I once did some consulting work for a manufacturing company that had the lowest accident rate I had ever seen.I discovered the reason: the CEO had friendly conversations with everyone and knew every employee by name,all of their children’s names and their wives. Everybody was family.

I know a few corporations require their senior staff to work as line workers for anywhere from a week to two weeks out of the year at franchises out of their work area. They are specifically instructed to follow all managerial directions, and their main task is to ensure not just the company directives and policies are carried out, particularly with regard to customer satisfaction, but also that employees are “reasonably happy” in their tasks.

This is the best way, frankly, for corporations to act, and should be required for every manager in my opinion.
