Congressman Says Rove Planted CBS Memos (Maurice Hinchey (D-NY))
Little Green Footballs ^ | 2/20/2005 | Little Green Footballs

Posted on 02/20/2005 3:59:32 PM PST by MisterRepublican

Yesterday Congressman Maurice Hinchey (D-NY) hosted a community forum in Ithaca, New York, on The Future Of Social Security.

An LGF operative was present in the audience and happened to be recording as Rep. Hinchey launched into a barking moonbat conspiracy rant worthy of Democratic Underground, telling the audience he believed the fake CBS memos were planted by Karl Rove to discredit Dan Rather, and divert attention from President Bush’s “draft dodging.”

When our operative asked Hinchey if he had evidence for these charges, he first said, “Yes, I do,” but when asked a second time he admitted he did not.

Our operative pressed the issue, “Don’t you think it’s irresponsible to make charges like that?” Hinchey replied, “No, I don’t, I think it’s very important to make charges like that ... I think it’s very important to combat this kind of activity in every way that you can, and I’m willing, as most people are not, to step forward in situations like this and take risks.”

And the crowd burst into applause and cheering.

This was in Ithaca, so the fringe was the mainstream in that venue.

You lousy rats....Rove doesn't have to stoop to your level...ya'll lost without Republicans using any of the kind of tricks the you (rats) use. President Bush was re-elected fair and square.

Liberal loons continue to be delusional...as long as they continue with this type of thinking....we republicans will continue to WIN....we own the senate, house and most governorships...that should tell you something. SORELOSERS

Congressman Maurice Hinchey In Ithaca, a Voice Of Dissent
by Dan Barry

"ITHACA, N.Y., March 29 — The other night was Joan Baez, and tonight there will be gay and lesbian choruses. But Friday night the main feature at this small city's majestic State Theater was a congressman in the prerequisite gray suit, standing alone at a lectern and talking about geopolitics, oil and war.

He wowed them.

He said the war against Iraq was wrong, illegal, a tragedy. He said President Bush had deceived people and was stifling dissent rather than embracing diplomacy. He said that he had explored the prospect of impeachment, but that the time was not right, at least not yet."

IIRC, "wold" is an archaic Anglo-Saxon term for a particular type of terrain, related to Ger. "Wald" woods as opposed to "Forst" forest.

In this case I was referring to my typo for "would."

Thanks for playing :) I now return you to your regularly scheduled thread :)

Yeah, there are those little itty-bitty problems that first of all, Bush hasn't done anything wrong, and second, the GOP controls the House. So I can see why the time isn't right.

What a fool.

I think it is terrific that Little Green Footballs has "field reporters" as it were. Folks who don't know the history of the "free press" for whom the First Amendment was written.

The Colonial and early American newspapers printed stories from beyond their own cities by borrowing (without payment) stories from outside newspapers that came in my mail, or by printing letters from outsiders as if they were correspondents. (That's what they were, literally, since the word originally meant people who exchanged letters with one another.

Bottom line: substitute e-mails for letters, and blog sites for newspapers, and what you see LGF doing here is EXACTLY how original newspapers like the Brunswick Gazette (one of my favorites) reported the news in 1787.

If the people at the Columbia J School had a clue about the history of their profession, they would note this parallel, and applaud this development. But they don't, and don't.
