All dogs have hair, but not all dogs have brown hair.

Back to white tape ... I returned some other tape (not the black stuff) to the hardware store & bought some white - found a roll at Walmart where I didn’t feel like I was getting ripped off! I’ve used it on a couple of panels ... looks good, not quite as super sticky as the black stuff which is so sticky I can hardly get it off the roll.

Anyway, I made my SIL a dog “gate” for their porch - it is the same as my fence panels ... PVC frame with black mesh, just the size is different. I figured out a ‘slot’ on each side of the steps, attached to porch posts, and the gate slides back/forth between those slots. My SIL told me it’s one of the best presents she’s ever received (birthday).

I’m re-doing the gate with the wire, metal zips AND white tape! It will be much neater looking than what she’s got now. Also, since I don’t glue the PVC corners together, the frame tends to twist a bit with the mesh - it won’t do that with the wire.

The ‘slots’ were kept on the posts with extra-large zip ties. At the time, I did not want to put any screws into the posts or floor - the gate was put up when they were away so it was a surprise. I noticed last week, after years of zip ties & having them break, that my brother finally put in some screws so the slots are stable/sturdy. The new version of the gate with wire will do great in those slots.

I’ll post some pics when I get it done .... usually my bro is the one with all the great ideas so I’m pretty happy with this one - made my SIL really happy too. She had a new Collie pup & wanted a way to keep her on the porch and the “old man” dog as well. The old man just ‘bulled’ through any sort of stuff she tried to block the opening with (coolers propping up plywood, etc). The first time he encountered the gate, he tried 2 or 3 times to push through with no luck and gave up. We got a good laugh watching him give it a try & failing to get through - neither dog is a jumper so it’s low enough to get over without sliding it open if necessary. SIL is working today, so the plan is I’m going to re-do the gate while she’s gone & surprise her again.

Here are pics of the dog gate in the black plastic mesh & the gate in galvanized wire. The wire pic is with metal zips & taped (white). I didn't like it .... took off tape & metal zips & re-did it with white plastic zip ties (but didn't get that picture yet).

The old zips, when I took off the mesh were still in good shape. On the porch, they don't get sun, just cold & they weren't brittle at all. So I figured zips would be ok - the main thing is to get that messy black plastic mesh replaced. I'm happy with the way it turned out & so is my SIL :-)

Quiviut; You can slide the Gate/Fence back and forth! Nice design, nice gate! The white will look better. (Not a big dog is it?)

The dog before the Collie was a Corgi. He was cute as could be, quite the personality, and a terrible shedder. Due to the shedding, she decided not to get another Corgi ... so she got a Collie. As far as shedding issues go, she jumped out of the frying pan and into the fire! The Collie is a really good dog - we all love her, despite the hair.

Hippocrates and food

“Let food be thy medicine, and let medicine be thy food.” This famous quote is often attributed to Hippocrates. But, as research by Diana Cardenas in 2013 shows, this quote can not be found anywhere in Hippocrates' writings. Diana Cardenas discovered that the quote started to emerge from 1926 onwards, and really started to get popular in the 1970s. (More at link!!)

Smart! Easy enough for a kid to use, too. Now, if they’d just remember to CLOSE it, LOL!

The kids all have dogs of their own now. When they all show up with them, the porch becomes the dog playpen! Collie, Brittany, Beagle, Lab/Greyhound mix, rescue from an Indian Reservation (with their permission), & an Aussie Doodle. It’s a “zoo” & the gate contains them all!

So I cannot have a “King Chuck (roast)” on the hoof here on the place, unfortunately. What I do is visit Food Lion periodically & take advantage of their Manager’s Specials (sell by date coming up in a day or two). There are some really good deals to be had.

Today, I stopped by the closest Food Lion. Chuck Roast is on sale for $3.99/lb, but the case was empty. They did have Manager’s specials: 3 London broils for $3.89/lb & a 2 pound chuck roast for $2.39/lb. I bought them all.

Next stop was Tractor Supply to buy another roll of fence wire. There is a nearby Food Lion, so I stopped off there. No Manager’s Specials, but they did have plenty of the ‘on sale’ Chuck Roasts ... enough that I could pick through & get 4 really nice ones ... all 3 lbs or more, one close to 4 lbs.

My meat bill would have been $143.10; however, with the specials & sale, it was only $83.51, a saving of $59.59. I got myself a Cuban Roast coffee at WaWa to celebrate (first time in about a year I’ve gotten a coffee at WaWa - Cuban Roast is my favorite). All the meat is safely in the freezer - with the new 7 cu foot one, I have plenty of freezer space now, even if more venison is added - season doesn’t end until 1st weekend in January! :-)

Score! I’m excited to have the last two tomatoes ripe and ready to eat - a Celebrity and a Cherokee Purple. :)

I asked Beau to ask around the ‘neighborhood’ and see if anyone knows of anyone that has pork for sale. Turns out our neighbor that raises Angus Beef (that like to jump the fence and the result is someone like ‘Chuck,’ LOL!) also raises 24 hogs each season.

So, while it won’t happen until next Fall, we’re on the list for 1/2 a hog!

I could eat pork in it’s many forms, every day! :)

I am thoroughly enjoying my pork ... and all I’ve eaten is 5 lbs of ground pork thus far! :-)
