of country and willingness to sacrifice for it

Patriotism is a feeling of love and devotion to one's own homeland

To show love, support, and sacrifice for one's country.
