Tell me again about Europe and her pains,
Whos tortured by the drought, who by the rains.
Glut me with floods where only the swine can row
Who cuts his throat and let him count his gains.
It seemed the best thing to be up and go.

1. | The British government continues its suicidal policy of promoting Multiculturalism and cracking down on British racists. | |
2. | A precipitating incident by an immigrant or group of immigrants sparks violence, with mobs of angry Britons taking the law into their own hands. | |
3. | The riot police and possibly military troops are summoned by the government to quell the racist hooligans. | |
4. | At this point a true civil war has begun, with the Government and civil authorities, in tacit alliance with the Islamists, fighting native Britons. | |
5. | Elements of the police and the military are reluctant to fight against their own countrymen with whom they are in broad agreement and they defect to the racist side of the conflict. | |

Let's remain objective here and only use mainstream sources, not Right-side blogs on the Muslim Brotherhood. Romney said this below at last night's debate:
Well move everything to get him. But I dont want to buy into the Democratic pitch, that this is all about one person, Osama bin Laden. Because after we get him, theres going to be another and another. This is about Shia and Sunni. This is about Hezbollah and Hamas and al Qaeda and the Muslim Brotherhood. This is the worldwide jihadist effort to try and cause the collapse of all moderate Islamic governments and replace them with a caliphate.
Matthew Yglesias attacks Romney and Republicans who allowed the comment to go unchallenged. He also responds with a defense of the Muslim Brotherhood and links to THFTNR calling Romney the Real Child of Hell:
To put it bluntly, the trouble here is that the Muslim Brotherhood just isn't a violent terrorist organization, and certainly doesn't commit acts of violence against the United States. It's an extremely traditionalist multinational civil society organization. It's true that a lot of violent types used to be in the Brotherhood and now they're in terrorist groups, but used to be is the key phrase here, they left the Brotherhood because the Brotherhood wouldn't sign on for their agenda. In one clause, Romney's just gone and broadened the war to include a huge new category of people who have no intention of waging war against the United States or even against Israel.
via the Washington Post:
The Brotherhood -- or al-Ikhwan al-Muslimun, as it is known in Arabic -- is a sprawling and secretive society with followers in more than 70 countries. It is dedicated to creating an Islamic civilization that harks back to the caliphates of the 7th and 8th centuries, one that would segregate women from public life and scorn nonbelievers.
In some nations -- Egypt, Algeria, Syria, Sudan -- the Brotherhood has fomented Islamic revolution. In the Palestinian territories, the Brotherhood created the Islamic Resistance Movement, or Hamas, which has become known for its suicide bombings of Israelis. Yet it is also a sophisticated and diverse organization that appeals to many Muslims worldwide and sometimes advocates peaceful persuasion, not violent revolt. Some of its supporters went on to help found al Qaeda, while others launched one of the largest college student groups in the United States.
Or read this take by an informed American Muslim:
The case for choosing from the lesser of two evils as the authors note in their reckless comparison of Qaradawis Islamism to Zawahris radical jihadism is certainly easy to make but sure folly. Zawahiri and Al Qaeda are a military threat with a militant Islamist ideology which speaks to only the fringe and most radical Islamists in the Muslim community. Qaradawi and the Brotherhood are actually far more dangerous ideologically to the West. Their similarly Islamist message may, in fact, resonate with a far greater number of Muslims in the West and the East as evidenced by the millions of western Muslims engaged almost daily by satellite watching al-Qaradawi. He and the Brotherhood at times speak of justice, a middle ground (wasatiya), democratic principles (voting and parliaments), and of womens rights, among other attractive principles.
Qaradawi, is moreover for the record, clearly no moderate. He has defended the barbarity of female circumcision and terrorism in Israel and Iraq. His duplicity on such issues demonstrates the inherent pathology of political Islam which will often even among supposed moderates sacrifice principle for the ends of Islamism. Yet, the attraction of Qaradawi and his so-called moderate Islamism, is built upon a societal and governmental formula which is incompatible with American governance and Jeffersonian democracy as we know it.
The Muslim Brotherhood is based upon a strictly Islamist approach to governance and law. At the very core of their approach to the branches of government is a toxic mixture of politics and theology. The toxicity of this mixture was foreseen by our forefathers who escaped religious persecution by the Church of England and sought to prevent it after 1789 years of the absence of liberty in the West. No matter how moderate or democratic Islamists report their processes to be, it is still under the mandate and intellectual control of Islamic scholars of sharia law also known as the ulemaa.
In light of the, many would argue, more than fair WaPo analysis of the MB, re-visit what Romney said:
This is about Shia and Sunni. This is about Hezbollah and Hamas and al Qaeda and the Muslim Brotherhood. This is the worldwide jihadist effort to try and cause the collapse of all moderate Islamic governments and replace them with a caliphate.
Romney isn't advocating killing all Shi'a and Sunni simply because he mentioned them and his mention of a worldwide movement to undermine moderate governments is spot on. One's left to ponder, who better to protect America, with her laws, traditions and values, Romney and like-minded others, who seem to have a reasonable appreciation for the threat posed by radical Islam and are willing to speak out against it, or Liberal Democrats so obsessed with the fear of throwing the baby out with the bath water, we'd all be washing our feet before we pray in fifty years?
The liberals and Democrat's inability to comprehend the threat to American culture from even only a truly political form of radical Islam is the best reason there is to not trust them with the Executive Branch. Political power is the very tool radicals with no regard for Western values seek to exploit to bring our American form of republic down.
Bruce Kesler at the Democracy Project has a long essay on how academia has systematically failed to provide an ethical basis for life in a world where technology, mobility and free markets have allowed the individual to attain a greater measure of autonomy than ever before. At the precise moment when each person required an inner compass to guide him through his environment, his elders have pointed him in all directions.
But rather than resulting in a world of reasoned discourse between different moral points of view, the systematic teaching of moral relativism in the classroom resulted in its precise opposite: a culture of uncritical conformity in the guise of political correctness whose members, unprepared to think for themselves became fair game to any cult leader or demagogue who card to take advantage of the milling flock of sheep. Quoting Maimon Schwarzchild, law professor at Catholic San Diego University, Kesler writes: Our civilizations peculiar misfortune is to be under a double assault, physically by the undercivilized from without, and psychologically by those surfeited with it from within. And these last own the classroom ... 73 percent of the students said that when their professors taught about ethical issues, the usual message was that uniform standards of right and wrong don't exist ("what is right and wrong depends on differences in individual values and cultural diversity"). It's not news that today's campuses are drenched in moral relativism. But we are allowed to be surprised that college students report they are being well prepared ethically by teachers who tell them, in effect, that there are no real ethical standards, so anything goes. The result is a civilization in the "process of committing suicide", whose dominant ideology is anti-anti-barbarism, where the highest value is not to oppose even the greatest evil. I found Kesler's observations interesting not merely in the intellectual sense, but because it bore directly on the conduct of the War on Terror. Terror, if it is anything, represents the ultimate challenge of barbarism against civilization. And if the great centers of Western learning, the giant flagships of its literacy as represented by newspapers, magazines and television stations cannot rouse themselves to oppose terrorism then in some fundamental sense it has already pre-surrendered. And this ethos of surrender, this "anti-anti-barbarism" will inevitably manifest itself in all facts of public life; a life which has been converted into a moral vacuum. Polygamy, endogamy, special dispensations for cults, the inordinate fear of giving offensive; these endless and futile accomodations to maintain a void which is rapidly being filled not by the same indefinite vapor, but is instead being occupied by a very definite point of view. A point of view that stipulates when one must wash, pray or what one should eat; that knows even the genders of vegetables. When the moral relativists cast the truth table from their ivory towers they forgot that anti-anti-bararism = ~~(~p)=~p, where p stands for civilization. It is in a word barbarism.
Heres an example of an honor killing (a horrible term for an evil practice) that is not linked to Islam or perpetrated by Muslims. In this case the Dark Ages barbarism was committed by members of the Yazidi religion, a pre-Islamic, pre-Christian pagan faith, and the girl was murdered because she had a relationship with a Muslim boy: The moment a teenage girl was stoned to death for loving the wrong boy. The Popular Science blog has links to a photo essay "on the rapidly disappearing town of Shishmaref on the ABC News Web site. The coastal Alaskan village has about 600 residents and is believed to have been inhabited (on and off) for 4,000 years. Today, with water rising about 10 feet a year, it's in danger of sinking. The population of Shishmaref may soon count themselves among the first wave of global-warming refugees."
The Popular Science accounts gives the impression that the sea levels have risen by 10 feet a year on the Alaskan coast. But accounts of islands that are "sinking" have been shown due to factors which cause subsidence in the land. Anyone who claims that the sea level goes up 10 feet a year in Alaska due, presumably to melting Polar ice caps, should explain why the Sydney Opera House is still visible, or why anyone with beachfront property is not drowned unless the sea can change its level in one place and not in another.
Any thoughts?

Women should not be forced to be incubators based strictly on the moment of conception, but the idea that fetuses have no rights (progressively increased over time ) as they become more viable and human within the womb is barbaric.

Pet Food Recall - April 2007
Two weeks ago in the Weekly Standard Stephen Hayes took a look at Fred Thompson and his potential presidential candidacy. The article was full of pungent quotes from Senator Thompson. (I pulled a few here.) This week Steve served up the outtakes from his interview for "a second helping of Fred." The longest quote addresses the saga of Joseph Wilson and the ordeal of Lewis Libby. Here is a portion:
So, here you go, the CIA, you know, kept sending over this complaint. Which--they started the whole problem! You know, it makes me mad as the devil just to think about it. They picked this guy out to send to Niger, which is bound to go and let him come back and start making political attacks when his wife works over there! Did it ever occur to anybody that her name was going to be and he was put in play in this town? The amazing thing is that it stayed out of the papers as long as it did! So they set the whole thing up and then they said: 'Oh my goodness somebody's got to prosecute this.'"Thompson's assertion that the CIA "set the whole thing up" can be taken much further than even he takes it. In late 2005 I contacted the CIA public information officer who fields media questions regarding Joe Wilson. I asked him why the Agency hadn't required Wilson to sign a confidentiality agreement regarding his trip to Niger. He hesitated for a few seconds, then responded: "I don't know." I followed up with my questions by e-mail:
(1) Why wasn't Wilson's February 2002 trip to Niger made subject to a confidentiality agreement? The CIA officer responded:(2) Did the Agency contemplate that Wilson would publicly discuss the trip at will upon his return?
(3) Did the agency anticipate that if he did so, it would attract attention to the employment of his wife by the agency?
(4) Why did the Agency select Wilson for the mission to Niger to check out such an important and sensitive matter given his lack of experience in intelligence or investigation?
(5) Was the Agency aware when it selected him for the mission of his hostility to the Bush administration?
Given the ongoing legal process, I don't have anything for you in response to your questions about Ambassador Wilson.Joe Wilson was not the only CIA-related political opponent of the Bush administration who emerged during the run-up to the 2004 election. In July 2004, the same month that the Times published Wilson's notorious op-ed column, CIA analyst Michael Scheuer published his strange book Imperial Hubris.
In the epilogue to the paperback edition, Scheuer stated that he "was never told why the CIA permitted publication." Following publication of the book, the CIA permitted Scheuer "anonymously" to criticize the Bush administration's conduct of the war on terror in media interviews until his criticisms extended beyond the administration to the intelligence community. (Scheuer left the Agency in November 2004 -- the week after the election.) I also asked the CIA the following questions regarding Scheuer:
(1) Has the Agency ever before in its history authorized the publication of a book by a current Agency employee attacking the incumbent administration? The Agency's response to these questions was a bit more forthcoming:(2) Was Scheuer's employment status classified at any time between 1999 and the time he resigned from the Agency? If so, over what period?
(3) Can you cite any previous instances in the history of the Agency of currently employed Agency analysts attacking the incumbent administration?
[A]ll CIA employees have prepublication obligations. Beyond the obvious prohibition on releasing classified information, the outside writings and speeches of serving officers must not affect either their ability to do their jobs or the agency's ability to accomplish its mission. Because CIA is not a policy organization, its regulations discourage current employees from speaking or writing publicly on policy issues.Which left open the question: How did things stand in 2004? I wrote about the CIA's apparent efforts to undermine the Bush administration in "Three Years of the Condor."In light of that common-sense guidance, the chances are extremely remote -- to put it mildly -- that a presently serving officer would be allowed to write a book today injecting him or herself into a national policy debate. That is how things stand now.
The Senate Intelligence Committee Report on prewar intelligence is the key document on Wilson's trip. If only the Senate Intelligence Committee had classified the Report and leaked it to the Times, it might have had an impact on the mainstream media story line on the Wilson affair. As it is, the fact that the Report demonstrated Wilson's thoroughgoing mendacity essentially remains confidential insofar as mainstream media reporting is concerned.
One of these days some big-time journalist is bound to dig out the evidence of the CIA's scandalous efforts to replace the Bush administration with one more to its liking. Right?

Ed Lasky advises a transcript now has been found by the Des Moines Register, as has an audio (hat tip: Anne Lieberman.) So Obama lied. Not surprising considering his long affiliation and support of the Pali /Syrian Arabs despite his recent attempts to hide otherwise. If I see the Jews continue to kiss this man's ass, I am gonna hurl. Obama seems to intrinsically understand if you tell the Jews what they want to hear, regardless of truth, substance or validity, it's good enough for them. History and current events bear that sad fact out.
Separating fact from fiction .......... this will be the job of the blogs in the mendacious road to the Presidency.
Obama is caught in a public fabrication Ed Lasky
Barack Obama has been caught in a fabrication (see my earlier blog Home of the Whopper), and the MSM is giving him a free pass. The least other media outlets could do is to back up the Des Moines Register, which has both a transcript and audio demonstrating how Obama lied about what he said about the Palestinians.
Read all of Ed's post here.
In today's Des Moines Register, there is an excellent summary of the Democrats spinning (euphemism for deceit) at their debate (article here.)
* Sen. Barack Obama of Illinois, explaining his call to show compassion for Palestinians, put a spin on the remark that differs from the way it was originally reported by an Iowa newspaper.
Obama's Palestinian Remark
Obama defended his remark that "nobody is suffering more than the Palestinian people," a statement attacked by some pro-Israel activists. His version differed in tone if not in substance from the way it was originally reported, however.
Moderator Brian Williams: You said recently, "No one is suffering more than the Palestinian people." Do you stand by that remark?
Obama: Well, keep in mind what the remark actually, if you had the whole thing, said. And what I said is nobody has suffered more than the Palestinian people from the failure of the Palestinian leadership to recognize Israel, to renounce violence, and to get serious about negotiating peace and security for the region.
Liar
That's somewhat different from the way Obama was quoted March 12 by reporter Thomas Beaumont of the Des Moines Register. As reported, Obama attributed Palestinian suffering to "the stalled peace efforts with Israel" and not so narrowly to failures by Palestinian leadership only.
Liar
Des Moines Register, March 12: Obama told the Muscatine-area party activists that he supports relaxing restrictions on aid to the Palestinian people. He said they have suffered the most as a result of stalled peace efforts with Israel.
"Nobody is suffering more than the Palestinian people," Obama said while on the final leg of his weekend trip to eastern Iowa.
That statement would appear to lay some of the blame at the doorstep of Israel's leadership as well.
Ed continues;
Obama evidently thought he could get away with making up a story about what he said, when challenged about it, perhaps because he was only speaking before about 40 Iowa Democrats at the time. He didn't reckon on the ubiquity of recorders, including telephones, or perhaps he thought that the Des Moines Register would roll over for him the way the rest of the media seems inclined to do.

Peter Schweizer's Do As I Say (Not As I Do) is a brilliant expostion of liberal hypocrisy. The Kennedy family all by itself provides substantial material for Peter's book. For example, Schweizer discusses Ted Kennedy's opposition to a wind power project on Nantucket Sound that would apparently impair the view from the Kennedy family compound six miles away. Not in his backyard! (Peter's book has a serious point. Peter argues that the behavior of notable liberals conflicting with their professed beliefs shows their beliefs to be "ultimately self-defeating, self-destructive, and unworkable.")
Alex Beam writes a column for the Boston Globe. I'm not familiar with Beam's work, but the current issue of the Weekly Standard carries Beam's very funny review of Cape Wind: Money, Celebrity, Class, Politics and the Battle for America's Energy Future on Nantucket Sound by Wendy Williams and Robert Whitcomb. Unfortunately, Beam's review is restricted to subscribers.
Cape Wind is the 24-square-mile, turbine-powered electrical power project to be built in Horseshoe Shoal that is discussed in Schweizer's book. Cape Wind chronicles the opposition of wealthy Cape Cod residents and Martha's Vineyard islanders such as David McCullough, Walter Cronkite, and all manner of Kennedys, Mellons and Duponts to Cape Wind:
The Mellons and the DuPonts have summered on the Cape for a lot longer than former cable TV salesman Jim Gordon [the entrepreneur behind Cape Wind] has been a millionaire, and, naturally, they have powerful friends. Cue the pathetic marital opportunist Sen. John Warner, who nominally represents the people of Virginia. Blubbering to the Senate's Environment and Public Works Committee, Warner invokes his first, pre-Elizabeth Taylor, wife: "A wonderful person who is still a very dear and valued friend. . . . She does have a home on the Cape. I was actually married there."The wonderful woman in question is Catherine Mellon, daughter of Bunny, the widow of Paul Mellon. Bunny, who is the first person named in Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis's will--Jackie left her two Indian miniatures, by way of thanks for Bunny's help in redesigning the White House Rose Garden--is an ardent Cape Wind opponent. In the book, she accuses a lawyer who does not hate Cape Wind assiduously enough of being a "traitor to your class." That's language you expect to hear on Masterpiece Theater, not in George W. Bush's America.
The authors relate how, pace President Bush, Cape Wind has proved to be a uniter, not a divider. Outraged by the shenanigans on Capitol Hill--not only Warner, but also Alaska's notorious "bridge to nowhere" congressman Don Young have tried to throttle the child of Aeolus in its watery crib-such unlikely bedfellows as Robert Novak, the Washington Post, and the Washington Times have leapt to Cape Wind's defense. How rare for Sun Myung Moon's scribblers, to say nothing of Rupert Murdoch's salarymen at Fox News, to find themselves allied with the merry pranksters from Greenpeace, who have injected some badly needed humor into the Cape Wind imbroglio. Greenpeace produced an ad showing a roly-poly senator standing knee-deep in salt water, brandishing a wooden mallet. As wind turbines surface, the senator smashes them down, Whac-a-Mole style, complaining that "I might see them from my mansion on the Cape." Fox News commentators Sean Hannity and Alan Colmes loved the ad, and gave it air play.
Greenpeace teased Robert Kennedy Jr. during an anti-Cape Wind photo op and infiltrated a Ted Kennedy book-signing in Washington. While the senior senator from Massachusetts signed copies of America Back on Track, replete with predictable complaints about the country's energy policy, Greenpeaceniks handed out dummy book covers to people waiting in line. Their alternate title: How I Killed America's First Offshore Wind Farm.
I ask you, where is the respect?

Fred Thompson appeared last night at the Lincoln Club, an influential group of California power brokers in the GOP, giving a speech which broadly outlines his agenda. Given that the Lincoln Club could have invited almost any of the 2008 primary candidates to speak at their annual dinner, the choice of Thompson gives the impression of a tacit endorsement of his candidacy -- and the Lincoln Clubs endorsement (tacit or otherwise) carries a powerful weight to anyone fortunate enough to receive it.
The speech itself serves as an excellent entrée into the race. On the Iraq war, he remained steadfast in its central importance to American global security. On economics and taxes, he stayed close to the federalist philosophies that have become his hallmark. Thompson also attacked government waste, red tape, and its intrusion into areas without a Constitutional mandate -- and its poor performance when it does.
I've extensively reviewed the speech at Heading Right. It hits a consistent message of limited government, strong defense, and the need to tackle entitlement reform as one of the highest domestic priorities of the nation. It's a great launch to his campaign, whether tacit or explicit.
I confess that I've been a little irritated by the whole Fred Thompson phenomenon, for two reasons. First, I think that to many he is sort of a fantasy candidate: people project their desires onto him and create him in their own image, much as many Democrats do with Barack Obama. The mythical Fred Thompson who is just the candidate we're looking for--whatever that may be--has little to do, I think, with the actual Fred Thompson.
Second, the last five years have been a critical time in our nation's history. From 2002 to the present, men like George Bush, John McCain, and many others have been fighting a very difficult battle on behalf of our country. Not Fred Thompson: he preferred to leave the Senate to live the very sweet life of a minor television celebrity. There's nothing wrong with that, necessarily, but it's not exactly heroic, either.
Having said that, I have nothing against Thompson. He has some great strengths, and if he should enter the race and become the party's nominee, I will support him enthusiastically. Last night, he gave a speech at the Lincoln Club of Orange County that has attracted a lot of notice. The text of the speech is here. Via Real Clear Politics, here is a YouTube video that captures excerpts from the speech, on the threat of nulcear terrorism, immigration and entitlements:
The video is brief, but it conveys a sense of Thompson's potential strength as a candidate.

Talk radio is overwhelmingly right-leaning because it satisfies the public's growing appetite for alternative news and commentary to the liberal media establishment. If the Democrats don't like the opinions of Savage, Limbaugh or Hannity, then all they need to do is go to CNN, MSNBC, NPR, The New York Times or The Washington Post. There are countless outlets peddling the anti-war, anti-Bush mantras of the left.
Kuhner, Insight Magazine
You must read Kuhner's seminal piece. Understand what these legislative moves like the ridiculously named "Fairness Doctrine" are really all about. Frightening times my friends. Insight magazine (PAID)
Kuhner: Liberal totalitarianism
Commentary by Jeffrey T. Kuhner
InsightLiberal Democrats are attempting to muzzle conservative talk radio: they are assaulting free speech. Like the communists in the former Soviet Union, America's liberals seek to crush dissent by consolidating control over the media-especially talk radio, which has emerged as the dominant medium for conservative opinion.
Allies close to House Speaker Nancy Pelosi are promoting legislation, which if passed, will take off the air prominent conservative radio hosts such as Michael Savage, Rush Limbaugh, Sean Hannity and Bill O'Reilly-along with thousands of smaller conservative broadcasters. The bill, entitled the "Media Ownership Reform Act," is sponsored by Rep. Maurice Hinchey, a leftist Democrat from New York. The legislation aims to revive the so-called "Fairness Doctrine" of the 1940's: "all views" are to be given equal time on radio. In particular, the Federal Communications Commission would have the power to oversee and change radio and television content. The goal is to tilt the ideological balance of power away from the right on the nation's air waves.
The real force behind the effort to censor conservative talk radio is the progressive-philanthropist, George Soros. The radical leftist billionaire has made no secret of his hatred for conservatives. He says President Bush has transformed America into a militaristic, "fascist" empire. Moreover, Soros champions many of liberalism's chic causes: abortion on demand, legalization of drugs, homosexual marriage, euthanasia, unlimited Third World immigration, open borders, and one-world government anchored in the United Nations. He advocates all the issues that are anathema to popular radio talk-show hosts like Savage, Limbaugh and Hannity. Hence, he wants these commentators to be exiled to the political wilderness.
At a recent National Conference for Media Reform, sponsored by Free Press, a Massachusetts-based group heavily subsidized by Soros, Hinchey laid bare his plan to silence conservative voices on television and radio. The anti-war McGovernite attacked Savage, Limbaugh and other conservative radio hosts, saying they were "responsible" for leading the U.S. into the Iraq war, as well as for preparing the ground for future military invasions of Iran and Syria. According to Hinchey, these men pose a "threat" to American national security. Hence, under his bill, they would be fired.
"All of that stuff will end," Hinchey said.

Stoning death mobile phone video shown on internet
By Abdulhamid Zebari in Arbil, Iraq
May 5, 2007
MOBILE phone videos have appeared on the internet showing an Iraqi mob stoning and kicking to death a 17-year-old girl after she offended her minority community by eloping with a Muslim man.
Doaa Khalil Aswad was a member of northern Iraqs Yazidi religious sect but, according to local officials, was murdered on April 7 by her brothers and uncles after she allegedly converted to Islam.
In the video - on the Kurdish website Jebar.Info and rapidly spreading on the internet - Aswad is shown lying in the road as men kick her and throw a large lump of rock or concrete at her head.
Her face is drenched in blood but uniformed and armed members of the Iraqi police stand by and do nothing to prevent the attack.
The slim, dark-haired girl is wearing a red tracksuit top and black underwear during the beating.
At one point she struggles to sit up and cover herself, but a man kicks her in the face knocking her violently back to the ground.
The assault continues for several minutes and she does not appear to cry out nor resist her attackers.
Members of a large crowd can be seen filming the murder on their mobile phones, some shouting or kicking out at the cowering victim.
Nobody tries to help her.
They brutally killed a young Yazidi girl in pursuit of out-of-date tribal rites, said Tahsin Saeed Ali, Emir of the Yazidis in Iraq and the world and head of the Supreme Yazidi Spiritual Council.
It should be pointed out that Yazdis are not Muslims. Indeed, as the article points out, the girl was killed at least in part for converting to Islam.
Of course the difference may seem somewhat academic here.

As he walked out of a radio studio near Amsterdam, a left-wing activist named Volker van der Graaf pumped five bullets into his back. Fortuyn died almost instantly. The killer would later explain that Fortuyn's views on Muslim immigration made him a "danger." It was the Netherlands's first political assassination in over 300 years.

Seeing the link for this New York Times story on Drudge just crystallized something for me. From the article:
Every morning, representatives from a cluster of antiwar groups gather for a conference call with Democratic leadership staff members in the House and the Senate.
Shortly after, in a cramped meeting room here, they convene for a call with organizers across the country. They hash out plans for rallies. They sketch out talking points for rapid response news conferences. They discuss polls they have conducted in several dozen crucial Congressional districts and states across the country.
Over the last four months, the Iraq deliberations in Congress have lurched from a purely symbolic resolution rebuking the presidents strategy to timetables for the withdrawal of American troops. Behind the scenes, an elaborate political operation, organized by a coalition of antiwar groups and fine-tuned to wrestle members of Congress into place one by one, has helped nudge the debate forward.
But there are tensions in the relationship between the groups, which banded together earlier this year under the umbrella of Americans Against Escalation in Iraq, and the Democratic leadership. The fissures could be magnified in coming weeks as the House speaker, Nancy Pelosi of California, and the Senate majority leader, Harry Reid of Nevada, struggle to cobble together a strategy after President Bushs veto of the $124 billion Iraq spending bill that tied the money to a timetable for withdrawal.
There is nothing new about this, really. Anti-war groups have been a core constituency for the Democrats since the 1960s. They had been sufficiently co-opted by the 90s that Bill Clinton could use U.S. troops for such unilateral adventures as the Kosovo fight (he didnt even have UN approval, the cowboy!) without so much as a peepbut this is parallel to the way feminist groups had been so co-opted that they defended Clinton against substantiable allegations of precisely the kind of sexual harassment previously said to be the worst possible: that of a powerful man toward a female subordinate.
But Bill Clinton is no longer president, and his successor is a Republican, so of course the anti-war constituency within the Democratic Party is once again anti-war; and now that both houses of Congress are held by the Democrats, that once-again-anti-war anti-war constituency expects Congress to do anti-war things.
On Thursday, leaders of the liberal group MoveOn.org, including Tom Matzzie, the groups Washington director who also serves as the campaign manager for the coalition, sent a harshly worded warning to the Democratic leadership.
In the past few days, we have seen what appear to be trial balloons signaling a significant weakening of the Democratic position, the letter read. On this, we want to be perfectly clear: if Democrats appear to capitulate to Bushpassing a bill without measures to end the warthe unity Democrats have enjoyed and Democratic leadership has so expertly built, will immediately disappear.
They are creating a public image for the Democrats that the party had already expended a quarter-century in overcoming before Clinton made it to the White House. Clearly, convincing these groups to keep a low profile for the sake of the party was not a long-term solution, since they now expect their forbearance to be compensated. Nor do Reid and Pelosi have the political clout as congressional leaders, nor for that matter the leadership ability, to resurrect that forbearance even if there were the slightest chance such an attempt could succeedBill Clinton himself couldnt do it now even if he could somehow resume the presidency as part of the deal. There really isnt anyone who could.
Which means the Democrats have only one choice. They have to call the anti-war crowds bluff and tell them to shut up or take a hike. After all, if the Democratic Party doesnt pander to them, where will they go?
Yes, Ia conservative who plans to deny John McCain my vote if he is the GOP nominee in 2008do recognize the irony in that rhetorical question, and I realize that if the anti-war netroots and their sympathizers dont get their way they may very well stay home on Election Day themselves, hurting the Democrats electoral chances. And as a Republican I acknowledge that I wouldnt be unhappy with that result. Theres just one thing, though:
The anti-war constituencys clout in the Democratic Party is based on a single issue on which its members hold extreme views, which distinguishes it from the conservative wing of the Republican Party which covers a wide range of issues on which most of the views are well within the nations political mainstream.
When Republican leaders offend conservatives, they suffer badly at the polls.
If Democrat leaders had the courage to offend anti-war groups, it could actually help their party. In the long run, Im sure of it.
But as long as Pelosi and Reid are the partys most visible leaders, the anti-war fringe will increasingly define the Democratic Party. And that hands the advantage to a GOP that I think most people recognize is itself increasingly unfit except on questions of national defense.
Members of the anti-war constituency are not the only single-issue voters at play in upcoming elections; they are vastly outnumbered by those who believe this warthe larger war to defend civilization, not necessarily just the one in Iraqmust be won even at the expense of controlling federal spending or re-regulating abortion or even fighting illegal immigration. And the Democratic Party that ascended to power in Congress as a result of the 2006 elections is increasingly demonstrating that it cannot be counted on to fight the larger war to victory.
Only when the Democrats realize that surrender is not a winning electoral platform will they ever be able to achieve any lasting electoral success.
I wont say now is as good a time as any, because tomorrow is not as good a time as today, and the day after that even worse.
Update: Added a clause in the third-to-last paragraph to clarify what war Im talking about.
It's not enough that the average Briton is captured on closed-circuit TV cameras in his car, in the street, in the shopping mall, and even in country lanes where the rural constabulary have hidden them in trees to catch illegal fox hunters. Now the government is monitoring his garbage. If they ever take up Sheryl Crow's all-we-are-saying-is-give-one-piece-a-chance toilet-paper rationing, you can bet the enforcers will mandate CCTVs in every bathroom if not microchips in the bowl.If George Bush put a microchip in your garbage under the Patriot Act, there'd be mass demonstrations across the land. But do it in the guise of saving the planet and everyone's fine with it.
And maybe they did. Hitler was a vegetarian and the Nazis tried to prohibit smoking in public. The authoritarian left does not like to look in the mirror and see what totalitarianism looks like.

Here's something I wrote a long (along) time ago:
What blogs have changed is the front-end of the news. The mainstream media is the News Engine.
We need the legacy media and their awesome resources to provide the raw material of news to the blogosphere. But you don't ask ranchers for beef; you ask butchers for beef, and if your butcher keeps trimming it his way instead of your way, you go find a different butcher.
We no longer need the MSM to study, analyse, antagonize over everything and then tell us what to think--we have developed our own front-end; it is customizable and verifiable, we fact-check it and each other, and it's here to stay.
Mike Nifong faces disbarment and almost certainly a flurry of lawsuits over his negligent and malicious handling of the Duke lacrosse players accused of rape by a mentally unstable woman. He may not be the only one on the hot seat, however, as the Durham police department apparently also failed to follow its own procedures and imcompetently investigated the charges. Police chief Steve Chalmers will finally issue a report on how his department investigated the woman's allegations, and it appears he has much to defend:Posted by Ed Morrissey at 09:58 AM | Comments (0)

The planned destruction of Canada
From a deeply saddened CNN: PARIS, France (CNN) Conservative Nicolas Sarkozy has won Frances presidential election, beating his Socialist rival Segolene Royal by a comfortable margin, television projections said on Sunday. Forecasts by four pollsters showed 52-year-old former interior minister Sarkozy won about 53 percent of the vote in the second-round ballot and will succeed fellow conservative Jacques Chirac, who was president for 12 years. Turnout was predicted at about 85 percent. Thousands of rightwing voters burst into applause and wild cheering after Sarkozys victory was announced at the concert hall where he was due to make a speech. Royal, who was campaigning to be Frances first female president, immediately conceded defeat and thanked her supporters
That was a pretty quick concession from Ms. Royal. The polls must have just closed. Which makes one suspect that Sarkozy won in a landslide. If so, we wont hear anything about it. We certainly wont hear any mention of a mandate. Only liberals get mandates. One dead as explosion rocks Las Vegas hotel ADP
LOS ANGELES (AFP) - An employee of a Las Vegas hotel was killed after an explosion in the resort's car-park early Monday, police in Nevada told AFP.
The man, whose identity was not disclosed, died after picking up an object in the parking structure of the famous pyramid-shaped Luxor Hotel on the busy Vegas strip. A second person was hospitalised in the incident.
Police gave no further information about the cause of the blast but local media reports suggested that explosives had been stuffed into a back-pack placed on top of the dead man's car.

Because the actual number of cars destroyed by youths last night was 730about twice the number reported by the AP.
This Reuters article also says 78 policemen were injured by the youths, and the violence was much more widespread than weve been told: Police hurt in French election violence. No point in letting a good rant go to waste -- so I'll repost it here!
On rare occasion I make a comment somewhere other than LGF, and this time around it was in the Washington Post, where they allow reader comments on various articles.
In this instance, the piece that pushed me over the edge was this "op-ed" by someone named "E. J. Dionne Jr." I wrote a comment in response here -- but since it's only visible to registered users, I thought I would let my comment out of its MSM cage and paste it in here!
The op-ed, to save you the time of reading it, was about the French elections, and the significance it has for "progressives" in other countries. In essence, the piece says nothing noteworthy, except for one detail: he refers to Segolene Royal as the "center-left" and also "the moderate left." That was enough to get my fingers flying, and I posted this comment under the randomly selected username "jackanape" (since "zombie" was already taken):
----------------------------------------
This entire op-ed revolves around a grand Orwellian euphemism -- that Segolene Royal (and other politicians with comparable postions) are, as the writer posits, "center-left" or "moderate left." Nice way to move the goalposts, E.J.! Did anyone notice what party Royal belongs to? Hmmm? Oh yeah, the Socialist Party. And what was her platform (to the degree to which it could be deciphered)? That's right -- a Socialist platform.
If socialism -- which, according to Marxist theory, is just a way-station on the road to communism -- counts as the "moderate left" to the Washington Post, then the entire reference frame for assessing political positions has shifted several notches leftward.
Sarkozy has endlessly been referred to by the media over the last few days as "far right-wing" or "hard right" or "a right-wing conservative," when in fact he's barely even center-right. Almost half of his policies would be an American progressive's fantasy come true. So, why the media portrayal of him as an extreme right-winger? Because of the transparent agenda of many in the media to so refocus what counts as the "center" that even policies that once counted as socialistic are now considered middle-of-the-road.
And that's the same agenda visible in this op-ed piece. To the casual reader, who only sees the meta-message of any news story, it seems patently obvious that the entire purpose of E.J.'s piece was to reinforce in the American public's mind the new notion that Socialism is "center-left", while anything to the right of Socialism edges toward extremism.
Why? Could it be that, since the political platforms of people like Obama and Edwards are pretty similar to that of Royal, the biased media needs to make sure no one gets the wrong idea that they're pushing watered-down neo-Socialism?
Gone are the days when such Lakoff-esque transparent attempts to "re-frame the debate" would go undetected, or have the desired effect on the reader. Now, all such subtle propaganda does is make people snort in derision at the media's ham-handed attempts at indoctrination.

#82 ...Regarding immigration in particular, it is unfortunate there is not a single leader who can articulate how unprecedented and harmful our current scheme is to the fabric of a country. If Mexico showed itself as a shining example of liberty and opportunity I would welcome every newcomer. But Mexico is a corrupt, dangerous cleptocracy whose people are fleeing to come here...
Tancredo (Colorado) is the only one whom has said enough is enough. He mentioned that the reason he is running is because none of the candidates will talk about the illegal immagration problem.
I think it was Dick Morris that mentioned that our news media has over 80% liberal agenda. I remember thinking that Tancredo will never get noticed because the media does not want his views on immagration to become public knowledge. The reason being is about 75% of the population want something done.
Brian over at Snapped Shot lays out the latest rollover by the dhimmi academes here.
This is as bad as Minnesota College installing muslim foot baths for Muslim ritual foot-washing (more on that here.)
I'm a GMU student for the past 4 years, and there's definitely a slow progress towards the campus being Muslim. First, they installed foot washing basins in ALL of the bathrooms of the central Student building. The "ecumenical" prayer areas were slowly taken over by Muslims, and any students not conforming to Muslim beliefs (i.e., no shoes, no women) were removed from the PUBLIC area. Then, the campus went through the effort of getting Halal food served... and are repeating the effort again at my expense, considering the last vendor couldn't be bothered to be ISLAMIC enough to be "Kosher..." or meet the health code requirements.
There was a brief dustup recently when "TOLERANT" idiots did their best to NOT TOLERATE any dissenting views, interrupting a speaker invited by the College Republicans to speak on campus. Repercussions for their actions? None in the least!
NOW, the ISLAMOFASCISTS want THEIR "public" prayer area expanded to take up most of the third floor (my favourite haunt!), taking away room from the public STUDY area.
Is this a school? Or is it an Islamic Outreach?
With some of the idiots working there, maybe it IS better as the latter, but sheesh... Enough's enough!
Any of y'all have any thoughts on this? It's really getting beyond ridiculous at this point, and I'm SICK of having to PUT UP WITH IT.
Charles Johnson notes that AP apparently bought an attempt to downplay the violence, an effort that French authorities attempted to keep the foreign press from broadcasting the extensive nature of the riots.
From the Washington Times:
Guide coaches illegals on raids
May 7, 2007
A Maryland-based immigrant-advocacy group is distributing guidebooks instructing those targeted by federal immigration agents during job-site raids not to cooperate with authorities if they are arrested or detained.
The eight-page, two-color illustrated book lists what rights "people who are not United States citizens" have if detained by immigration agents, details what to do if served with a warrant or charged with a crime, and urges them to remain silent if they are arrested.
The book also says they should refuse to provide authorities with any information about their immigration status.
Included in the book is a "Know Your Rights" card to be cut out and presented to arresting agents, showing that those detained choose to exercise their "right to remain silent, the right to refuse to answer your questions" and to "refuse to sign anything until I consult with my attorney."
The book, which features cartoonlike drawings of armed black and white police officers escorting Hispanic men in handcuffs and shows babies crying because their fathers are behind bars, is the product of CASA of Maryland Inc., working with other organizations
Kim Propeack, the groups director of community organizing and political action, said CASA has "become aware that some segments of our community" are frightened about the prospect of immigration raids and may avoid interacting with government institutions even if they have nothing to do with immigration.
"We consider providing people with accurate information about their rights fundamentally important to the people we serve, the local community concerned about public safety, and to the national community, which has adopted a bill of rights," she said.
CASA, originally known as the Central American Solidarity and Assistance of Maryland, is a 501(c)(3) tax-exempt, charitable organization established in 1985. According to its latest IRS public-disclosure report filed on April 24, 2006, it received $1.14 million in private donations and $1.64 million in government fees and contracts $2.78 million in revenue in the year ending June 30, 2005.
Its government funds came from the cities of Baltimore and Takoma Park, Montgomery and Prince Georges counties, the state of Maryland, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, and the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development
The CASA book advises those facing arrest not to lie to immigration agents, warns against using false documents and urges them not to carry papers from another country because they could be used in a deportation proceeding.
The book says that during a job-site raid, immigration agents need to have a warrant signed by a judge and urges those at the site: "Stay calm. Do not run. This may be viewed as an admission that you have something to hide."
It says immigration agents and police cannot make arrests unless they have a warrant or evidence of nonresidency, adding: "Do not tell immigration your immigration status or where you were born." If confronted with a search warrant, the book advises: "Do not open the door. Ask the officer to slip the warrant underneath the door" to avoid giving agents the impression that they have "consent" to enter.
The book says those arrested should demand their right to a telephone call, contact their foreign consulate, and be aware that formal charges have to be brought within 48 hours or they have to be released.
It also says government agents may try to "intimidate" those detained into signing documents and warns: "Dont let yourself be tricked. You may be signing away your right to a hearing before an immigration judge."
Of course this is nothing new. But it is so brazen.
And of course it is being done by yet another 501c3 taxpayer supported "charity."
And once again we will point out that breaking the law or even encouraging others to break the law is supposed to be enough for a 501c3 to lose its tax exempt status.
Supposed to be.

What the MSM-even FNC-wont show you.
At the Power Line Candidates' Forum, Rudy Giuliani calls for repeal of the estate tax:
Giuliani, who said he cut taxes 23 times to the tune of $9 billion while mayor of New York City, pointed out the inheritance tax adjusts from 55 percent to 45 percent in 2009, is at zero for one year, then goes back to 55 percent. You get it, Giuliani said from a platform in the shop area at Rexco Equipment, a small business in the same hands in Cedar Rapids for more than 40 years. You gotta die that year. If you dont, you give more than half of your business to the government.
This isn't the first time the Kyoto polar bear population fraud has been mentioned here.

GLOBAL YAWNING:
Saying youre not for the environment right now is like saying youre not for education, children, world peace, Africa or a cure for cancer. These days you would have to be a fool or a lobbyist to dismiss global warming and natural resource issues.

LIVEBLOGGING FBI PRESS CONFERENCE:
Today the global jihad came to Cherry Hill New Jersey.
Plotters rented a house in Poconos to train. Plotters wanted to hit base to cause power outage.
Suspects had the videos of two 9/11 hijackers. They watched videos of the killing of American soldiers. They watched the blowing off of the arm of an American soldier and the room burst into laughter. These are the kind of people we are dealing with. They said: "We can do a lot of damage with seven people. . We can do big things with seven people."
They said: Prepared to die in service of Allah
Today we dodged a lot of bullets. They were forming a platoon to form an army.

Will CAIR be suing the store clerk? Will they use NY CAIR President Omar Mohammedi , the lawyer suing US Airways and the Jane and John Does who alerted the authorities to the six imams threatening behavior? The same lawyer on Mayor BloOmberg's Human Rights Commission?

I hope France crushes this. The people have spoken. No matter how conciliatory the media writes this story - Sarkozy "divisive", " controversial Right-wing conservative Nicolas Sarkozy," "tough language," "crackdowns on immigration" (are people not allowed to expect enforcement of rule of law?), "riot squads" (aka the Police) the facts on the ground cannot be spun.
Look at the above AP photo: the big bad riot goons and the poor helpless immigrant (second and third generation are still considered immigrant? WTF?). Watch what is really happening: VIDEOS HERE.
It's Sarkozy's fault, it's the voters' fault - everyone but the animals destroying the country. This from ITV
The son of a Hungarian immigrant, Mr Sarkozy caused controversy in 2005 when he described rioters as 'racaille', a derogatory term thought to have sparked trouble across France.
Socialists urge end to riots in France Benton Crier
Sarkozy, who beat Socialist Segolene Royal in a runoff Sunday, is a divisive figure whose tough language and crackdowns on crime and immigration have angered many on the left and in the immigrant-heavy suburban housing projects that erupted in riots in 2005. An anti-Sarkozy rally in Paris was planned for Tuesday afternoon.
Late Monday night, several hundred people massed again at the Place de la Bastille in Paris, breaking windows in nearby shops and starting street fires. Riot police dispersed them, and about 100 people were arrested, police said Tuesday. A handful of cars were ignited in the area.
In Nantes in western France, hundreds gathered again Monday night, with a few dozen hurling beer bottles and other projectiles at police cordons, police said. Police responded with tear gas and arrested several people. Public buildings were also damaged. Minor incidents were also reported in Toulouse in southern France.
From Ace, citing the media embargo of a Rasmussen poll finding that 61% of self-identifying Democrats either believe George Bush knew of the 9/11 attacks in advance or are not sure if he did or not:
[...] when 61% of Democrats state they believe that George Bush knew about the 9/11 attacks in advance, or may have known of themthus making George Bush a co-conspirator in the attacksthe media not only does no debunking whatseover, but fails to point out the left is engaging in some fairly serious myth-making itself.
Long story short:
The media considers it crazy to believe that Saddam Hussein, President of Iraq, had something to do with 9/11, and fights this insanity with every tool at its disposal, including outright deception.
On the other hand, the media does not apparently consider it particularly hard to believe that George Bush, President of the United States, had something to do with 9/11. If they did consider such a notion beyond the pale, one would imagine theyd publicize (and implicity mock) those crazed liberals believing that our own President aided and abetted Osama bin Ladin.
But of course they dont. Because its simply not possible for a reasonble person to believe a sworn enemy of the US, known to have at least some ties with Al Qaeda, could have had a hand in the attacks, but a reasonable person could, according to the MSM, believe that a US President with no ties to Al Qaeda helped facillitate and perhaps even carry out the attacks.
Factor Aces observations into my argument earlier today that the MSM is not so much credulous and blinded by its hatred of all things non-progressive as it is cynically playing to the fact that we live in an cultural ethos wherein the philosophical substructures necessary for the progressive agenda to take rootamong them a credulous and politically disengaged majority (which forces politicians to give more weight to those who are engaged, who, on the left, tend to be the types who believe that short-term white lies or rhetorical dodges are a practicalindeed, a moraltool that in the end brings about the greater good, and so is justified) and an epistemology that privileges anti-foundationalism, identity politics, and linguistic totalitarianism, and it becomes clear that weve reached a similar ending point, but that we disagree with the nature of MSM and partisan complicity.
In general, Im willing to give the media the benefit of the doubtthey tend to go for the sensational, and many of their drones arent exactly the sharpest stingers in the colonybut when it comes to memes that they continue to push even after they have been thoroughly and completely problematized or outright debunked, then we can safely say that their intent has become something far more objectionable than merely selling newspapers.
In the course of my proddings over the last few years, Ive extracted, from the likes of Greenwald(s) and Mona, confessions that they, and many of their supporters in the ranks of true conservatives (read: progressives who started out as cutout conservatives to claim an epiphany) are willing to do anything and everythingincluding lying (which they would reframe as finessing the narrative) to achieve their ends.
That is, they have stated in no uncertain terms that lying in the service of larger truths is not a political sinand in fact, it is, in the perverse logic of arrogant, presumptuous, illiberal hacks, something of a badge of honor. Muddying the narrative waters, obstructing progress, keeping their political opponents constantly on the defensive: these are the tactics of progressivism, and are geared toward forcing their opponents to surrender the fight for wont of being able to elevate their own voices above the din.
So while I share Aces jaundiced view of the MSM, Ive come to think of them as less gullible than opportunistic, and far more cynical than simply credulous or blinded by hatred alone.
Because to be sure, they are blinded by ideological hatred; but they have taken to channeling that hatred into a willful attempt to control the electorate and shape public debate in a way that rises to the level of intentional advocacy.
But then, maybe both of us are wrongand what were seeing instead is a mass hallucination happening on the right, whereby we all went to bed on 910 and woke up on 911 as giant cockroaches.
