A black cloud was lifted off Canadian-American relations yesterday: Frank McKenna, anti-American Canadian ambassador to the United States announced his resignation.
McKenna, in the diplomatic post for less than a year, was a harsh critic of the U.S. ever since his arrival in Washington.
One month into the job, he fired off a letter to Newt Gingrich for his reference on Hannity & Colmes regarding terrorists crossing over the border from Canada into the U.S.
Only last October, McKenna stunned a Toronto audience when he called the U.S. government "dysfunctional".

Perhaps there is a new posting for him in Haiti.
No dysfunction there, nosiree.
Maybe he can go back to New Brunswick and live off the government dole.
Already relations are getting better.
Beauty!
Get out Frank and don't come back!
McKenna who?
It's time to ask a fair question: is frank McKenna an anti-American bigot?
Canada Ping!
Please FReepmail me to get on or off this Canada ping list.
THE CONSERVATIVE PARTY OF CANADA:
"assisting parasitical Liberal hacks to find honest jobs since 2006"
Oh Yes, and what about Kim Campbell in California?
She might have been a Conservative, but she's not a conservative.
Good. The sons of b*tces are falling like flies.
Hey, not a bad idea. Haiti was hailed as one of the UN's successes in THIS THREAD yesterday. Seems like it'd be a natural.
McKenna is after the LIBERAL LEADERSHIP!! There is a method in this dicks madness!! He's got some baggage however. For one thing, Quebec hates him.
I was reading today that Tobin can't speak French.
I'm still thoroughly p*ssed that the Ontario suburbs didn't come through as we thought they would. I'd like to blow drug addicted Vancouver off the map along with Toronto and Montreal.
Then we have our crack whore Maritimes. What a dog's breakfast. I KNOW that the Harper team is very disappointed in the outcome but they are determined to work with it. Just the fact that Ignatiew (sp?) and Stronach got re-elected makes me want to vomit. Then there is Brison and BARF Graham etc. etc. My stomach has not been the same since this election.
As for the failures in the the big three urban regions, I have to agree with the multitude of bloggers and talking heads that most of this is due to immigrants who have come in since the 1970's. Don't get me wrong, I am by no means anti-immigrant or xenophobic, but even with the normal leftward lean you expect from big metro regions, what we've seen in the past 2 elections has been unusual. I guess that, having no experience with rural or western Canadians beyond what they see in the news, it is not surprising that these folks fall victim to the Liberal smear campaigns more readily than others.
As for Atlantic Canada, you pretty much nailed it. Government money is an addiction and the Maritimes are permanent addicts. As the place continues to languish, people who have some initiative leave to get good jobs elsewhere (like in Alberta) so it's a vicious circle.
I know tough decisions must be made but it appears that victory in several BC ridings was sacrificed in favor of trying to win some the tougher Montreal and TO ridings which IMHO are stacked for the Liberals.
But still the amount of power that the PM has in Canada is awesome when compared to a US President and the change in less than a week is huge.
PM Harper at 24 Sussex with a minority is a good start but he has a tough row to hoe.
The press will be unrelenting.
It's also fair to ask does Frank McKenna REALLY think he's Prime Ministerial material? Seems to me It's already in the wind that he wants to run for the Liberal Leadership next time!! UGH! That shouldn't be hard to beat.
You know what Heatseeker, I am becoming anti-immigrant NOW. It's ENOUGH already. Just drive through Vancouver where I lived 34 years ago and you'd think you just hit downtown China. I kid you not. The Liberals destruction has spread from Coast to coast!!
Hi concrete, I understand team Harper concentrating on TO ridings. That was important but he sure shouldn't have lost 5 seats in B.C. Truth is, the NDP picked up 3 of them and the Liberals 2. The old scare tactics work in an over unionized Province like B.C.
When I was an RN eons ago, there was no Health unions and the healthcare system was absolutely astoundingly better. There was never any such thing as a wait list then. The other thing that is hurting this Province is retirees from the East. I see this firsthand as I work with my Lawyer husband (he does business law) and we do a lot of conveyancing and land transactions. We are handling TWO new deals from folks moving here from Toronto just in the last 3 weeks. It's been continuous for about 4 years now. My problem with it is they bring their Liberalism with them too. My husband says, some of them have to be Conservative.
