FULL TITLE: Walmart security guard shoots 'shoplifting' mother dead in parking lot as she tries to escape with two young children

A 27-year-old mother of two has been fatally shot by an off-duty sheriff's deputy after he suspected her of shoplifting at a Houston Walmart.

Harris County Sheriff's deputies have said that victim Shelly Frey, Tisa Andrews and Yolanda Craig were stealing when they were confronted by Louis Campbell a 26-year veteran of the force who works as a security guard at the store.

According to Campbell the women ran to their car and when he rushed to open the door, they accelerated away - at which point he fired the deadly shot into the car which hit Frey in the neck.

Security at the store on the 14000 block of the North Freeway had noticed the three women 'stuffing items inside their purses' and notified Campbell, who was working an extra job that evening.

Investigators with Harris County said the three women even attempted to pay for some small items to act as a cover for the shoplifted ones.

Frey wasn't even supposed to be at a Walmart that evening.

Earlier in the year she pleaded guilty to stealing shirts and a package of meat from another Walmart and as part of her plea arrangement she agreed to never enter Walmart stores again.

She must have thought it was a Sam's Club.

Geez, here we go again. She wasn’t shot for the mere act of stealing.

Here’s the story from the previous long thread - the three women were spotted stealing in Walmart by an employee - the employee notified the deputy/security - as they were leaving the deputy tried to stop them at which time the woman (who later died) hit him - the women exited the store to a “waiting car” (don’t know why it was “waiting” but sounded like the kids were left in it - such responsible parenting), the women got into the car and the deputy again tried to get them to stop and get out - the deputy was standing in the driver’s opened door - the driver (not the one who died) sped off dragging the deputy at which time he fired hitting the woman who had hit him - during the dragging his shoes came off - the driver did not care enough about her friend to take her to the ER but drove home where they let her “bleed out” - the woman shot was still alive and she or one of them was able to explain what had happened to a neighbor - the EMS/Fire Dept. arrived and worked on her but she died - the driver is in jail for robbery and assault with a deadly weapon aka the car and the other one in jail for robbery - the dead one has a history of theft and was court ordered not to set foot inside a Walmart - the children they brought with them on their crime spree are with relatives - Texas law is if someone dies during a crime those perpetrating the crime are all (the two women) are charged with murder - Walmart has video.

She was in her car trying to get away. If I read correctly she was headed right for the officer.

Good shot as far as I am concerned. She was nothing more than a common thief.

She lived by the sword so she died by it.

So tell her mommy and daddy to stfu. They did not raise her any better now they are crying that she died a common criminal?

There is no basis for a lawsuit, especially in Texas.

The perps were obligated to stop, and placed their own lives at risk by running.

I, for one, would sentence him to death for killing a person that “might” br guilty pf a shoplifting charge.

More accurate title:

Off duty cop shoots shoplifter as she tries to drag him to his death.

She did manage to drag him out of his shoes...

>> “Getting shot for shoplifting is a bit over the top” <<

.
There are people in California doing 25 to life for shoplifting as their third offense.

Do you by any chance come from a habitual crime family?

She did.

Yep. If you’re a chronic felon in California we want you to clean up your act or take your felonious ways elsewhere.

“’Shelly was the perfect mom, perfect friend, perfect daughter,’ said her father, Shelton Frey.”

Sorry; it would seem that is blatantly false. I tire of these post-mortem rapsodies.

“He said that his daughter had moved to Houston after Hurricane Katrina”

I KNEW it, as soon as I saw “Houston” and “shoplifting woman” - I just figured. These guessing games are just too easy.

Obviously you’re an Obama victim/voter.

The crimnals are responsible for all that unfolds in the commission of their crimes. They (the survivors) will do time for murder.

It was a “Must shoot” situation, although he should have targeted the driver first.

He’s in no trouble at all.
