You just quoted Hellery
Now, what is the true cause of the John F. Kennedy Jr. plane crash?
“The Beechcraft line of private airplanes have been death traps”
I learned in a Beechcraft Skipper and there was nothing “death trap” about it.
It took 65 years to discover the pilot wasn’t instrument rated? Why?
That was Waylon Jennings.
You’re welcome. I ran across it a couple days ago. As a musician myself, I have been curious about the conditions of their demise. It is an interesting read, not groundbreaking by any means, but a clear and concise rendering of the events.
Somebody found Buddy Holly’s glasses in the field years later.
Buddy Holly Museum in Lubbock is amazing.
“Now, what is the true cause of the John F. Kennedy Jr. plane crash?”
Flying at night over water in VFR weather, no moonlight, and some haze. Although legal VFR that is really IFR flying as you easily lose what you visually think is the horizon. He was not IFR rated. That is what caused the crash.
I have flown at night over open water (Gulf of Mexico) with no moon. I flew it IFR even though it was VFR weather. This same thing can happen out West at night. There are few towns and they are just pinpricks of light and give one no reference to what is the horizon. Out West are hard objects in the night. They are called mountains.
When considering a flight into inclement weather if you are contemplating a “go no go decision” don’t go least your are certain of your skills, the weather, and your aircraft. Case in point, 44 years ago I spent two days in a motel in Junction, Texas before I was IFR rated. Low ceilings over the Hill Country. It was a definite, no go for my skills at the time.
its was just a ball of twisted metal...and the pilot was trapped in there somewhere...couldnt see a trace of him....ugh.
exact same plane Randy Rhoads, Ozzy guitarist, died in....
"Investigators point to quickly-changing wintry weather conditions that were not communicated to the inexperienced pilot as the cause of the crash that left such a tragic mark on music history."
Completely irrelevant. It is the responsibility of the Pilot-in-Command to learn everything pertinent to the safe execution of his flight, especially weather.
It's also a bit cynical to brand a pilot as "inexperienced" when he's already earned his commercial ticket.
... and Bob Hoover, Gabby Gabreski, Ilmari Juutilainen, Eric Brown, ....
Now? Same as it was back then. Here's the report: https://heavy.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/01/ntsbreport2.pdf
Horse puckey. What the hell do you think the FAA does for a living, hold bake sales?
The only stain on Beech's record (if you can call it that) was the Bonanza V-35, the forked-tail doctor killer. And there was nothing wrong with the V-35 except there were too many people buying them whose meager flying skills couldn't balance against their outsized wallets and egos.
And the three others were out in the snow
One went over the fence
Big Bopper I think
Due to the winter conditions, the field was like concrete. I read their autopsies and wish I didn’t. Just think of the results of a fall off a tall building for all of them.
Gravity: It’s not just a good idea, it’s the law.
