The coaches and officials who allow this “technique” ought to be horsewhipped. The kid ought to be told in no uncertain terms that those in authority over him and the sport have exhibited wildly bad judgment and that such a thing is never to be done (outside of sodomite bath houses), but otherwise let alone.

Call it whatever you want, it still boils down to rolling around on the floor with another guy. What is it about grappling with a sweaty, stinky man that appeals to him?

Personally, I enjoy rolling around on the floor with women— they are softer, smell better, and are a lot more fun regardless of who ends up on top. ;-)

My husband was a three time All-American wrestler (HWT) in college. There is absolutely nothing that is “DADT” about the sport. It is an intense battle and the guys who do this are the most masculine guys around.

OK, let's put it this way: if you were a guy in high school or college, and you were gay, wouldn't you be eager to try out for the wrestling team?

I was hasty in that comment...I typed it while still very indignant for I am VERY proud of my husband. I absolutely adore him. I don't think anyone who is not a wrestler can possible understand how hard it is. One “plays” other sports, wrestling isn't fun, but winning is. So to have this type of grueling competition be compared to the perverted and vile act of sodomy or be called a sodomizer grates on the nerves of wrestlers and the women who love them :).

You were right about one thing, they are always cleaning one thing off the mat: blood.

Linked from Drudge, the kid's been expelled and permanently banned from school district property, unanimous school board decision.

It'll take the sport of wrestling 20 years starting from now to recover from this or become respectable again, if it ever does (at least amongst the heterosexual).
