Vatican II was a radical shift in theology, a turning away from the 1900+ years of Christianity that came before it. As to your strawman, a simple injunction to be civil could have been put forth without any necessity of validating non-Christian religions.
I consider my religion to be "very valid" - and, by the way, my soul was present at Mount Sinai when Moses received the Ten Commandments - yours wasn't!
A certain segment of Jews, Christians (Catholics, Orthodox, Protestants), etc. are anti war on terror/islam and attack the US's relentless and righteous support of Israel.
