Kyoto Madness

A retired PCS executive writes;

Chapter 1: Have you been noticing that PCS, PotashCorp's, stock has been skyrocketing in the last 6 months. Know why???....Kyoto Madness....GHG emissions. Sounds funny but here is the real reason. It's all economics... If you go to PCS's annual meeting this next month..You will hear Bill Doyle, CEO say that an emerging market for PotashCorp is the bio fuel demand.... Which requires... corn... and guess what, corn demands potash.

So the corn is being sold as fuel rather as food. Methanal producers are willing to pay more for a bushel of corn than food producers (good for PCS and good for farmers). In additon acreage for other crops such as wheat, sorghum, soy, cotton, lentils etc.. are being re-sowed to produce corn stock for methanol.

American farmers will produce corn for fuel rather than food if they can get a better return. Replacing acreage to corn will cause a rise in price for the other agricultural products as they become short in supply as acreage is reduced. (bad for the consumer)

American meat production that has historically increased by about 2 % per year, is in decline as feed (corn) is going to the production of fuel rather than producing protein for animals.

Chapter 2: China's output of protein has increased. This is the second punch in the increase of PotashCorps share increase.

It takes 2 lbs. of grain to get 1 lb. of chicken, It takes 5 lb. of grain to get 1 lb. pound of pork, and 7 lb. of grain to get 1 lb. of beef.

China's GDP has been increasing, and when you now have a multi billion population with disposable income, they are wanting to eat better, and that will mean they want MEAT. (Refer to any PCS publication in the last 2 years) . In addtion, the Chinese see a growing market in North America for Grain as the Americas use their grain for methanol.

Where does all the pet food come from lately.... See the call backs....Kate you have dogs... where is your dog food produced? Where do you think people food will produced in the future?

So in the end, North Americans will grow food to produce gas, and the Chinese will grow food to feed us. (hopefully a little better quality than the pet food) The ironic thing about this is that we North Americans had the most efficient GHG and low polluting technologies available to produce food, and we are now going to turn our Ag business over to a Third world country that doesn't give a hoot about CO2 emissions..

But if you analyze this we have slowly turned over other manufacturing industrys to China (where do you think Walmart gets their stuff from).

China is adding 500 coal powered electrical plants in the next 10 years to meet their energy and new manufacturing production requierments. If you do the math, that's about a coal fired CO2 monster every month. How many power plants does Canada build each month, let alone each year?

Flash! Flash! China is not signatory to Kyoto.

China is gearing up to provide the goods to fulfill the world market that will exist when we shutdown our manufacturing sector in a self flagelation penance, as preached by Dion, Layton, Suzuki et al... in the name of Kyoto.

China's yearly Increase in CO2 equals the total amount of CO2 that Canada produces in a whole year. So if Canada was to turn off everything that produced CO2 ie.... cars, Suv's, etc , all electricty, all home heating, all transportation, air travel, etc...we would have only achieved 1 year of grace as China's increase in 1 year will equal all that we produce. Why in God's name would we accommodate the transfer of Canadian manufacturing to a less efficient Chinese theatre?

Such is life.

“Despite Rise in Gun Crime in Britain, ABC News Trumpets UK’s Handgun Ban”

—Which, what a perfect companion piece to your network “news” division’s spiked poll results!  Remember:  service the narrative!  From Newsbusters:

World News Sunday continued ABC’s gun control crusade, devoting its “A Closer Look” segment to how after the 1996 school shooting in Dunblane, Scotland, Great Britain virtually banned handguns, suggesting [a gun ban is] worth emulating.

[...]

[ABC reporter David] Wright featured two Britons exasperated by the refusal of the U.S. to follow Britain’s lead. Gun control activist Ann Pearston contended: “What ordinary people have got to do in the United States, if they really care about what happened at Virginia Tech, is to make the banning of firearms in the United States an election issue.” Mick North, the father of a child killed in the Dunblane incident, fretted: “Nothing happened after Columbine. Nothing happened after Nickel Mines in the Amish community. After a few weeks, nothing will happen after Virginia Tech. Even the death of 32 people may not be enough to build up the necessary momentum.”

What’s interesting to note here is that, in the course of his report, Wright was careful to supply the argument’s reservation—admitting that gun crime has actually increased in Britain after the ban.  What hasn’t happened, however, is another school shooting, which, as Newsbusters suggests, “sounds more like good luck than a result of the ban”—but which was nevertheless presented as the benefit of a disarmed populace at the mercy of those who aren’t predisposed to follow gun laws in the first place.

That the report would be framed in favor of gun control and gun bans even though the evidence itself clearly shows that the bans have had precisely the opposite effect from the one its backers intended, is yet another instance where the “reality-based” community stubbornly refuses to admit that what the want to happen, as opposed to what actually happens as a result of their social engineering policies, is not the proper way, empirically speaking, to justify a continuation of bad policy—or, in this case, a willful push to spread failed policy in the service of a world view that is routinely pimpslapped by the law of unintended consequences.

Web 2.0 and the Right

Robert Cox has an excellent piece at the Examiner today about how far conservatives and Republicans lag behind those on the left in the Web 2.0 world. In particular, Cox discusses the Google/Wikipedia dominance.

To better appreciate the dilemma now facing the right in a Web 2.0 world, it may be instructive to look at one example of how the right is losing in the online arms race -- the nexus between Google, Wikipedia and far-left blogs and online forums.

When you are talking online, you are really talking Google, which has become the dominant interface for the Internet. According to a recent Nielsen/NetRatings survey, 55.8 percent of all searches done on the Internet now go through Google (other sources put this figure as high as 70 percent).

And what do Internet users find when they search Google?

Sam Vaknin, an award-winning author and Ph.D, tracked 154 keywords in Google from 1999 to 2006. According to Vaknin's unscientific study, Wikipedia, launched in 2001, is now the No. 1 search result for 128 out of 154 keywords (83 percent).

Perhaps more significantly, 38 out of 128, or 30 percent, of Wikipedia articles listed as the No. 1 result are one or two sentence "stubs"; 10 of the 128 (36 percent) are "placeholder" articles -- empty pages that Google has placed high up in the results regardless of length or quality.

In other words, Google is now manipulating its search results to force Wikipedia entries to the top whether the entry contains useful information or not. Not surprisingly, Google now accounts for 50 percent of Wikipedia's traffic, boosting Wikipedia to become the sixth most visited Web site in the world (Google is number two behind Microsoft).

The significance of this becomes more apparent when one understands how people use Google search result data. According to an Eye Fixation Study done at Cornell University in 2004, the first two listings in Google search results capture over half of the user's attention and the first listing is clicked on by more than half of the users.

Through its manipulation of search results, Google has anointed Wikipedia as the preeminent source of information online which raises the question: Who are the Wikipedians and what do they want?

Follow the link above for the answer. Cox also looks at Democrat vs. Republican success in raising money for candidates on the internet. Read it all.

A Democrat is Moved to Action

Given the level of hysteria that is constantly being whipped up by the Party of Hate, we've worried for a while that someone is going to get hurt. Cases of voter intimidation and violence against Republican campaign headquarters were widely reported during the last election cycle. A Democratic poster whom we had to ban from the Power Line Forum recently went to the home of a Republican campus leader and assaulted him, resulting in criminal charges.

Most recently, a Democrat and former political candidate named Matthew Hunter Kramer has been arrested for threatening the executive director of the Republican Party of Nevada with a rifle, tearing photos of President Bush and Vice-President Cheney off the wall of the party's headquarters, threatening staffers at the Republican Party's office, and "warning that he would be back if President Bush vetoed an emergency war spending bill being considered by Congress."

It's no secret that Democrats are trying to bully their way back into power. But bullying with rifles--as well as "swords, knives, a flare gun, a shotgun and shells," which also were found in Kramer's car, ups the ante considerably. I'll say it again: if the Democrats keep up their campaign of hate, someone is going to get hurt.

RADLEY BALKO:

If there's one positive that might come out of the Duke imbroglio, it's that the unusual demographics of the parties involved and alliances it spawned may mean some much-needed new scrutiny of the criminal justice system, and win welcome new advocates for reform.

Nifong is by no means the only overly aggressive prosecutor in this country. And Durham is by no means the only jurisdiction where the wrong people have been wrongly accused. As Seligmann suggested, the only real difference may have been that the Duke players had the resources to fight back. Many others don't.

Examples abound.

A 2002 audit of the crime lab in Houston, Texas, found that experts may have given "false and scientifically unsound" testimony in thousands of criminal cases. Subsequent reports showed that crime lab employees often tailored their tests to fit police theories about how a crime was committed. The city is finishing up a $5.5 million review of 2,300 cases, including death penalty cases.

In 2003, Texas Gov. Rick Perry pardoned 35 mostly black residents of Tulia, Texas, who had been prosecuted for drug crimes based on testimony from undercover police officer Tom Coleman. Coleman, once named Texas "Police Officer of the Year," was found to have manufactured evidence from whole cloth.

Just last month in Maryland, self-styled ballistics expert Joe Kopera committed suicide after it was revealed that he lied about his expertise and training. Kopera had testified in hundreds of criminal trials over 40 years, many of which may need to be reopened.

A 2005 audit found critical errors in the state of Virginia's crime lab, considered one of the best in the country. The audit found that senior-level experts in the lab were too often persuaded by political pressure to secure convictions. The audit was ordered after the exoneration of Earl Washington Jr., a man who served 17 years on Virginia's death row.

These are merely examples from the last several years, and they're by no means comprehensive. Here's hoping that the most vocal critics of Mike Nifong and the Durham justice system that relentlessly pursued the Duke lacrosse players — many of whom don't generally speak out on criminal justice issues — will see the case as more than just an example of media bias or reverse discrimination.

I've been writing about this kind of thing since the very earliest days of InstaPundit, but, I have to say, to no great effect. I'm not sure why people don't care about this more, but they don't. Perhaps they're afraid of what they'll find if they look too closely?

RECYCLING NUCLEAR WASTE:

Later this year, scientists at Oak Ridge National Laboratory in Tennessee hope to take a big step toward solving America's nuclear-waste woes. Pending clearance from the Department of Energy, they will demonstrate a new toxic-waste recycling process.

The aim of the demo—part of a controversial $405-million government project called the Global Nuclear Energy Partnership (GNEP)—is to transform nuclear leftovers into fuel for a new breed of reactors. The new reactor/fuel combo, GNEP officials say, could produce up to 100 times as much energy as conventional reactors and could generate 40 percent less waste.

One way or another, we need more nice, clean, greenhouse-friendly nuclear plants.

MICKEY KAUS: "Obama has apparently just endorsed one of the worst ideas of Carter era liberalism, 'comparable worth,' which would have lawyers and judges deciding what every job is 'worth' according to some bureaucratic, non-market criteria that would inevitably punish 'unskilled' manual work--i.e, the very workers who are screwed the most by globalization. Are truckdrivers really paid too much?"

I think Mickey's losing enthusiasm for Obama.

I left Holland 30 yrs ago precisely because I saw this happening. After the Oil crisis, we started getting a large influx of Turks and Moroccans. Most went on welfare, no education, and extremely poor work ethics and didn’t want to fit in.

They moved in and overwhelmed entire neighbourhoods and brought them down to 3rd world levels, just awful. They have never wanted to blend in(integrate) and now they complain that they are shunned or left out.

I remember some little Turkish kid that I caught trying to steal a bike, say to me in 1974, “F@#% you man, in 30 yrs we’re gonna own this country”. I never thought that would come true, but when I read what’s going on now, I guess he was right after all.

For more then 30 yrs the Saudis have been paying for mosques across the west and for muslims to file lawsuits to get their goal of the islamification of the West, it appears to be working doesn’t it?

I am sure glad I'm there anymore, but now I worry about here. Where can I go now to get away from these Islamo-fascists.

Kucinich: ItÂ’s More Practical To Impeach Cheney

April 25th, 2007

From USA Today:

Photo

Kucinich says it’s more ‘practical’ to impeach Cheney than Bush

After briefly delaying while Vice President Cheney was at the doctorÂ’s office, Democratic presidential candidate Rep. Dennis Kucinich of Ohio went ahead Tuesday and filed three articles of impeachment against the vice president.

Kucinich told The Plain Dealer that the Bush administration is guilty of “fabricating a threat of Iraqi weapons of mass destruction” to lead the nation into war with Iraq. But he isn’t going after the president, Kucinich said, because he wouldn’t want to see Cheney become president if Bush were removed from office.

This morning on CNN, Kucinich said he believes it “is time someone in Congress stood up” to challenge the administration as he is.

Will anything come of this? Kucinich does not have the support of his own partyÂ’s leaders:

House Speaker Nancy Pelosi told The Plain Dealer that Democratic leaders don’t back impeachment “because we are here to go in a positive direction for the American people” and are focusing instead on stopping the Iraq war.

Mr. Kucinich is all about practicality.

Subpoenaville

Democrats turned up the heat on the White House today by approving several subpoenas and granting immunity to a key aide to Alberto Gonzales. Monica Goodling...This does not bode well for the White House. Practically speaking, though, these subpoenas will have little effect. Rice will go before Congress and tell them -- again -- that they saw the intelligence prior to the Iraq invasion, and that it was basically the same as it was during the Clinton administration. No one faked anything, and the one piece that people use to claim Bush lied (a) was based on Joe Wilson's misrepresentation of his findings in Niger, and (b) still backed by British intelligence, where it originated.Posted by Ed Morrissey at 12:41 PM | Comments (8)

Jonathan Kay;

The reason multiculturalism now seems like such a fraud is that experience has taught us that old-school racism has nothing on the sort of hatreds brought into this country by the immigrants themselves: hatred toward homosexuals, toward heretics, toward "loose" women and, most importantly, toward each other.

It's hard to get too riled up about Don Imus or alleged "racial profiling" by cops, for instance, when I see Canada becoming home to African blacks who have been charged with murdering other blacks by the villageful for the crime of belonging to the wrong tribe. Ditto when I watch Canadian Sikhs who are so proud that one of their coreligionists murdered another group of South Asian Canadians that they hold a parade partly in his honour. And then there's the Liberal candidate in Edmonton- Mill Woods-Beaumont, who will have to explain to his constituents what he meant with his attacks on Israel, India and France.

The Five Myths Of Harry

These have floated in and out of the blogosphere in various forms, but I thought it would be useful to CQ readers to see the counterarguments to Harry Reid's assertions in one easy format. I asked for some research from a friend connected to Capitol Hill on rebuttals, and he put together the resources on this. Enjoy.

MYTH #1:
General Petraeus Says The War Is A “Lost Cause”

SEN. HARRY REID (D-NV): Gen. Petraeus "Told" Our Troops That "They’re Fighting For A Lost Cause." CNN BASH: "Is there something to that, an 18- and 19-year-old person in the service in Iraq who is serving, risking their lives, in some cases losing their life, hearing somebody like you back in Washington saying that they're fighting for a lost cause?" REID: "General Petraeus has told them that.” BASH: "How has he said that?" REID: "He said the war can't be won militarily. He said that. I mean he said it. He's the commander on the ground there." (CNN's "The Situation Room," 04/23/07)

FACT:
General Petraeus Sees “Positive” Signs in Iraq

GEN. DAVID PETRAEUS: "While It Is Too Early To Judge The Success Of The Surge And The Emphasis On Population Security In Iraq, We Have Seen Some Positive Results – Though The Enemy Has Certainly Sought To Overshadow Our Achievements By Carrying Out Sensational Attacks." "… Your visible presence alongside Iraqi soldiers and police has begun to restore a sense of normalcy to many areas that have seen little other than violence over the past year. Your hard work ahs also led to the uncovering of sizable weapons caches, the detentions of a number of death squad and car bomb network members, the bringing to justice of a number of militia extremists, a decrease in the number of sectarian killings, and a renewal of commerce in many markets and neighborhoods." (Gen. David Petraeus, Letter To Soldiers Serving In Multi-National Force-Iraq, 04/14/07)

MYTH #2:
General Petraeus Does Not Know What Is Happening In Iraq

SEN. HARRY REID (D-NV): “I Don’t Believe Him.” Q: “…General Petraeus is going to come to the Hill and make it clear to you that there is progress going on in Iraq, that the so-called surge is working. Will you believe him when he says that?” SEN. REID (D-NV): “No, I don't believe him, because it's not happening. All you have to do is look at the facts.” (CNN’s “The Situation Room,” 04/23/07)

FACT:

David H. Petraeus:
Four-Star General, Commander, Multinational Forces-Iraq

Harry Reid:
Senator Who Doesn't Listen To Commanders of Military Forces

MYTH #3:
General Petraeus Says There Is No Military Solution

SEN. HARRY REID (D-NV): “…There Is No Military Solution In Iraq. General Petraeus, The Commander On The Ground, Has Said So Himself.” (Sen. Reid, “Reid: As Situation In Iraq Worsens, America Can And Must Change Course,” Press Release, 04/22/07)

FACT:
General Petraeus Believes “Improv[ing] The Security” With “Additional Forces” Is Necessary To Achieve A Political Solution

GEN. DAVID PETRAEUS: “I want to assure you that Lieutenant General Odierno and I would not have asked to maintain the surge force levels in Iraq – a request that led to your tour extensions – if we did not view the additional forces as being absolutely necessary to our ability to accomplish our mission. That mission – to help Iraq improve the security for its population – is intended to provide Iraqi leaders with an opportunity to begin to tackle the crucial issues that must be resolved to achieve a sustainable outcome in Iraq." (Gen. David Petraeus, Letter To Soldiers Serving In Multi-National Force-Iraq, 4/14/07)

MYTH #4:
General Petraeus Does Not Support the Surge

SEN. HARRY REID (D-NV): “Those We Trust The Most Do Not Believe Escalation Is The Right Way Forward. America’s Generals Don’t Support This.” (Sen. Reid, Congressional Record, S. 2507, 02/5/07)

FACT:
General Petraeus Testified In His Confirmation Hearing That ‘The Additional Forces’ For The Surge Were ‘Essential’

GEN. DAVID PETRAEUS: “The additional forces that have been directed to move to Iraq will be essential.” (Gen. Petraeus, Armed Services Committee, U.S. Senate, Hearing, 01/23/07)

MYTH #5:
General Petraeus Does Not Need Immediate Funding

SEN. HARRY REID (D-NV): The President's "Own Generals Have Said [Funding] Will Last Until The End Of June." (Sen. Reid, Press Conference, 04/3/07)

FACT:
The Army Chief Of Staff Stated ‘Draconian Measures’ Will Begin Without Funds In April

ARMY CHIEF OF STAFF GEN. PETER J. SCHOOMAKER: "We are particularly concerned as Congress is set to recess until mid-April without enacting this essential legislation. Without approval of the supplemental funds in April, we will be forced to take increasingly draconian measures which will impact Army readiness and impose hardships on our soldiers and their families." (Gen. Peter J. Schoomaker, Letter To Senate Republican Leader Mitch McConnell, 3/28/07)

UPDATE: Michelle Malkin has more great links. Also, Duncan Hunter has called for Harry Reid to resign as Majority Leader:

Rep. Duncan Hunter called Wednesday for Sen. Harry Reid to resign his post as Senate majority leader over remarks that the senator made last week that the war in Iraq "is lost" if the United States continues on its current policy.

Hunter, a candidate for the Republican presidential nomination, is the ranking member of the House Armed Services Committee.

"In my opinion Sen. Reid, having made that statement, which can only have a demoralizing effect on our troops and an effect of encouragement of the adversary, I think it would be appropriate for Sen. Reid to resign his position as the leader of the United States Senate," he said.

After basically calling Petraeus a liar and the war lost, it's hard to see what he could do for an encore. Bring on Dick Durbin! Er, maybe not ...

When Dems Attack

Howard Dean sent out this action alert today, after Rudy Giuliani stated some simple facts about the Democrats’ positions on terrorism.

Dear Friend,

Rudy Giuliani should be ashamed.

The former New York City Mayor is politicizing September 11th in his 2008 presidential bid. Here’s what he said at a recent campaign stop in New Hampshire:

“If a Democrat is elected president in 2008, America will be at risk for another terrorist attack on the scale of Sept. 11, 2001... Never ever again will this country ever be on defense waiting for (terrorists) to attack us if I have anything to say about it. And make no mistake, the Democrats want to put us back on defense!”

I won’t let this wannabe Republican nominee get away with remarks like these. Send a message to Rudy’s campaign headquarters and tell him to stop politicizing 9/11:

http://www.democrats.org/TellGiuliani

More than anyone, Rudy should understand the offensive meaning behind his remarks. When he stood at ground zero that tragic day, there weren’t any Republicans or Democrats — only Americans.

After trying to convince everyone that he was “America’s Mayor,” he now shows this sort of “leadership.”

I will not sit quietly while he takes the fallen heroes of September 11, 2001 to the campaign trail with him. It might win over the Republican Party, but it won’t win over the American people.

Rudy should know better.

Join me and send a message to Rudy’s headquarters and tell him that our country deserves better from a presidential candidate:

http://www.democrats.org/TellGiuliani

President Bush, not the Democratic Party, failed our country by never capturing the true culprit of the 9/11 attacks: Osama bin Laden.

Now, Rudy thinks he can take a page from President Bush and Dick Cheney’s playbook, using fearmongering to gin up support. The American people didn’t buy this sort of garbage in the 2006 midterm elections, and they’re not going to buy it in 2008.

Show Rudy — and all Americans — that the Democratic Party won’t stand for this sort of attack. We’re delivering this petition personally to the Giuliani for President campaign headquarters, so give Rudy a piece of your mind.

Demand an apology now:

http://www.democrats.org/TellGiuliani

Sincerely,

Gov. Howard Dean, M.D.

The left wing and “progressive” blogs are falling right in line and promoting this idiocy, as expected. Behold, the Democrat base.

Ismail Ax and the Prophet Moe

Release the damn transcripts. Enough with the cover up. Don't the dead and America, a country at war, deserve to know was is really happening? As I wrote here previously, we know Ismail Ax was written in red (color of blood) on  his arm, we know he signed his suicide note Ismail Ax and  sent an overnight package to NBC from A Ishmail, he made sure he had no other ID on his person after he martyred himself so  you can be sure he wanted to be remembered as Ismail Ax. This is and of itself is very telling. Shaving his head and from what I can see in his pictures and martyr video- his body (that's what they do - remember the 9/11 hijackers?) , must have added to law enforcement's suspicions which is why it so damning that they would say so early on that horrible day that "it was not tied to terrorism."

Joan Sharon wrote an eye opening piece at The New Media Journal:  Cho was a terrorist and Frank Salvato in the same publication has a must read:  Virginia Tech Slaughter Raises Many Questions. (Salvato's piece must be read before you continue.)

Now comes this from the Christian World View  Network here; hat tip Dave

I also spoke this morning, right after this meeting with a peace officer here in Virginia who had access too and has read some of the transcripts of the other ten videos that are not being shown on the news. The shooter (Cho) was quoting verses from the Koran and had Ishmael written on his arm and as his return address on the package sent to NBC.
[...]

This may never come out in the media and some may tend to disregard this but my source is a solid believer and a trustworthy officer who has personally read some of the transcripts.

The tie-in is carefully explained at Prophet of Doom here. It's lengthy - read it. I've excerpted here. "Every aspect of Cho’s rage, every nuance of his twisted and inverted morality, was lifted from the pages of Islam."

There have been many reports that Cho Seung-Hui, the Virginia Tech psychopath and mass murderer, signed his suicide note: "Ismail Ax," and that this slogan was scribbled on his arm in red ink prior to him snuffing out the lives of thirty-two innocent souls. The manifesto Cho mailed to NBC listed "Ismail Ax" as the madman’s alter ego. That package contained a picture of Cho wielding a hammer as if it were an axe. If any of these things is true, and they all appear to be, the killer was a modern-day incarnation of Muhammad, perpetrating mass murder in the name of Satan and Islam.

Ismail, more commonly transliterated, Ishmael, is considered the forefather of Islam. His name means "Muslim - one who submits."

Read it all.

The only way for anyone to fully appreciate the similarity between Muhammad’s and Cho’s manifesto is to read Prophet of Doom - Islam’s Terrorist Dogma in Muhammad’s Own Words. If you do, in Cho you will come to see Muhammad’s modern incarnation. And for the first time, you will understand the nature and spirit of Islam’s prophet. In Muhammad you will come to see why modern Muslims are terrorists. And for the first time, you will understand the deadly and destructive nature of the Islamic religion.

Since most people won’t invest fifty hours to save themselves and their family from Islam, I thought I’d tease you with a couple of interesting quotes in this regard. In Chapter 17 of Prophet of Doom, "Good Muslims Kill," you will find that Muhammad, like Cho, fancied himself to be like Jesus: Bukhari:V4B55N651-2 "I heard Allah’s Apostle saying, 'I am the nearest of all the people to Jesus. There has been no prophet between me and Jesus. All the prophets are paternal brothers; their mothers are different, but their religion is one.'" In actuality, just like Cho, Muhammad was the antithesis of the Messiah Yahshua (Jesus Christ). But in an ignorant and deceived world, this reality is not well known.

Of the Islamic "Jesus," we find: Bukhari:V4B55N657 "Allah’s Messenger said, 'Isa (Jesus), the son of Mariam, will shortly descend amongst you Muslims and will judge mankind by the law of the Qur'an. He will break the cross and kill the swine [Jews] and there will be no Jizyah tax taken from non-Muslims. Money will be so abundant no one will accept it. So you may recite this Holy Verse: "Isa (Jesus) was just a human being before his death. On the Day of Resurrection he (Jesus) will be a witness against the Christians."'

In Chapter 23 of Prophet of Doom, "Jihad," you will find that Muhammad, like Cho, fancied himself as a martyr: Bukhari:V4B52N54 "The Prophet said, 'Were it not for the believers who do not want to be without me, I would always go forth in army-units setting out for Jihad. I would love to be martyred in Allah’s Cause and then get resurrected and get martyred again only to be resurrected so that I could get martyred again.'"

Read it all.

Just Maybe, She Might Show Up

Henry Waxman's Orwellian-named Oversight and Government Reform Committee served Condoleezza Rice with a subpoena today, to testify on "what she knew about administration's warnings, later proven false, that Iraq had sought uranium from Niger for nuclear arms."

Where to begin. Actually, as we've pointed out many times, the weight of the evidence is that Iraq did, in fact, try to buy uranium from Niger. Beyond that, what President Bush actually said in his State of the Union speech--the famous "sixteen words"--was indisputably true. And beyond that, who cares?

This is another instance of the Democrats' crazed attempt to govern by subpoena. They are determined to dredge up and re-fight every battle of the last six years; this, apparently, is what they think the voters elected them to do. I think they're wrong, and that most people have little interest in seeing these hoary arguments resurrected one last--we hope--time. It is hard to imagine a less productive use of Henry Waxman's time. Well, let me rephrase that; it's hard to imagine a less productive use of Rice's time, which is actually valuable.

I don't know much about the ins and outs of executive privilege, but I wouldn't think Rice will agree to testify. Maybe that's the Dems' plan. Still, it's hard not to wish that, just once, a representative of the Bush administration would stand up to the Democrat bullies and make some coherent points.

Like, in this case, that the CIA told the Bush administration with a "high level" of confidence that Saddam was trying to acquire nuclear weapons; that the British still stand by their report that Saddam was looking for uranium in Africa; that Joe Wilson told the CIA that the former Prime Minister of Niger told him that he believed the Iraqi delegation was looking for yellowcake; that no one ever relied on those stupid forged documents.

I know, it's much too late to matter. I feel like an old Confederate soldier wishing that Longstreet had just gotten going and launched that damned attack. Still, just once, it would be nice to see someone from the administration stand up for herself.

Dream palace of the goo-goos revisited

President Bush did a very bad thing when he signed off on the Bipartisan Campaign Reform Act of 2002 (the McCain-Feingold bill). I took a whack at explaining how it strikes at the core of our freedoms in the Standard column "Dream palace of the goo-goos." While I was working on the column, attorney and former Federal Election Commission staffer Allison Hayward guided me through the intricacies of campaign finance regulation to help me make sure I would not make an ignorant mistake in trying to write about a subject that has become a field for specialists. Over at Skeptic's Eye Allison discusses the oral argument in the Wisconsin Right to Life case in the Supreme Court today. Over at NRO Andrew McCarthy makes me mad all over again at President Bush's failure to do the right thing and veto BCRA. Andy emphasizes a point that is implicit in Allison's report: the Bush administration (in the person of Deputy Attorney General Paul McNulty) is urging the Supreme Court to validate the most revoltingly unconstitutional provision of BCRA.

Could Things Get Worse?

Sure they could. At his Washington Post blog The Fix, Chris Cillizza assesses the Democrats' prospects for getting to the "holy grail" of Senate control--60 seats--over the next couple of election cycles. He thinks they aren't too bad:

The last time a party held 60 or more seats was three decades ago when Democrats had 61 seats in the 95th Congress (1977-1979). But, the combination of a toxic political environment for Republicans and a relatively small number of Democratic vulnerabilities has skilled observers -- including Fix friend and Roll Call columnist Stu Rothenberg -- starting to talk about the possibility of Democrats getting to 60 in the next two or four years.

***

There's no question that at this point in the 2008 cycle all signs point to Democratic gains. The American public long ago soured on both President Bush and the war in Iraq and there is little tangible evidence of a coming wholesale turnaround. Republicans have also been barraged by a series of troubling developments, from the mishandling of veterans care at Walter Reed to the ongoing investigation into the firing of eight U.S. Attorneys. Many Republican strategists thought their party had hit rock bottom on Election Day 2006, but the political reality is that things have gotten measurably worse since then.

The raw numbers also point to a strong Democratic year in 2008. Democrats have just 12 seats to defend as compared to 21 for Republicans -- by far the best ratio of the three Senate classes.

If present trends continue, the Republicans will indeed be in trouble in 2008, and given the seats at risk, they will likely suffer a net loss in the Senate regardless.

I wonder, though, whether the voters at large are as impressed by the Democrats' obsession with investigations as those inside the Beltway seem to be. The voters want Congress to do the public's business, not engage in partisan games. I think the Democrats are at some risk that voters may conclude they are using their majorities to pursue their war against the Bush administration rather than seek legislative solutions to problems. If that happens, the atmosphere in 2008 may not be as bad for Republicans as many now believe.

Still, right now the odds don't look good.

Y2Kyoto: In The Pockets Of Big Carbon

A Financial Times investigation on this century's version of the tulip trade*;

A Financial Times investigation has uncovered widespread failings in the new markets for greenhouse gases, suggesting some organisations are paying for emissions reductions that do not take place.

Others are meanwhile making big profits from carbon trading for very small expenditure and in some cases for clean-ups that they would have made anyway.

The growing political salience of environmental politics has sparked a “green gold rush”, which has seen a dramatic expansion in the number of businesses offering both companies and individuals the chance to go “carbon neutral”, offsetting their own energy use by buying carbon credits that cancel out their contribution to global warming.

The burgeoning regulated market for carbon credits is expected to more than double in size to about $68.2bn by 2010, with the unregulated voluntary sector rising to $4bn in the same period.

The FT investigation found:

■ Widespread instances of people and organisations buying worthless credits that do not yield any reductions in carbon emissions.

■ Industrial companies profiting from doing very little – or from gaining carbon credits on the basis of efficiency gains from which they have already benefited substantially.

■ Brokers providing services of questionable or no value.

■ A shortage of verification, making it difficult for buyers to assess the true value of carbon credits.

■ Companies and individuals being charged over the odds for the private purchase of European Union carbon permits that have plummeted in value because they do not result in emissions cuts.

Utah Pigs Quarantined Over National Food Scare

Close The Borders

Do it now.

The federal government announced Tuesday it will begin widespread testing of both human food and animal feed to determine to what extent melamine or other related chemicals may have crept into the diets of not just pets, but people.

U.S. Food and Drug Administration regulators said pet food tainted with melamine was sold to hog farms in as many as six states, and to a poultry farm in another.

The new federal testing, to begin this week, will target six vegetable protein sources commonly used in animal and human food products: wheat gluten, corn gluten, corn meal, rice bran, rice protein concentrate and soy protein.

The Al Muhajiroun Connection

Little Bulldogs has more detailed information on the six Muslims arrested on terrorism charges in the UK: Al Muhajiroun...Again.

The six men on the list are: Sulayman Keeler, Omar Brooks (Abu Izzadeen), Rajib Khan, Shah Jalal Hussain, Omar Zaheer and Ibraheem (Abdul Haq).

These men are all members of Al Muhajiroun (under its different names). Sulayman Keeler was the one who officially founded the “new” group Ahlus Sunnah wal Jamaah. Abu Izzadeen is well known. Shah Jalal Hussain is a member whose name came up in a Parliamentary Question from Mr Dismore to the Home Secretary David Blunkett way back in 2001. Omar Zaheer was arrested for his part in the Danish cartoons protest organised by Al Muhajiroun. Abdul Haq is also a spokesman for the group. The only one of the six who did not come up was Rajib Khan but by association it seems likely that he too is a member of this group.

The radical Islamic front group Al Muhajiroun was allowed to operate in the UK for many years, spreading jihad ideology and poisonous hatred in full view of British authorities. In 2003, they held a celebration:

I am, for the most part, a lurker here at LGF. Mostly because I am not as sharp-witted as many, and partly because I tend to let me emotions run away...well, here's to an anomaly.

I know the maxim that you get the government that you deserve is true...and we certainly have the government we deserve. Maybe not the "we" of LGF, but certainly the "We" (caps for clarity) of the USA. I can't even begin to chronicle the long list of disappointments generated by my government, but I believe this one tops the list. My naiveté has hurt me once again...but I never would have imagined the day, that our nation would be so divided while our armed forces are deployed in the field. Now I am not old enough to recall Viet Nam and thus my naive nature, but for our military to have performed so brilliantly, valiantly, and bravely...and to then be abandoned on the field of battle...man I just can't get my head around it. My ability to place this into any coherent thought is almost overwhelmed...but then I think about who We elected. If ever Ward Churchill had a time and place for "roosting chickens" this is it. It almost brings me to tears to contemplate the message this must send to our brave service men/women. We have let the principles of our own liberal democracy be turned against us by socialists , communists, and defeatists...otherwise known as the Democratic Party.

We will emerge from this, but the enemy has been emboldened by my countrymen and women, they have given aid and comfort, encouragement, and conviction to them. Traitors have no place in this great land and should be punished accordingly. If We don't find some collective backbone for the politicians to share, we are truly lost. We have enemy in our midst, more pouring in over an open border, planning and plotting the death of our children...our parents...our friends. We have let this happen to ourselves...and We deserve it. However...my kids don't deserve it...your kids don't deserve it. Damn it...we have to fight to take back what is ours.

Sorry for the incoherent babble...but I had to get this off my chest and my coworkers may get frightened if I do it out loud.

"Everything in Kirkuk is severe."

Another installment by Michael Totten, with the Iraqi Police in Kirkuk;

“If America pulls out of Iraq, they will fail in Afghanistan,” Mam Rostam said.

Hardly anyone in Congress seems to consider that the Taliban insurgency in Afghanistan might become much more severe if similar tactics are proven effective in Iraq.

“And they will fail with Iran,” he continued. “They will fail everywhere with all Eastern countries. The war between America and the terrorists will move from Iraq and Afghanistan to America itself. Do you think America will do that? The terrorists gather their agents in Afghanistan and Iraq and fight the Americans here. If you pull back, the terrorists will follow you there. They will try, at least. Then Iran will be the power in the Middle East. Iran is the biggest supporter of terrorism. They support Hezbollah, Hamas, Islamic Jihad, and Ansar Al Islam. You know what Iran will do with those elements if America goes away.”

Lest words lose their meaning

Bill Otis at the ACRU blog has launched a Dictionary of Poltical Correctness. Here are some of the first few entries:

Multiculturalism - Multiculturalism is a big word meaning, "The West stinks." The shorthand version is, "America stinks." Under multiculturalism, George Washington, a slave-owning white male with no accomplishments of note, is out, and Che Guevara, an anti-imperialist leader, is in.

Verbal violence - Verbal violence is a statement a liberal doesn't like but has trouble refuting analytically. Thus, if you say that hard-edged feminism is at odds with traditional families -- the kind in which children usually do best -- this is "verbal violence" against women, and you have to sit in the corner (or sit out the next semester, or attend the sensitivity class, etc.).

Bill has entertained me for years with this brand of insightful humor. Now he belongs to the blogosphere.

7/7 London Bombing Mastermind Captured

Media still at large;

The U.S. announced on Friday that it captured the mastermind behind the 7/7/2005 bombings in London.

But you would not know it by reading the New York Times, the Washington Post or the Associated Press.

None of them mentioned the London bombings in reporting on the capture of the man who organized that attack, Abd al-Hadi al-Iraqi (aka, Abu Abdallah).

Instead, reporters concentrated on where this major player in the war on terrorism was held after his capture.

Secret prisons! Gitmo! Oh, the humanity!

The same holds true for the CTV report and I can find no mention of the capture at all at the CBC website.

You have to go to the Times of London for the details North American media saw fit to omit;

The al-Qaeda leader who is thought to have devised the plan for the July 7 suicide bombings in London and an array of terrorist plots against Britain has been captured by the Americans.

Abd al-Hadi al-Iraqi, a former major in Saddam Hussein’s army, was apprehended as he tried to enter Iraq from Iran and was transferred this week to the “high-value detainee programme” at Guantanamo Bay.

Abd al-Hadi was taken into CIA custody last year, it emerged from US intelligence sources yesterday, in a move which suggests that he was interrogated for months in a “ghost prison” before being transferred to the internment camp in Cuba.

Abd al-Hadi, 45, was regarded as one of al-Qaeda’s most experienced, most intelligent and most ruthless commanders. Senior counter-terrorism sources told The Times that he was the man who, in 2003, identified Britain as the key battleground for exporting al-Qaeda’s holy war to Europe.

Terror in America: Connect the Dots

Let's connect the dots on the recent Islamic terror busts in the UK and  USA. The terror arrests made the other day in the UK and Wednesday in NY are linked to the Al-Muhajiroun. Al-Muhajiroun members  move on up to al-Qaeda. According to Bill Warner, Al-Muhajiroun is the mouthpiece, the propaganda voice for Al Qaeda. And many Al-Muhajiroun members have become Al Qaeda operatives. And  it was the motley remains of al Mujahiroun who protested in London today.

LTTE also known as The Tamil Tigers is linked to Al Qaeda.  Al Qaeda is linked to LTTE aka Tamil Tigers. The guy who was arrested in Queens on Wednesday was the North American head of LTTE aka Tamil Tigers. Tamil moves in N orthAmerica cause concern -ISN News

Tamil Tigers rep arrested in NYC FOX News

NEW YORK -- The top U.S. representative of the Tamil Tigers, a rebel group designated as a foreign terrorist organization, orchestrated a covert campaign to finance its escalating conflict with military forces in Sri Lanka, federal prosecutors said Wednesday.

Karunakaran Kandasamy, 50, was ordered held without bail in New York on charges of providing material support to terrorists. If convicted, he faces up to 15 years in prison. Read it all.

The Justice Department's report on the bust is here. Mohammed Junaid Babar from Queens is one of those al qaeda members.

Read this for more on the Tamil Tigers.

Tamil moves in N America cause concern hat tip Bill Warner

Experts say Sri Lankan Tamil Tigers' recent attempts to buy weapons in New York either show the group's desperation or a possible precursor to international terrorist attacks.

Russian Mafia, Tamil Tigers and Al-Qaeda hat tip Bill Warner, WBPIBI
‘Another channel for al Qaeda to attack US, courtesy LTTE’

These are the facts. Two major terrorist recruiters and or supporters of terrorism lived virtually next door to each other for over 3 years on Cedarcroft Rd in Queens NY.

Mohammed Junaid Babar was a major recruiter for al-Muhajiroun and he evolved into an Al-Qaeda operative linked to numerous bomb plots in the USA and the UK.  Babar was arrested In Queens in April of 2004  and charged with providing material support to a foreign terrorist organization and was involved in fund raising for al-Muhajiroun.

Karunakaran Kandasamy the suspected head of the U.S. branch of Sri Lankan rebel group the Tamil Tigers aka LITE was arrested in Queens New York on Wednesday 4/25/2007 and charged with providing material support to a foreign terrorist organization.  As the director of the U.S. branch of the Tamil Tigers, which is based in Queens, New York, Kandasamy oversaw the organization's activities, including its fund-raising, prosecutors said.

In its early days, experts say, the LTTE trained with the Palestine Liberation Organization, and the group may still come into contact with other terrorist organizations through the illegal arms trade.

Al-Qaeda follows LTTE text book on terror faithfully London, 12 February, (Asiantribune.com): Glen Jenvey a specialist on international terrorism has drawn the copycat terror tactics of Al Qaeda borrowed from the textbooks of Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE) – a banned terrorist organization by the international community.

In an analysis of the lead given by the LTTE for other terrorists organizations to follow, he has highlighted LTTE as the mastermind that sets the pattern for organization like Al Qaeda to pursue global terrorism.

He has drawn the pattern of terror tactics followed by Al Qaeda after the example was set by the LTTE.

Glen Jenvey focuses on the following acts of terror followed by Al Qaeda after the LTTE has set the examples.

There are distinct similarties is style.

Fact one: The LTTE invented the modern suicide bomber and deployed it into all their rank's against both political, military and civilian targets. You now see Islamic groups copy the LTTE with suicide attack's.

Fact two The LTTE attack shipping off the coast of Sri Lanka blowing ships or piracy. We then saw attacks on the USS Cole off Yemen and then you see piracy off the coast of Somalia a strong hold for Al-Qaeda followers.

Fact three The LTTE attacked the World Trade Centre in Sri Lanka you then see attack's by Al-Qaeda on the World Trade Centre in New York, America.

Fact four The LTTE has a women's section deployed into it's rank's.  Al-Qaeda and Chechen terrorist's who took over the Russian theatre, use black widow women suicide bombers.

Fact five : Attack's on civilians in bus and trains in Sri Lanka where innocent passengers were killed, Al-Qaeda in London bombed public civilian transport in the 7/7 attack's on London transport.

UPDATE: More ties: Tigers sold Norwegian passports to al-Qaeda

TORONTO: The Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE) have stolen Norwegian passports and sold them to the al-Qaeda organisation to earn money, Norwegians Against Terrorism Organisation chief spokesman Falk Rovik said.

And from the Sunday Times: Possible links between LTTE and al-Qaeda;

For the second year running a prestigious international institute has highlighted possible links between the LTTE and al-Qaeda, the terrorist organisation allegedly responsible for the 9/11 attacks on the United States and other bombings.

The International Institute for Strategic Studies (IISS), the London-based think tank has referred to links between the two organisations both of which are banned as terrorist organisations in several countries.

In its latest issue of the Military Balance 2007 which analyses important world developments and the military hardware of state and non-state actors, IISS however talks of possible commercial links between the LTTE and al-Qaeda and makes no reference to any military connections between them.

IISS was the first international think-tank to publicly announce LTTE’s acquisition of air power. Three years ago the IISS in its Military Balance reported that the LTTE had acquired light aircraft and helicopters.
[...]
“It is possible that the LTTE is using its merchant ships to help transport weapons from al-Qaeda to its cells or support groups in other countries,” one analyst told The Sunday Times.

UPDATE: Keith in India (a country fighting the jihad) adds, "don't forget to mention that the LTTE terror group also murdered the Indian Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi in 1991. India too has suffered from the scourge of these killers."

Clinton Says Her Phony Southern Twang Is A Virtue

From her undying fans at the Associated Press

Hillary’s southern twang is about as authentic as her fan-dom for the New York Yankees.

But who knew that “talking black” constituted speaking another language?

34 Comments » "And did anyone else notice her EXTREMELY condescending remark? When she mentioned lifting up the Oval Office rug and finding stuff underneath, she said, “Why is it we always have to clean up after others?”"

…”I’m taking a language development class right now and am currently in the chapter about Black English.”…

You mean ‘cracker talk’? That is what ebonics is.
They admonish each other not to ‘talk white’ but that is exactly what they do. Poor white trash English.
Cultural traits followed blacks out of the south into the urban ghettos. The way of talking, later known as ‘black english’, followed the dialects brought from parts of Britain from which white southerners came. Those speech patterns have since died out in Britain and among most southern whites, but they have persisted in poor black ghettos. Such dialect didn’t come from Africa.

Scandals and "Scandals"

Eleanor Clift's current column in Newsweek is unremarkable, but I was struck by this line:

With an unpopular war, scandals consuming the White House and a two-party system paralyzed by partisanship, voters are looking for an outsider, somebody who’s not tainted by politics as usual.

That's the liberal line, of course: the White House is consumed by scandals. Certainly Newsweek, along with pretty much every other mainstream news outlet, has done its best to convey this impression. But what, exactly are they talking about? Are there actual scandals, or faux "scandals" that die like a mayfly when the day's news cycle is over?

The truth is that the Bush administration has been extraordinarily scandal-free. Not a single instance of corruption has been unearthed. Only one significant member of the executive branch, Scooter Libby, has been convicted of anything. Whether the jury's verdict was right or wrong, that case was an individual tragedy unrelated to any underlying wrongdoing by Libby or anyone else.

What other "scandals" are consuming the White House? Eight United States Attorneys, who are political appointees serving at the pleasure of the President, were replaced. So what? Was it a scandal when Bill Clinton replaced all 93? So far, not a single fact--I'm drawing here the subtle distinction between "fact" and "speculation" that so often escapes our liberal pundits--has emerged to render the replacement of those Justice Department employees scandalous in any respect.

Last week's "scandal" was Henry Waxman's rather bizarre hearing on the Pat Tillman and Jessica Lynch cases. There was indeed a mini-scandal connected with Jessica Lynch. It was a media scandal. The Washington Post rushed into print the story of Lynch's supposed heroics, based on an anonymous report from a "U.S. official." (Note that the Post did not say the "official" was even in the military.) The Army itself never made any claims whatever about Lynch's "heroism," and reportedly tried to warn the Post off the story. But the Post's position is that any leak must be true, as long as it's anonymous.

In an op-ed in yesterday's New York Times, Michael DeLong, who at the time was the deputy commander of United States Central Command, tells what really happened:

The initial reports from the field regarding Private Lynch stated that she had gone down fighting, had emptied her weapon and that her actions were heroic. Based on these reports, politicians from her home state, West Virginia, wanted the military to award her the Medal of Honor. Their request rose up the ladder until finally it reached me.

But initial combat reports are often wrong. Time must always be taken to thoroughly investigate all claims. In the case of Private Lynch, additional time was needed, since she was suffering from combat shock and loss of memory; facts, therefore, had to be gathered from other sources. The military simply didn’t know at that point whether her actions merited a medal.

This is why, when the request landed on my desk, I told the politicians that we’d need to wait. I made it clear that no one would be awarded anything until all of the evidence was reviewed.

The politicians did not like this. They called repeatedly, through their Congressional liaison, and pressured us to recommend her for the medal, even before all the evidence had been analyzed. I would not relent and we had many heated discussions.

The politicians repeatedly said that a medal would be good for women in the military; I responded that the paramount issue was finding out what had really happened.

So, along with the Washington Post, the villains of the story are politicians from West Virginia. Let's see: every member of West Virginia's Congressional delegation but one is a Democrat, and the Democrats control West Virginia's legislature. So the targets of Waxman's investigation should have been the Washington Post and the Democratic Party, not the military, which never uttered a false word about Lynch.

The Tillman case is only slightly less silly. The commander on the ground made the foolish decision not to tell Tillman's brother Kevin, who was nearby when Pat was killed, that the cause was friendly fire. So the version originally released by those on the ground in Afghanistan was that Pat was killed in an encounter with the enemy. That was stupid. But an investigation was done, and when the matter worked its way up the chain of command, the original decision was reversed, and, only a month or so after Tillman's death, the correct story was released to the public. Far from being a case where senior generals or politicians tried to cover up the circumstances, as was falsely suggested by Kevin Tillman, the exact opposite happened: it was some combination of senior generals and politicians who learned the truth and quickly made it public.

These "scandals" obviously have no legs, but that isn't the point. Waxman has already moved on to a new one, issuing subpoenas to Condoleezza Rice and George Tenet to testify about Saddam's efforts to obtain uranium. And so it goes. Waxman hasn't even gotten to 2005 yet; he can keep this going through the rest of the Bush administration, and his committee is only one of many.

The purpose of these faux "investigations" of faux "scandals" is to further sully the image of President Bush, and to allow liberal reporters and pundits like Eleanor Clift to write that the White House is "consumed by scandals." Did Obama Blow The Debate?

That's the question I pose at Heading Right, after the Washington Post reports that Hillary Clinton has focused on Barack Obama's less-than-muscular response to a hypothetical question about a terrorist attack on the US. What did Obama miss that Hillary, John Edwards, and Bill Richardson get right -- and is it the Kitty Dukakis question of this primary season?

Mexifornia, 5 Years Later

In the 1970s, perhaps a few million illegals resided in the United States, and their unassimilated presence went largely unnoticed. Most Americans felt that the formidable powers of integration and popular culture would continue to incorporate any distinctive ethnic enclave, as they had so successfully done with the past generations that arrived en masse from Europe, Asia, and Latin America. But when more than 10 million fled Mexico in little over a decade—the great majority poor, without English, job skills, a high school education, and legality—entire apartheid communities in the American Southwest began springing up.

During the heyday of multiculturalism and political correctness in the 1980s, the response of us, the hosts, to this novel challenge was not to insist upon the traditional assimilation of the newcomer but rather to accommodate the illegal alien with official Spanish-language documents, bilingual education, and ethnic boosterism in our media, politics, and education. These responses only encouraged more illegals to come, on the guarantee that their material life could be better and yet their culture unchanged in the United States. We now see the results. Los Angeles is today the second-largest Mexican city in the world; one out of every ten Mexican nationals resides in the United States, the vast majority illegally.

[...]

In my own experience, the slow progress made in rural California since the 1950s of my youth—in which the county inspected our farm’s rural dwellings, eliminated the once-ubiquitous rural outhouse, shut down substandard housing, and fined violators in hopes of providing a uniform humane standard of residence for all rural residents—has been abandoned in just a few years of laissez-faire policy toward illegal aliens. My own neighborhood is reverting to conditions common about 1950, but with the insult of far higher tax rates added to the injury of nonexistent enforcement of once-comprehensive statutes. The government’s attitude at all levels is to punish the dutiful citizen’s misdemeanors while ignoring the alien’s felony, on the logic that the former will at least comply while the latter either cannot or will not.

Fairness about who is allowed into the United States is another issue that reflects class divides—especially when almost 70 percent of all immigrants, legal and illegal, arrive from Mexico alone. Asians, for example, are puzzled as to why their relatives wait years for official approval to enter the United States, while Mexican nationals come across the border illegally, counting on serial amnesties to obtain citizenship.

These class divisions cut both ways, and they help explain the anomaly of the Wall Street Journal op-ed page mandarins echoing the arguments of the elite Chicano studies professors. Both tend to ridicule the far less affluent Minutemen and English-only activists, in part because they do not experience firsthand the problems associated with illegal immigration but instead find millions of aliens grist for their own contrasting agendas. Indeed, every time an alien crosses the border legally, fluent in English and with a high school diploma, the La Raza industry and the corporate farm or construction company alike most likely lose a constituent.

[...]

[T]his spring Americans witnessed millions of illegal aliens who not only were unapologetic about their illegal status but were demanding that their hosts accommodate their own political grievances, from providing driver’s licenses to full amnesty. The largest demonstrations—held on May Day, with thousands of protesters waving Mexican flags and bearing placards depicting the communist insurrectionist Che Guevara—only confirmed to most Americans that illegal immigration was out of control and beginning to become politicized along the lines of Latin American radicalism. I chronicled in Mexifornia the anomaly of angry protesters waving the flag of the country they vehemently did not wish to return to, but now the evening news beamed these images to millions. In short, the radical socialism of Latin America, seething in the angry millions who flocked to support Venezuela’s Hugo Chávez, Bolivia’s Evo Morales, and Mexico’s Andrés López Obrador, had now seemingly been imported into our own largest cities.

Bostom: The Muslim Mainstream and the New Caliphate

Andrew Bostom fills in the historical background for the recently reported survey of Muslims that found enormous support for shari’a law and the establishment of a caliphate: The Muslim Mainstream and the New Caliphate.

Polling data just released (April 24, 2007) in a rigorously conducted face-to-face University of Maryland/ WorldPublicOpinion.org interview survey of 4384 Muslims conducted between December 9, 2006 and February 15, 2007—1000 Moroccans, 1000 Egyptians, 1243 Pakistanis, and 1141 Indonesians—reveal that 65.2% of those interviewed (almost 2/3, hardly a “fringe minority”) desired this outcome (i.e., “To unify all Islamic countries into a single Islamic state or Caliphate”), including 49% of “moderate” Indonesian Muslims. The internal validity of these data about the present longing for a Caliphate is strongly suggested by a concordant result: 65.5% of this Muslim sample approved the proposition “To require a strict [emphasis added] application of Shari’a law in every Islamic country.”

Notwithstanding ahistorical drivel from Western Muslim “advocacy” groups such as the Muslim Association of Britain, which lionizes both the Caliphate and the concomitant institution of Shari’a as promulgators of “a peaceful and just society,” the findings from the University of Maryland/ WorldPublicOpinion.org poll are ominous.

Fox Derangement Syndrome

The angry left is ranting, gloating, and raving at Digg.com, about a ThinkProgress hit piece on a Fox News report that got some details wrong in the Ham of Hate story: Digg - Fox News Sinks To New Low, Reports Satirical Story As Actual News (video).

If you’ve ever wondered why every single LGF post is buried at Digg, this thread will answer the question for you. Note that several of the Diggbats attack LGF for reporting the story, even though our post was completely accurate. Because Fox News quoted a parody site incorrectly, they now assume that the entire story is false—and it is not. This is how leftist fables and distortions are planted in the moonbat base.

The hatred is so strong in these people that they’re completely blind.

George Jonas: an e-mail I received this week:

"Last Monday, April 16th, 4 a.m., near the hamlet of Craigmyle, Alberta, just southwest of Hanna, John Rew, age 50, was awakened to the sound of a SWAT smoke grenade smashing through his bedroom window," wrote my correspondent. "He was thrown face down on the floor and handcuffed instantly afterward, as a second smoke grenade exploded through his TV stand in the living room, burning a hole in the floor.

"The Drumheller RCMP, Calgary SWAT, and Red Deer SWAT had come for all his firearms, in particular his registered prohibited and restricted firearms, all legally registered to him.

"Although their search warrant did not include any residences, Rew agreed to lead them across the farmyard to his 80-year-old mother's house. Her basement contains Rew's storage facility. His mother, Betty, allowed them entry and was detained for her co-operative efforts. The masked, body-armoured, assault rifle equipped [police] got what they came for. Rew was hauled away, still in handcuffs. His alleged crime: allowing his F.A.C/P.A.L [gun permits] to expire. 2:30 that afternoon he was released, promising to appear in Drumhelller court 10 am May 25th 2007.

"The authorities shut down Rew's oilfield business for the day, turning his 20 employees away at the gate. His sister was not allowed entry to tend to their 80-year-old mother who had been devastated by the events of that morning. Ironically, the next day, April 17, our government announced an extension of the long gun registry amnesty for another year."

Note to readers: I haven't edited the e-mail forwarded to me, other than to correct typos and remove some judgmental words. Preliminary research indicates that Mr. Rew, who owns and operates an oil patch located on his farm, is an ordinary gun collector who -- at worst -- may not have complied with some paperwork. Did the gun police behave as thuggishly as it appears in the e-mail? I don't know. ...-

First, they came for the guns ?

STUART BUCK: "The way that our country treats chronic pain sufferers who use too much pain medication seems insane to me. I can't find any evidence that Oxycontin, say, is anywhere near as dangerous as alcohol -- i.e., tens of thousands of fatalities every single year. But we don't make people get a prescription to buy a beer, let alone throw people in jail for 25 years for having a bottle of vodka in the house."

Light Bulbs That Don't Signify Ideas

To: Jim Robinson; All
A thread with over 14,000 posts in it tends to be either very serious or very silly. I read a couple of thousands posts and have to admit that - as a European freeper - I don't know where to place this one in, there're lots of things I just don't understand, and a lot of things, I just don't like, esp. the foul language which is used even by the management...

So, I took a look at the stats:

Over 800 freepers participated in this thread, 30 freepers of those now show a blue screen (quidnunc KATIE-O kellynch shaylalala stuned_beeber jasoncann GenuineChocolateFace BeHoldAPaleHorse AZRepublican motzman Al Simmons sully777 Just sayin NGRY Sam Hill Pukin Dog habs4ever Dominic Harr Zeroisanumber 68 grunt cicero's_son oceanview Howlin RadioAstronomer meg88 debg B-bone justshutupandtakeit Peach Texasforever )

I don't now, how many "opused" or choose a kind of "inner emigration"...

To put this numbers in a context, I tried to get some stats of this site. At the homepage, it just states: Over 200,000 people have registered for posting privileges on Free Republic since inception in 1996 and our forum is read daily by tens of thousands of concerned citizens and patriots from all around the country and all around the world.

Using the fact, that every freeper has a unique id-number (now going up to something like 280.000), I took a sample of 1000 feasible id-numbers and had a closer look at them. Here are my results:

  • there are indeed ca. 200.000 accounts (either active or suspended)
  • 25% (ca. 50.000) of these are banned or suspended
  • another 40% (ca. 80.0000) of the accounts were never used to post
  • the remaining 35% (70.000) were used the last time in
    2001 2002 2003 2004 2005 2006 2007
    1.3 % 2.1 % 4.4 % 6.8 % 5.8 % 5.9 % 8.4 %
    2600 4200 8800 13,200 11,600 11,800 16,400
It seems to be fair to say that there are 16,400 active freepers. Ca. 5% of those took part in this very thread. But I think that most of us other active freepers had a look at it. And we'll observe the development of this site:
  • will it resemble a park where everyone willing to participate sensibly is welcomed as all the contributions add to the value of the site or
  • will it become a backyard where there is no place for different opinions?
BTB: Of course, no guarantee can be given for the numbers - though they seem to be reasonable guesses. I'd be glad if someone could give the actual values...

Daily Kos on Progressive Framing

The highly convoluted yet ultimately simplistic ideas of Berkeley professor George Lakoff (conservatives are “strict fathers,” leftists are “nurturant parents”) are a constant topic of debate and discussion and hamster-wheel spinning among the “progressive” Kos Kidz, and here’s their latest eye-glazing long-winded exploration: Daily Kos: Book Review: Jeffrey Feldman’s ‘Framing the Debate’.

It’s more than a little reminiscent of the manipulative cult-like techniques of Scientology. They spend an enormous amount of time and energy trying to get their “framing” just right.
