Toronto-- Long harboured Canadian resentment of Canada being annexed by the United States took a 90-degree angle on July 1 with Frank McKenna, Canadas Ambassador to the United States, turning the tables. McKenna says he will organize the more than 1 million Canadians in the United States to lecture Americans.
McKenna, whos already sent messages to 6,000 expatriates, intends to get in touch with 100,000 of them by weeks end. The rookie ambassador is pressing the "Canadian diaspora" to arm themselves with facts, to debate Americans and to get out and lobby when Washington makes decisions that can hurt Canadians, says the Toronto Star.
Fighting the U.S. on its own soil, albeit by stealth, McKenna is calling to action Florida snowbirds, northern exiles in Arizona, Hollywood comedians and actors, investment bankers in New York and professors and students at universities across the U.S.

Happy 4th of July! Celebrate freedom twice as hard for us conservatives and libertarians trapped in Canada.
apparently the good ambassador doesnt realize that they are in the US for a reason....
Will the EPA let us heat that much tar all at once?
And do we need a feather permit?
SO9
He obviously isn't.
Past time for him to go home.
SO9
What you should do is remind your countrymen of the liberal British newspaper that set out to lecture Americans and convince us to vote for John Kerry. Even liberals turned on them.
This will blow up in their face.
yeah if he doesnt like, he CAN go home. We won't stop him. Hell we might even pay for his plane ticket :)
Nah, why bother?
We should just tie him up, throw him in the back of a pickup truck, drive him to the nearest border and *THROW* him back across.
That's quite alright. We're not exactly shaking in our boots at the prospect of being lectured at by a bunch of non-voting leftists. In fact, usually when leftists start a public debate they get more of a debate than they bargained for. That's why they tend not to do too well on talk radio.
we could do that too, but I am a non-violent person ;-)

When was Canada annexed? I must have missed that one.
I know it will. That's what makes this both hilarious and tragic at the same time.
They've been culturally annexed. Except for Quebec, Canada pretty has no national culture of its own. And the rest of Canada isn't too keen about Quebec right now....
Culturally and economically. 76% of Canada's trade is with the US and 25% of the US's trade is with Canada. Other parts of Canada have their own culture, but they're either subdued at the moment, or purely regional/local.
Better they should "lecture" each other ~ after, of course, cutting stout switches from the nearest tree!
Well, maybe not. They'd like that.
This is a joke, right?
Right????
*protects his tender backside* Not all of us would. *grabs his shotgun* Now you stay in front of me where i can see you, partner. *narrows eyes* And drop the birch switch.
The ambassador is misinformed: the problem isn't organizing Canadians to lecture Americans, it's getting them to STOP.
No. In other news, I am looking to acquire an American citizenship in about 5-10 years time. Let me the hell out!
*******to get out and lobby when Washington makes decisions that can hurt Canadians,
well, at least it didn't take a 180-degree angle... (sounds like the education system in Canada is no better than the US system!)
they definitely won't lecture us in either math or journalism!
Ah, ha, a Canadian who knows what kind of switch to use ~ experience tells all.
Well, a 180 would be good for conservatives and Americans. A 90 degree in this case just means an unexpected turn, a flank attack so to speak.
No, that's the Canadian canoe test. You see, the trick is to keep your weight against the bulwarks and her weight...Oh, wait. Not in public, right. ;)
It's even worse living here. The constant anti-Americanism gets really old, really fast.
The other day we were at the Canada day fireworks and a little boy behind me said, "Vive le Canada! Boo Les Etats-Unis!" I looked at my husband, sighed and rolled my eyes.
Why does Canada have to define itself by criticizing the U.S.?
Guess your compatriots are about to get a real ass whupping if they aren't careful.
I have a neighbor who is An ER doc like myself who is from Canada. Always lecturing about how superior Canada's health system is. One day at a meeting of local EMS chiefs I couldn't take it anymore and finally asked him, "Cyril if it's so great in Canada, why do you suffer so by practicing here?". He got very red in the face and just sputtered. The reason is clear, he makes a much better living here then he would in the Great White North.
Well,
"Long harboured Canadian resentment of Canada being annexed by the United States..."
At least they get to keep their British spelling of "harboured"...
That and the relative freedom from bureaucracy.
I've noticed that Canadian culture is much more like that of Prince Edward Island than any other place on Earth.
"beady eyed, head floppin' Canadians"
present company excepted.....
No offence taken. South Park criticism deemed valid.
Wow, this is amazing. Some ambassador. I thought an ambassador's job was to improve relationships?? I guess he's getting revenge for Paul Celluci--a lot of Canadians thought he was critical of Canada.
Canada is a beautiful country, but there's not a day that goes by that I don't miss the U.S. And a lot of that is due to the constant America-bashing I have to live with every day.
Good luck with your citizenship!
"Way to go, Canada's ambassador to the U.S." ping.
PEI has it own unique culture. Newfoundland and Nova Scotia too. So does Acadia, Quebec, Northern Ontario (even middle Ontario, by which I mean northern south Ontario), Alberta, Manitoba, Sakatchewan and BC. Cape Breton, etc. etc. The problem is, these are regional, or even worse, local cultures. Canada has no positive unifying and self identifying national culture, nor does Toronto and southern Ontario really have their own unique culture.
Couldn't resist.
By coincidence, that was the last thing I saw as turned off the tube last night.
"Shut yer F'n face, Uncle F'er"
Because you get a VAST percentage of your uranium, oil, gold, wood and other raw materials from us. ;)
It's still a big ol'PEI. Only difference is the Doultz in Nova Scotia is cheaper, and maybe a tad better, but I'd have to test quite a lot of it to see.
Very nice, by the way. I had a great political discussion with two Quebecois liberals. One of Italian descent, one Chinese. Both liberals.
They were both on me about how America is seen as a bully. The Italian guy was telling me about how he had recently visited France, and that he was surprised at how much the French "don't like America."
At that point, I had an idea. I turned to the Chinese guy, and said "Do Taiwan people like China?"
Completely derailed the argument. At that point the Italian guy started going at it with the Chinese guy about Taiwan, and then (imagine my delight) about Tibet!
I've never handled a political discussion with liberals so well, I must say. Understand, I didn't want to talk politics at all. I just wanted to relax. They started it, as soon as they found out I was an American.
(steely)
Hmmmph! Sounds like this jerk is taking lessons from Fox.
Keith's. Cheaper than water around there and a great flavour if you like the thin, big flavoured lagers. PEI culture is quite unique, I assure you. It's great. But most of Canada isn't like that.
True enough. But annexing Canada would mean we'd annex a whole passle of really venomous DemonRat votes to the Senate and to our elections. Ugh!!
You could always make us a territory, like American Samoa or Puerto Rico.
libstripper posted "True enough. But annexing Canada would mean we'd annex a whole passle of really venomous DemonRat votes to the Senate and to our elections. Ugh!!"
By my calculations, less than 5 million Canadians voted Liberal in our last election. If Dubya could spare maybe 2 million Republicans for a few years, we might be able to get Canada going on the right track.
First post by the way, happy 4th of July to all you Freepers!
Dat and we spell things the wrong way, eh?
Those who live in Massachusetts should not mock others' accents or spelling. ;)
I think it's better that you're an independent country. My Napoleonic urges have long ago been satisfied.
Happy Canada Day! (a few days late).I spent some time at a Canadian facility of our U.S. company. The Canadians always knew better than to schedule a meeting involving travel or participation by U.S. personnel on July 4. They are often blindsided by Patriots' Day, however. (As is the rest of the U.S.)
