MH-17 Shoot Down Alters Air Force’s Space Equation

Russia builds all of the rocket engines that deliver U.S. military satellites into space. Gen. William Shelton, U.S. Space Command, said Tuesday the recent missile attack on Malaysian passenger jet that killed 298 people will not result any change to this (crony driven, United Launch Alliance) RD-180 engine arrangement.

Space Exploration Technologies Corp., SpaceX, has sued the Air Force for the oppertunity to compete, for contracts that provide lift to military and intel satellite. Right now, only ULA is allowed to "compete" for the $9 billion Engine project.

//Snip//

Russian Deputy Prime Minister Dimitry Rogozin threatened in May to cut off sales of the RD-180 engines following the announcement of sanctions imposed on Russia by the US.

We don’t build heavy lift engines.

We build the second stage engines.

Darned Right it is a bummer.

We could design and build the Saturn 5 booster in the 1960s with slide rules and hand operated stick welders.

Now in the modern day with Computer Aided Design programs and computer operated welding machines we depend on a foreign country to provide us with a heavy lift rocket engine. .

Where is your pride America.

The fact that we no longer make our own rocket engines says so much about how our government has screwed up our economy.

Now that the president needs Russia to be our enemy again (to get our minds off healthcare and open borders), it does make sense to start building our own engines - but then again I don’t see much urgency by this bunch.

The stupidity of this situation just amazes me. Once upon a time, the US Government actually CARED about the American industrial base. No longer. And I fear this is the tip of the iceberg. Who knows what critical infrastructure we’ve outsources to former or potential enemies, including Russia and China. All in the name of saving $$. The shortsightedness is just inexcusable.

It's so stupid that the stupid collapses on itself, an event horizon forms, a singularity is created and nothing can escape.

Jeff Sessions and most of the Alabama delegation are actively working against SpaceX because ULA builds their stuff in the state.
