This month, the Obama campaign sent out hundreds of staffers and volunteers to gay pride events around the country in order to sign up more volunteers, reports the New York Times. “Pride is probably the best opportunity to engage the community in large, concentrated numbers,” Jamie Citron, the national L.G.B.T. vote director for the Obama campaign, said to the Times.
About six weeks ago, President Obama became a supporter of legal gay marriage.

[H]undreds of Obama field staff members and volunteers…fanned out at a dozen gay pride celebrations across the country over the weekend with a meticulous set of marching orders from the Chicago campaign headquarters: Get names, cellphone numbers, and e-mail and home addresses. But most important, get commitments to volunteer.

They can recruit all of the queers in the country to vote for Obama, but I doubt their work will get much of an endorsement from Straight people.
