Actually it could happen. A friend of mine who has been married for 20 plus years recently divorced and his wife who had been in the military and who was born in England to an English mother, and who never bothered to become a naturalized US citizen... is going to have to go back to England even though... So yes technically - yes - it could very well happen because it is happening to a friend of mine’s wife. Not that it’s a bad thing, it’s just following the letter of the law. Now, if a person becomes a naturalized citizen that would not necessarily happen. Or what about a dual citizenship? Then perhaps it wouldn’t happen as well... I’m not sure of all the technicalities involved but I know firsthand, well actually, secondhand that the case is and has been made that she (my friends divorced wife),is going back to England.
