Resolution introduced by George Sehlmeyer at the 1923 CA State Grange convention.
Regarding the Reapportionment of Senate and Assembly Districts
Whereas: The question of reapportionment of Senate and Assembly districts will soon be decided in California, and
Whereas: If such reapportionment is arranged by the Legislature of California, our larger centers of population will gain control of both the Senate and Assembly to the detriment of agricultural interests, and,
Whereas: An initiative measure placed on the ballot at the next general election will make it possible for the farmer to have a greater influence in determining this question, therefore be it
Resolved: That the California State Grange endorse the movement to place an initiative reapportionment measure on the ballot at the next general election, and be it further
Resolved: That the plan of the Federal Government fixing senatorial districts without regard to population be adopted and that we favor one senator from each county, and that assembly districts be apportioned according to population, and be it further
Resolved: That the State Executive Committee is directed to call a conference of the Farm Bureau Federation and the Farmer's Union to discuss this movement.
