Please post a vomit/? alert for something like this in the future. I'm crying profusely as I type.
"The last words he spoke just before his mother drowned him in the bathtub was: Mother, have I done something wrong?"
Oh my, I am a man, but that makes me want to cry like a baby. I cannot understand how someone could murder a child, especially there own. I am going straight home and give my eight year old son and big hug and kiss.
All the jury did was correctly apply Texas state law regarding the insanity defense. However, they did show her mercy because she could have been given the death penalty.
I know I will get flamed for this as I have in the past.
Andrea Yates is insane. Her husband knew she was insane. He continued to get her pregnant and forced her to homeschool the kids, knowing she was insane. He forced his family of six to live in a converted school bus in Florida until he finally secured a job in Texas and an actually dwelling for them. He made a few lame attempts to get her treatment, but still left the children with her when he knew she was in a downward spiral. He isolated her from friends and family throughout the whole marriage by not letting her work or drive or be around her family.
I am not excusing what she did, by any means. Rusty Yates is no prince and is as culpable in the deaths of those babies as their mother.
I hadn't looked at it like that before. I think you may have a pretty valid point.
no flaming from me--my thoughts exactly
Thank you. I have had clients like Andrea Yates when I was a practicing Psychologist and they do not get better.
Tack on the refusal to take medication and you have a recipe for tragedy.
Thank you.
I agree SHE is ultimately responsible but he bears some of the guilt for the deaths of those babies.
In my opinion, he certainly does. Did you know he recently divorced her to marry a new honey? I shudder to think of it. The man has shown no understanding of his role in this tragedy.
Frankly, it's too bad their mothers didn't exercise their drowning privileges.
And more than likely this woman is not a stable person either.
I can't imagine a woman in her right mind wanting a relationship with such a controlling man.
We may see him in the news yet again in the future.
*sigh* I fear you are correct.
I agree.
Thanks, Sandy. You would not believe the whipping I took on here for even suggesting this when it happened.

You won't get flamed by me, that's a very accurate summation. Good ol' Rusty's behavior at his childrens' funeral was enough to chill anyone. Her family needed to do a major intervention, but how does a family do that with a psychotic daughter enslaved to her husband?
Only if the definition of the word "compassion" is the same as it would be in the case of a rabid mad dog.
**grin**. I recall that thread. Yikes!!!
It's a good thing I am steely, eh? ; )
