Yup. I think people realize that Kaiser Wilhem was a jerk. But he was not a madman, and he was not an ideologue. If Germany had won WWI and if France and Russia had lost, the whole aftermath of that would have been negligible and the 20th century would have avoided the nightmare of Bolshevism and the nightmare of Nazism.
As if France, and England were much better.
And don’t get me started on Belgium, after what Leopold did in The Congo.

I dunno. We expected a bloodbath if South Viet Nam fell. It happened next door and so our enemy the Vietnamese put a stop to it. Would our UN-involvement have prevented it? France was smart to get out.
If I remember correctly the death toll was somewhere between 1.5-3 million people in four years.

A very important part of this history is relevant today. The wonderful UN, who is currently demanding a cease-fire from Israel, didn’t lift a finger to stop the very real genocide in Cambodia. But it gets worse. Pol Pot and his regime was never pursued and prosecuted for obvious crimes against humanity. And, he was allowed to die peacefully, of old age, a free man.
This albatross should be around the UN’s neck until the UN is on the ash heap of history, where it belongs.

The Soviets had decades to do their killing, the Khmer Rouge were in power less than 4 years.

i would imagine that the complete eradication of the professional classes, leaving nothing but ignorant, uneducated peasants and the leveling of infrastructure to the stone age level played a bigger part ...
I definitely agree about the UN, however, in Cambodia, rumors persist that Pol Pot was actually poisoned.

I was in Cambodia a few months back. They are one of the most nicest people I have ever met traveling. Its hard to believe that genocide occurred there. Our guide told us the Khmer Rouge soldiers were not punished. Its like they just wanted to forgive and forget.
