I remember a story out of WWII about knitted mittens.
It was an interview with a Jewish woman who had survived the Death Camps. Nazi soldiers didn’t have enough warm clothes, and were quite literally freezing their fingers off.
One day someone asked prisoners in the camp if any of them could knit. She stepped forward. They gave her needles so rough that they cut into her hands, but she was excused from “selection” as long as she kept making mittens.
So all day, every day, she knitted mittens, and that’s what saved her life.
Shipping was $6, so $2.88/skein - still cheap for bulky yarn. 3 colors, 3 skeins each.
So I decided to see if I could figure out how to do 2 at the same time, using magic loop (which I use on single mittens). I found a great video ... the secret is in the cast on. I got it all figured out & I'm knitting away ... 2 mitts at the same time! Boy, will this make mittens 'easier'! :-)

I’ve made two egg aprons, one for each of my great-nieces. Both got them when they were 2, so the aprons, even though child-size, almost came down to their knees, but they grew into them. I did my own thing with the band/ties and it turned out really well - not as stretchy.
That is really smart! Could you do the same thing with socks, I wonder?
I found this book at a Thrift Store the other day. $1.59 for HOURS of entertainment! I haven't made a Granny Square in years - did not know there were so may varieties. :)

Absolutely! Lots of videos out there for socks, 2 at a time.
I love book finds like that!! :-)
Socks are a neat idea, recycle!
Stopped into the local thrift store today as I made a drop off, found a beautiful muslin oval large tablecloth with roosters on the edge all around for a buck! Will probably cut it up and make some egg aprons for 4h prizes at next years fair. Found a big skein of cream colored yarn for 3.00 too. So I guess I have a project.
Sounds like you need to make a monthly run to the store
buy up some things. Keep the economy churning.
Actually after today I was thinking I need to say out of there. Last time I came close to buying a 1918 cabinet sewing machine that needed a little restoring complete with a box o attachments for 30.00. It was tough walking away!

I bought a box of ‘Mystery Yarn’ today, and I’ve bought 24 skeins of yarn in the past two weeks.
I’m doing my part! :)
My wife has a good stash here at the house. Unfortunately
it doesn’t produce any cash income. Storage containers line

It always amazes me how some of the simplest things can bring such happiness! I finished my “2att” mittens this morning. The feeling of having TWO finished, rather than just one & dreading the slog through mitt #2 ... well, I’ve been happy all morning. I’m also pretty happy that I taught myself something new. :-)
I have a couple of ‘balls’ (about 45-50 yds each) of yarn to use up & then I’ll be on to another lace knit baby blanket. I found one that is very sweet - an “eyelet” design AND it has a crochet border! I believe I have the yarn (or most of it) for it already, too. I love buying yarn, but hate spending the money, so using up my fairly extensive yarn stash is a bonus.

GORGEOUS weather - rain moved out this morning ... 2.5 inches in the rain gauge. The grass is really high in the yard, but I’ll have to wait a day or so (good weather through the weekend) to avoid tearing up the soft ground with the big wheels on Clyde ... when I do those ‘zero’ turns, the wheels rip up the ground if it’s soft. This means I think I’ll start another 2att mitts this morning ... sitting on the porch swing in the fall weather, watching the hummers ... we still have a few, but I think a lot have migrated over the last week. I’m missing them already.
