You’re never supposed to ride in a trailer that’s being towed.
This is why.

You're never supposed to be in a trailer being towed. It's just not safe. Like that.

Thanks. I was always told the same thing.

I’m no expert at this but when moving on the road you’re supposed to be seated and buckled in as far as I recall. This is a prime example why. No roaming around in your motor home or trailer while hurtling down a highway.

Hmm, thismis really sad. I remember being with a bunch of my friends as a kid in the “people section” of a long horse trailer while driving to rodeos we competed in. We never had this happen.

And 487 comments in the original NY Post article say the same thing.

The wind helped the door open. I guess they were in reverse

Did she reach for the handle to stabilize herself, or...?
Passenger SIDE door, hmmm. Perhaps Airstream place the hinges on the OTHER side of the door so the wind can't help it open all the way while moving. Just a thought.

Absolutely not supposed to ride in a towed trailer. Safety education is necessary!

Pretty high end trailer(cost wise)
I’m surprised they had a design where
wind from forward motion allowed door
to open fully.

I can't imagine riding in a towed trailer could be very comfortable.
A non-idiot would conclude that's why they also make motorhomes and travel buses.

My grandfather owned multiple Airstream trailers over the course of his life and I went on a lot of trips with him. He never allowed me to ride in it when we were moving. Not once no matter how hard I begged.

If only the overeducated prominent pediatrician had consulted with a certified Airstream engineer who had published papers about this hazard, she would have had the expert knowledge to avoid this tragedy.
The rest of us dopes just use common sense.

These things have double locks on the door.
2024 airstream, maybe the first trip.
Never liked the idea of people in the trailer while on the road, it’s legal as long as certain characteristics are met

Even Lucy learned this trying to fix dinner for Nicky (he wasn’t Ricky in the movie, the Long Long Trailer).
So it’s been known since at least 1954

Feel through the door? Was the door in the floor?
