Laura Ingraham adopts
radio | Hildy

Posted on 05/08/2008 11:06:56 PM PDT by Hildy

I'm surprised nobody posted this. I rarely listen to Laura, although I always enjoy when I do. Today on her show she announced she has just adopted a 3 year old Guatemalan girl. Just a little late night nice story. I'm so tired of the other ones...

Go on her webiste...lauraingraham.com and there’s a picture of the little girl. She said it’s been in the works for over 2 years! She didn’t want to talk about it in case things went wrong.

I really like Laura, and no doubt this is the greatest thing for the little girl, but why adopt without a father? Why do conservative women like Laura and Ann insist on living husband-free?

She’s of a certain age...doesn’t see any prospects. I’m sure surviving Cancer gave her a new perspective on life. She rescued this child from Guatemala..not a baby, mind you...a toddler. She did a wonderful thing. Let’s leave it at that.

And if she’s looking for a daddy...

Apparently Laura was close to marriage a few years ago but the guy dumped her when she got breast cancer. Sounds like he was a real winner.

As much as I value Laura, it seems a bit self indulgent for a cancer survivor with a 100 hour per week job, no husband, and a busy travel schedule to adopt a child that age.

I don't know the full story but after reading Power To The People, I got the impression that the man who was going to marry her dumped her when she got cancer. Instead of supporting her in a dire time of need, he kicked her to the curb.

Frankly Laura comes across like a ball busting American woman lots of men find unappealing.

She's attractive but has a takes no prisoner attitude.....not enough femininity in her personality for my taste.

Michelle Malkin is an independent American woman who has a feminine, softer side that comes through; probably her Asian roots that temper the manly edginess that too many American women suffer from.

Yes, when she announced that she’d been in Central America AND had a major announcement, I knew she had adopted.

She had worked down there as a young adult, and her cancer treatment affected an earlier engagement and ability to conceive safely.

Given her warm heart and values, it was easy to conclude this, just in front of the actual details.

Because a Guatemalan orphanage could do a lot better? If they had high placement rates I might agree with you, but that isn't the case. Female orphans in third world countries generally have far more to worry about than a lack of quality time.

I hear you, but we don't really know what Laura's schedule will be now. I know mine changed dramatically when we had our first child.

All that we know is that she is not married. Last time the man left when the cancer came, and it all happened very publicly. For all we know, she might have a long-time man or even a fiance.

Everybody says he left when she got cancer... For what it’s worth that’s not even close to what she said when she talked about it on the air. Maybe she was just sugar-coating the ugly truth, but there’s no way for us to know that he dumped her.

I don’t know that he dumped her and I didn’t say that he dumped her. I described two events that seemed to be connected: the cancer and his departure.

Women who get breast cancer, actually any major illness or disability, frequently get dumped.

Exhibit A: the first Mrs. McCain.

I can understand the desire to have a child, and I don’t see that she would have any less time for a child than just about any other high-profile person.

Since we’re gossiping, I had her show running in the background about two weeks ago and I SWEAR I heard her say something about her husband. I thought, “When did Laura get married?!?”

Did I misunderstand? Did anyone else hear her say that? Or, more likely, did anyone hear what she REALLY said?

That ball busting is a relatively new thing. i recall a softer Laura. But now she is demeaning to men with whom she disagrees and seems to seek out confrontation over “feminist” issues.

I agree with almost every political thought she expresses, but she needs to stay away from that socio-cultural stuff with her “issues.”

I heard Laura announce it on her show today, and I think it’s great! Laura’s my favorite radio talk show host, and I think she has such a big heart.

While it’s best for there to be a father and mother, I think she’ll do a great job and it has to be much better than an orphanage. Laura took a couple with her to pick up Maria, so I’m sure she’ll make a point to have positive male figures in her life. Little Maria Caroline is beautiful :)

Leave it to the good people of FR to take something beautiful and make it bad. If Laura spent just ONE hour a day with this girl, her life is 10,000% better than it was in an orphanage in a third world country. So I’m not deemed hypocritical, I said the same thing about other celebrity adoptions that people here were down on. No matter what you think of Madonna and Angelina Jolie, they rescued the lives of those children and gave them a chance at a good life.

Again, not true. Smart and quick are awesome, however too many American women these days are afraid of femininity; of being a woman.
